Maybe I saw one bundled with a game or they were all just overpriced on Amazon,
I dunno, just kill me?

Also it finally happened: I dreamed I had a Switch.
This is gonna be a long short month.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that people are complaining about the $300 price of the Switch when that's how much a 3DS XL goes for? One of these things is a little more powerful...
(edit: looked at the price just now and found it for $200, but last time I looked it was $300)
Yeah, I've found myself wondering about this as well. Over here in Norway people are complaining about the price as well, but 300 seems like fairly approachable in terms of what electronics usually costs these days. People have compared the price to those of the PS4 and Xbox One as well, but there has already been several iterations of those consoles, not to mention multiple price drops. They were not less than 300 bucks at launch. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I can't remember the last new console I bought that was priced at anything less than 300. I think maybe the Gameboy Color was cheaper, but that's not what I would call a comparable situation. ![]()

It has a better battery life than the Switch.
*can't run because is shot so suddenly*
But seriously this is going to be one of the longest months of my life.
Been watching the Mario and Zelda trailers pretty much at least once a day.

I do think $250 would be a lot easier to sell people, but I don't think $300 is unreasonable at all. It would have been nice had they packaged in 1-2 Switch because I don't think that game is worth $50, and I think that being bundled in would end up helping sell the system, but it is what it is. ![]()

Can't agree enough about 1-2-Switch. I won't lie, even if it did come packaged in, I'm not sure I'd ever play it to begin with, but it certainly would be good to have such a wacky thing on hand for other people who are more likely to play it, even as a quick two-player game until more games come out.
And it doesn't look anywhere near worth $50... It's a bunch of random, simple party games that barely have graphics. It's like a more generic WarioWare.

It's funny because both the PS1 and PS2 were $300 but I guess since the internet wasn't a thing for the former and wasn't huge at the time for the latter, nobody bitched about that. Adjusted for inflation, the NES and SNES at $200 back in their days were technically more expensive, also. I'll admit some of the accessories are... raaaaather expensive, particularly the Pro Controller, but honestly apart from that, I really just don't get it. It's $50 more than a system that came out 10 years ago that was significantly less powerful.
Also yep, February, simultaneously the shortest month of the year and the longest month of THIS year.

The vocal minority didn't have a platform. I'm sure plenty of people bitched.

A thought that came up was that Nintendo ought to have made a Wii Sports sequel/successor to have with the Switch. There you have a built-in party game with a proven pedigree, though it would need some tweaks I think. For one, naming it "Wii Sports" would probably be a mistake and confuse people. For another, since they seem to be focusing less on Miis (maybe not and it's just a faulty impression), they might need to tweak characters as well.
Either way, it probably would have been more enticing than 1-2-Switch.

Nothing wrong with calling it, "Mii Sports."

That... could have possibly worked.

Well, while I have definitely seem a decent amount of people flat out bitching about the price and saying that it's way too pricey to be worth it, a decent amount of the concerns aren't really on a personal level. Like, I don't think $300 is a bad price for me personally, and I don't mind it. However, I feel that it would have been easier to sell to the mass public at a cheaper price or with 1-2 Switch bundled in. Or maybe they could bundle in some VC games.
When it comes to 1-2 Switch, I actually do think it looks like a decent amount of fun, and I think it'll probably be somewhat successful. However, I just think it's too pricey, and I think it's a bit unfortunate that only 2 people can play at a time. I'd personally prefer something that would entertain more people at once.

Or just call it "Sports" with the capital using the same font/formatting as the S in the Switch logo.

That's true, Nintendo has a long standing history of having at least one pack-in. I still have a sealed copy of Nintendo Land that came with the Wii U. It might be worth something in 10 more years. But probably not.

Arlo mentions the price in one of his newer videos. He has a really good point about the Joy-Cons having all of this new fancy tech that buffs up the price. He expresses concerns over whether or not that would be worth it in the long run, if there isn't a good first impression of said tech.. or something to that effect. The added tech is nice, but I'm not interested in games where you move your hand in front of an IR sensor. No, I'm more interested and games like Mario, and Zelda. I think Nintendo finally understands that this is the general consensus. I believe Nintendo will find that balance (and has already, to a degree), and this looks to be one of the most amazing launches ever. I'm watching the Super Bowl tomorrow just for the Switch commercial (and Lady Gaga, but let's not talk about that.)
Speaking of inflation, and console prices though, this chart is very interesting. It is from 2013, but it's still pretty accurate, I'd think.
Okay, Neo Geo, and 3DO need to calm tf down.

I've seen that graph before, and I can only wonder... if two-hundred 1977 dollars are equivalent to 768 2013 dollars, does that mean the Atari was incredibly overpriced back then? Feels like it must have been, to have one of those groovy video game machines available for home console usage.
