Crowno is probably the one you're thinking of. He's one of the lead artists that helped make the latter half of Terraria's artistic development. He wears that cool vulture mask thing. If he drew himself in, I wouldn't be surprised. Keep in mind, he has his own developer gear. Mask, wings, etc.

I believe all the devs have their own items put in (and only they cam use them, otherwise bad stuff happens to the user)

2/3 of the 1.3 Update Change Log.


EDIT: I am trying to decide whether to start a new world in normal or Expert mode. I'm giving serious (As in, more than 80%) consideration toward Expert mode.

Let's take a look. (Spoiler alert, directly from the change log.)

- Expert mode can now be toggled in the World Creation Menu. This will trigger a host of changes, all designed to provide a greater challenge with the promise of greater rewards. Some of those challenges are listed below:
- You stay dead longer before being able to respawn during boss fights.
- Boss health scales in multiplayer depending on the number of players.
- Weaker enemies gain increased stats as the players progress, starting in hardmode.
- You drop 75% of your gold upon death.
- Enemies can pick up your gold when you die and attempt to run off with it. Kill them to retrieve your loot.
- Monsters have a small chance to spawn in towns.
- Some normal enemies have been given new AI.
- Bosses have been given new AI.
- Bosses will drop Treasure Bags containing powerful expert exclusive items to reward those up to the challenge.
- Pots now drop more stuff when broken.
- Ice Monsters gain an additional chance to freeze upon hitting the player.
- Quest rewards give more money.
- Bats have a chance to give the new Feral Bite debuff. This debuff will increase player damage but lower player health regen. This debuff will also cause other random debuffs to be applied to the player
- Life Regen isn’t as effective unless the player has the Well Fed buff.
- Vampire and Spectre healing is slightly less effective than in normal mode.
- The Defense statistic is more effective than in normal mode.

I'm toying with the idea mostly because I already know how to tackle the pre 1.3 challenges, and if there's something new that will be harder, I'd love to have a far more different experience first, then gain all the strategy and tactical prowess on the first run, then apply that to all subsequent (potentially easier normal mode) worlds. The treasure bag is also a large incentive.

I usually completely wall up my town anyway, so I'm still not that worried about enemies appearing in town; only around it. Chaos Goblins still manage to find their way in regardless though. Never did like that.

My friend and I will be starting on Expert Mode.  Who could say no to some of those things?  Will not only reduce grind time, but should also reduce the number of enemies that do nothing but jump at you and walk into you.  Seriously, why is touch damage still even a thing?

SPOILERS!

• Eater of Worlds has been buffed noticeably in Expert Mode. It is able to snake you more readily and its head segment hits hard. Still, the nerfed Molotov cocktails
• Eater of Worlds drops the Worm Scarf in Expert Mode, which reduces damage taken by 17%.
• There is a Demonite Yo-Yo.
• If you jump into water in the Snow Biome in Expert Mode, you become chilled for 10 second.
• Antlions appear as fighter enemies in the Underground Desert, as well as some type of giant mosquito-thing
• Desert Fossils appear to be common blocks in the Underground Desert, which can be used in an Extractionator to sometimes produce Sturdy Fossils, which are used in crafting a new set of armor that specializes in throwing weapons.
• Throwing Damage appears to be a new class.
• Traveling Merchant now sells a Stopwatch, which shows how fast the player is going.
• Expert Mode Skeletron hits much harder, inflicts Bleeding (via hands) and Slowness (via head). You must also attack his hands before his head.
• Blood Moons introduce unique enemies. Dripplers hover and drop Sharktooth Necklaces upon death which allows you to ignore 5 Defense on enemies.  There are also Blood Zombies.
• The Shield as shown in the final trailer that looked like a Demon Eye is the Shield of Chuthlu, dropped from Expert Mode Eye of Chuthlu which acts like the Tabi, but the dash inflicts damage.
• The Expert Mode Brain of Chuthlu starts producing illusions of itself in its second phase, making it harder for you to hit it. On addition, it drops the Wraith of Chuthlu; which may inflict confusion on enemies when you are hit by an attack.
• In Expert Mode, Spiked Jungle Slimes now have a move where they scatter a burst of spikes at you.
• Expert Mode Queen Bee now drops a Hive Pack, which buffs up the power of friendly bees.

Played the new version, but didn't do much other than glance over Expert Mode and play with some Yo-Yos. It seems like a good weapon for early game, but I'm not entirely sure. I also played around with the Yoyo Bag item and made myself a Chix and a Meteor Staff. Also, I was really shocked to see on my cheat character (I keep one around for experimenting with things) that my S.D.M.G got a MASSIVE buff. However, I do have some problems with the new version. For one, with certain lighting settings, I get a glitchy mess around light sources that looks like black toothy boxes. Also, I seem to have a lot more difficulty running the game now, although I have it workable.

 

I'll probably do an honest Expert Mode world soon enough. I'm expecting to die a lot. All I've done was go through one with an end-game tier 1.2.4 character, so I was heavily OP'ed.

So far, Expert Mode has been a pain in the ass, but we have found some interesting new items.  I don't think this is too much of a spoiler, so I'm going to say this outright:

 

FUCK the Medusas.  Like really, you don't even need to be on the same vertical plane as them, or line of sight, for them to turn you into stone.   We've died so many times from these things.
