Link was using a spear in the trailer. Please let there be other weapons for the weapon slot besides the Master Sword. I'm sick and tired of the Master Sword being the final weapon and not being able to equip anything else (Biggoron Sword doesn't count).

Actually, you can! They're streaming lots of gameplay! It's really amazing!

To stream.

The minecraft like dungeon design just ruined it for me. I'm done. This game isn't for me.

Well don't be too hasty. I'm not yet convinced these are the actual dungeons of the game.

EDIT: "Yes, there are dungeons in the sense that Zelda fans are used to." So there you go.

Fine to hear. But this game just overall bleeds "trying too hard to be everything else" kind of vibe for me. I already went into this with low expectations. :P Unfortuantely nothing I've seen so far here has redeemed those expectations. You can say I've officially lost interest at this point.

But that's fine because that's just my own personal tastes we are talking here. It's just not the game for me. Sorry to be a downer. :P

It's unfortunate you feel that way NJF. I'm going to reserve further judgement until we get more information or until the game comes out, but for now, I am very excited to see this bold new step for the Zelda franchise.

Well, that pretty much confirms it right there; this game is indeed island survival with Link.  Tomb Raider 2014, the Link edition.  So it'll probably be a good game that's geared around exploration, which is fine, but damn if it doesn't feel like Zelda with everything else, lol.  Makes me think of the Zelda mod for Skyrim too.

They have said many times that they're trying to re-imagine the conventions of Zelda, so it shouldn't be that surprising.

Well yeah I'm aware of that.  I guess it's just the kind of changes they made and the way they applied them that makes it feel like it belongs to another series.  Like the whole Hunger concept, that's something that I feel like should never have left the permadeath dungeon crawler and Sims spheres, lol.  From all the instances I've played with it like several non permadeath dungeon crawlers such as Torneko's Dungeon, Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon, and Minecraft to name a few, it rarely actually adds layers of depth to the game, and instead just serves as a constant minor but frustrating inconvenience to the player and just makes you have to have 2 or 3 slots of inventory constantly taken up by food.  If there's a weight and encumberance system on top of that, like Super Hydlide, the frustration continues since you're in a constant battle between staying fed and bag weight limits.

So far, the game looks amazing. I can't even see the "trying too hard to be everything else". It feels like Wind Waker, only bigger. Not sure about the actual dungeon count, but apparently, there are over 100 shrines (or the "minecraft-like dungeons" NJF was talking about) in the game, and the Dungeons are bound to be great. The food crafting system looks interesting, and being able to temporarily boost your max health or get a resistance to cold seems really neat. The animations are really smooth and charming. Finally, it appears that Ganon is the main villain again. I'm rather glad he is, thre hasn't been much of a focus on him since Twilight Princess, a decade ago.

I much prefer stylized graphics over super realistic graphics that will age like shit (like Twilight Princess graphics). So i'm quite glad the game has stylized graphics.

I should have replied to this earlier.

For me, it's not about "realistic graphics" over stylized graphics. You can have stylized graphics that could have done much better than this.

The grass looks painted on in most places. The rocks and mountains look as if they were a mold or a form of play-dough rather than rocks. Even the dirt feels flat and lifeless. I'm okay for stylized graphics, however the graphics here feel lazy and cheap and shouts underpowered. This is where my criticism stands with this game. It's not about changing the style, but demonstrating the best from the style, which I feel they have failed here unfortunately.

It feels empty and cheap to me, but more importantly very outdated.

Also, on the topic of stylized. The overworld in fact does not look stylized at all. Only the character Link, the NPCs, and enemies and certain fire effects and such appear stylized. The world however feels almost 15 years ago. You can't excuse poor graphics for stylized here.

I just watched the trailer. It doesn't look too bad actually.

I guess the gameplay I've been seeing at E3 just hasn't been impressing me.

Well, when you play a larger library of games that aren't Zelda, and then see what sort of mechanics they're putting into this one, it becomes more obvious.

So far, Zelda has been about exploration and secrets mostly for a few games, story and combat for another set of games, and the dungeons, puzzles and items for the rest of the games.

Then you get this new one that's putting a higher emphasis on survival (notice that wasn't listed before, because it wasn't a driving point.  Having Hit Points alone doesn't equate to the survival genre; however having a Hunger system on top of it does equate to survival, or if you were one of the only surviving entities against a bigger entity like Resident Evil).  This shift alone is completely different than previous Zeldas, but add on top of it the larger emphasis on exploration and combat, and what seems to be a smaller emphasis on everything else, and it feels just like Skyrim or Tomb Raider 2014
