This might be a silly name, but after hearing background information about your rival from Serebii.net, I decided to call my rival "Van", which is from :SPOILERS: the name Gio"van"ni. Because he's his son.
My relatives all gave my rival funny names.

I named him Karn. I think there may be a town in FF called Karn, but I just thought it fit him pretty well; and that name reminds me of red, so it fits together pretty well.
BTW, I LOVE THIS GAME!!

Hey guys, what did you call your rival?
**** head in memory of my childhood.
Also, Glaceon just tore right through Claires gym's dragon types, and when it came to Kingdra, DavidBowie the Kangskhan proved to be a fair match.

Anyways, I think they did dumb down the gyms. Whitney was comparatively easy this time around, but then again, it didn't use Rollout that much.
I think it did help that I brought out Pidgeotto and Sand-Attacked it several times, and then Leered it with Quilava, then put it to sleep with Bellsprout (who evolved right after the battle). I just encountered the dogs for the first time and I'm ready for MORTY WILLIAMS! GET HIM!! [/Phineas and Ferb reference]
- Lv. 23 Quilava
- Lv. 22 Geodude
- Lv. 21 Pidgeotto
- Lv. 21 Weepinbell

<hidden>He's his son, hm? I thought Gary was his son... does he have two sons?</hidden>
WOOOSH. Gary is Oak's grandson...That would have made Giovanni Oak's son, which just doesn't work. And it's been confirmed many times that Silver (The "Official" name of the rival) is the son of Giovanni, with the mother being unknown. UNWOOSH.
I named my rival Pierce. No idea why. I just thought it sounded cool. Which, by the way, doesn't fit as well as I remembered. Unless it's just me, the rival is more whiny and kid-like than he was in the originals.
EDIT:
I had to train before fighting Morty, and I ran into Entei and Raikou 4 times each...They're not nearly as hard to find as they used to be for some reason...lol

Nay, they made them harder, though this is Pokemon we're talking about. These games have never been and will never be difficult, espiecially to us who've played all the versions over the year and know EXACTLY how to break the game. It's partially the luck of the draw though. Sometimes the AI just goes in for the kill, sometimes they decide to use Double Team seven times.
Ho-Oh acquired. Elite Four challenged. On Bruno... as per usual I'm going in with 4 revives, 12 full restores, and near to no intention on using them all. Maybe I could beat them, but this is merely the test run. Can't wait to face Lance with half alive pokemans.

Well, right now, I'm in the process of catching a water Pokémon simply for the purpose of using Surf. Then I gotta take care of the Olivine lighthouse situation and muy level up Pidgeotto and Weepinbell; that is, if Chuck's still got that freakin' Poliwhirl with the Dynamic Punch.

Also, it was interesting when I had to vacate the house today cuz it was being shown, so I went with my mom to pick up my niece and my sis, and I had the Pokéwalker in my pocket while I was walking, but no Pokémon was in it. I thought about it, so I took it out to put Togepi in it just for the heck of it, and an Oddish had randomly joined me in the Pokéwalker. It was cool, because I knew I would have to catch one later, anyway, so I could get the Leaf Stone from Bill's Grandpa, so that makes things easier on me.

Mac. Jr. -> Machop Lv. 25 (Male) (Raised from Egg)
Tody -> Totodile Lv. 27 (Male) [Not evolving him]
Cat -> Butterfree Lv. 23 (Male)
Pido -> Pidgeotto Lv. 25 (Male)
Geo -> Geodude Lv. 23 (Male)
Scary -> Gastly Lv. 23 (Male)
For some reason, like 75% of the wild pokemon I fight are male, but it doesn't matter to me, cause I only need females for breeding. By the way I have a spare Machop egg, so if anyone wants it, let me know and I'll reserve it for you until my wireless comes back up.
I'm hating how the pokedex no longer tell you where Suicune, Entei, and Raikou are after you encounter them the first time >.<.

Just caught my first Sudowoodo though. Me team looks like this:
Flaaffy (Alice) level 22
Pidgeotto (Tweedledee) level 22
Quilava (Mad Hatter) level 23
Togepi (Wht Rabbit) level 14
Oddish (TAKEITHARD) level 5 --> (HM whore)
And yeah. Still working on it. May replace Togepi, if I don't feel like raising it anymore and come across something more awesome. I do still need a water Pokemon...

Well, I named my rival Antonio, following NOA's lead with localizing Giovanni (since he is that character's son). As for myself....The name's Henry, mirroring the main character of my FireRed, who was William and had a rival named Harold. Props for whoever gets the significance of THAT little triad.
William the Conqueror defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings. At least, I assume that's what your referring to.
I. Hate. Miltank. The longest Pokemon battle I've ever had was against a cow. 45 minutes, nonstop. By the end, it was paralyzed, has it's attack and defense as low as they can go (charm and leer), and could barely hit me (sand attack and smoke screen). Yet, it kept using milk drink and, because three out of four of the Pokemon on my team are male, kept using attract, forcing me to constantly switch out. Dang that thing was annoying.
