Yeah... I think I take back what I said about the Gym Leaders being dumbed down... I remember Morty Williams as a pushover in the original Silver, and now, I had to train Quilava up to level 31 so I could beat him. Is it just me, or did they drastically raise the damage level of Shadow Ball? icon_eek.gif
They didn't change the damage, but Shadow Ball is now a special move instead of a physical move (as all Ghost moves were). Gengar has a lacking Attack stat, but a phenomenal Special Attack... so yeah, it's gonna do a lot more damage. Fortunately Batman knew Bite, and the Gastly family has a pretty low defense stat. Houndoom helped too. icon_heh.gif

Still grinding for Clair. icon_frown.gif Meganium can deal with Kingdra, but the fact that Calir uses a Full Restore and Hyper Potion means I have to effectively KO two of her Pokemon twice.

But on the bright side, I have a shiny Zubat now! icon_biggrin.gif

I HATE Miltank!! Not because it was a difficult battle against Whitney, but because it was so annoying! Milk drink, milk drink, milk drink! Super potion, super potion! GAH!

Ha. I just went against Miltank too. I think it's even more annoying this time from what i remember in the originals. All it used was Stomp, Milkdrink, and then Rollout and then the super potions came icon_glare.gif
QUOTE(Russ @ Mar 16 2010, 05:55 PM) View Post
I. Hate. Miltank. The longest Pokemon battle I've ever had was against a cow. 45 minutes, nonstop. By the end, it was paralyzed, has it's attack and defense as low as they can go (charm and leer), and could barely hit me (sand attack and smoke screen). Yet, it kept using milk drink and, because three out of four of the Pokemon on my team are male, kept using attract, forcing me to constantly switch out. Dang that thing was annoying.
... Wow. Just plain wow. I either extremely lucked out or had a great strategy, cuz I felt this was the easiest time I ever had against Whitney, including all my playthroughs of the original G/S/C. icon_eek.gif

It did knock out my Bellsprout, but I revived it (after using Pidgeotto's Sand-Attack and Quilava's Leer on it multiple times) and switched it out for Bellsprout, to put it to sleep, then used Cut till I defeated it. And it didn't even use Rollout that much. Weird. And Whitney didn't use a single Super Potion, nor did the Miltank ever use Milk Drink. O_o

And yes, I did catch the Sudowoodo. I know I said I typically only catch Pokémon I'll know I'll use, but I never pass up on the one-time-only guys. icon_razz.gif

Do what I did in Silver: Catch Lugia and teach it Icy Wind. icon_deformed.gif

Okay, so that depends on several factors: Whether or not you have SoulSilver, and whether or not Pryce still gives you Icy Wind when you beat him. If he does, and you have SoulSilver, do this method. Or just catch a Swinub and grind it up, since Ice-types are strong against Dragons.

I'm at Goldenrod City and got the Plain Badge. I was lucky to score a critical on her Miltank by using Heracross's Brick Break.

My Current Party

* Bayleef (Lv. 21)
* Poliwag (Lv. 20)
* Zubat (Lv. 21)
* Heracross (Lv. 21)
* Growlithe (Lv. 14) - LEVELING UP
* Eevee (Lv. 5) - LEVELING UP for Espeon

After defeating Morty, I'm training my entire Party to Level 25.

BAH!! This sucks, it's been "Out for Delivery" since 6AM... It's 5:10PM now... Plus I have a meeting at 6:45PM, so I may end up having to wait until tomorrow to play it after I get it. icon_frown.gif Sucky...

Edit: Even worse now... It just arrived, and I have to head out the door. icon_frown.gif Talk about suckage...

Look on the bright side. Now you have something to look forward to when you get back.

Now that Whitney's beaten, I'm going to catch a Scyther from the Bug Catching Contest, then try out the Pokeathalon. Sure looks fun.

Well, you'll enjoy this game, as I am =). I'm just suprised at how I have to actually level grind this time 'round; I've always been able to zoom through Pokemon games, but this one is priving to be a challenge icon_smile.gif. Let's see what's ahead shall we? And how the hell did you get to Clair so fast Ebola!? That's madness!

I tried the Pokeathalon....it's fun, but hard as hell without a stylus @.@!

Hey, maybe he's played it nonstop since he got it. It's possible. Varying levels of nerdiness. Not to say that Eb's a nerd, which me most certainly is. The biggest of all time. ERR I MEAN

William the Conqueror defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings. At least, I assume that's what your referring to.

Yepper. Surprised you nailed that one. Not many would have. Then again, not many people seriously studied Latin, either. My choice of "Henry", then, must be equally transparent? ^-^

You know, they seem to improve many things in each generation of Pokemon, but one thing it sounds like from the posts I've read is that the AI effectiveness still varies WILDLY. Personally, I always imagined AI in a Pokemon game with a somewhat tiered structure, in terms of sophistication-

Wild Pokemon- Use moves entirely at random, with each move given equal weight.

Trainers- Same, except all moves are not weighted equally, resulting in "favorites".

Gym Leaders- Partial AI (They have a strategy for every one of their Pokemon, but seldom vary it to fit the moment . Will occasionally strategically switch out Pokemon).

Elite 4/Champion (Red-Lance)/Rival- Full AI (that is, they are programmed with multiple strategies for each of their Pokemon, changing between them to gain an advantage. Uses items and switches Pokemon fairly well).

Note that I know very little about programming in general, somewhere between the basics and utter ignorance. I'm not sure that last AI is possible with DS hardware resources. I still think this would be better than what they have now, which appears to be a hodgepodge of characteristics from the first three levels of AI.

But I'm also nerdy with RPG's....but 'cause of school I couldn't play it all day, except on the weekends..CURSE YOU SCHOOL YEAR! Luckily I graduate this year....3 months left! As for this, now that I can use Surf, it's exploration time. Starting with the Union Cave. I want to solve those last Stone Panel things. Any of you caught all the Unown types yet?

You can't get either until after you receive the 8th badge if I'm not mistaken.

Either way, that seems to be a cheap way out. Just raise your guys until you can beat away at the Kingdra til it's down. It put up a good fight, but after three others before her, DavidBowie the Kangaskhan took it down.

Sunflora & Pigeot are annoying. Everyone else on my team can stand on their own two feet and take on pokemon they don't have an advantage against; not these two. Their stats are fine (well, average, but they aren't terrible) but their moveset just won't give me anything to work with. Sigh. Octillery and Glaceon are proving to be amazing choices though. If you're still lookin for a water type, may I highly suggest this four legged octopus.

Huh? Did they change it? In the original, all you needed was the Silver Wing, which you got in Silver when you cleared the Radio Tower.

Yes, they changed it. You now need the Kimono Girls' help too, and too get them to help, you need to beat all eight gyms.

No seriously, what do I do now? Uber-extreme-grind to level up my Pokémon? Well, I wonder if Gyarados can learn Icy Wind...

Most people complain about new games/remakes being easier. Your the first I've heard complain that they made them harder. icon_razz.gif
