So that map has a pretty glaring perspective issue. Water flows out of the lake, down a waterfall, and into that exact same lake again. That makes absolutely no sense; there can't be waterfalls if there's no change in elevation.

That looks very good for a first go at ZQuest, epy.  I look forward to seeing more from you. :)

Cropping this in paint did illicit deeds upon the colours, but here is something that I've been working on:

It does make sense if you belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve! But yeah agreed lol

Anyways:

@epy: The change looks much better, now there won't be any perspective issues with the lakes and the waterfall (hopefully), and also it really has a nice classic feel to it!

@Geoffrey: That looks really awesome! For some reason I'm thinking about Lower Norfair when I look at that... am I supposed to be thinking about that? XD

Whelp, here is the map of my first quest ever made. Bland, uninspired and boring, but it's worth a good laugh in retrospect. It seems sad, but looking back, the only decent section is the normal colored overworld around the game's start (right above the area with the shield shaped tile formation). Everything else just looks like crap. Not to mention the eastern dock is the longest raft ride ever and leads to the laziest part of the map; the icy mountains. The graveyard area is just too empty and the ruins north of it? Not much better. But hey, at least you get a wallet upgrade, at least 170 Rupees, an empty bottle and a shop that sells the Blue Ring, Magic Boomerang and Magic Shield as well as a potion shop. Also note that fairy fountain is the ONLY one in the entire overworld. Yeah, I thought that out nicely, didn't I? (sarcasm)

If there is enough support, I may show off the overworld of one quest that I had 70% completed that I think may look much better than this joke.

Hey well, it is still way better than Legend of Link's overworld :P

And at least there isn't 10+ screens of a blank ocean, because THAT was pretty bad.

Anyway, just a little sneak peak of my secret project:

Took me some time to realise that the map design is the same as 3-5 from Randomiser lol. I guess I should've realised before making the dungeon.

@RedMageAdam: You had some interesting concepts going for being a noob at that time designing that map. Looks like something I'd wanna see refined and put to use

@Eddy: Interesting. I can't tell if there is a theme to the dungeon as it's pretty standard, and well rounded I like it. Does that turn spin thing actually work???

The theme is mostly "water". And the Spinner does work, but I used "Stair" warps on each side to make you think you're going in a circle.

Clever to use the ZC editor before going into script.

Thanks for the positive reception on the map I posted yesterday. Here is the nearly finished map of an abandoned project called "Link's Adventure X", or a quest with a really stupid name. Anyway, real brief story. Link's Adventure X, or LAX as I call it, was meant to be a die-hard NES style quest meant to be a bit above 2nd quest difficulty. And yes, that includes the "continue with 3 hearts" trope most people dislike for adding false difficulty. But seriously, compared to Adam's Quest, it is generally more balanced. Levels 1-6 were finished and level 7 had its first 4 rooms finished. The game was meant to be like an old school quest with lots of exploration and few ZC 1.90/1.92 enemies until the later levels and even then used sparingly. Although having a Stalfos 3 in the overworld guarding a Heart Container cave when he can kill you in one hit is a bit unfair.

Dungeon shapes/theme:

Level 1- Real basic dungeon to set the mood, map kind of looks like a toilet

Level 2- Longer but still fairly easy dungeon, map looks like a rock

Level 3- Short but fairly hard dungeon with a bit of backtracking, looks like a key

Level 4- Symmetrical both horizontally and vertically, long and tough, looks like a bunch of blocks

Level 5- Supposed to look like a stick figure, has a secret with the Blue Ring hidden in it (or you can spend 250 Rupees a bit later to buy the Blue Ring if you don't find that secret)

Level 6- Has FOUR entrances and you must go to each one to complete the dungeon. Short, but is made longer by tearing up the overworld looking for the entrances and going through them in the right order. Map looks like a smiley face.

Level 7- Map looks like a helmet, but very little was planned as I gave up on the project at this time.

Level 8- Would have been a 1.92 style side-scrolling tower in the SE ocean (Flippers being in level 7).

Level 9- God knows what, located behind the white rock you need a Super Bomb for.

Looks more interesting than AQI, but I find it really weird to have dark "rooms" in the mountain.

Either way, Level 6 sounds interesting :P

Progress report of my expanded map back on page 33...

8bibthhjdqj88cbfg.jpg

I have a lot more area covered. Those two random screens are the maze path and entrance to level 6. I just haven't made any screens yet to connect them. Also, two off-topic questions:

1. Why does ZQuest bug out sometimes when I quit it and force me to use Task Manager?

2. Why do my screenshots have a larger file size AFTER editing them? I notice just adding a small edit in MSPaint will more than double the file size most of the time.

This song plays in my head when looking at your map, I like it

I recommend adding the giant trees to your main forest border, it would look neater and maybe a slightly tad bit more of ground detail and its would be ever so perfect, but thats just me.

I have to use task manager too man... dunno. I just got used to it lol.

As for MS paint, its just derp. No explanation needed further?

Thanks Astro! I would use that song, but it's cliche as hell. I have been trying to pick music from obscure games. For instance, here's a link to the music I use for the Forest of Serenity: https://www.youtube....?v=XM521LLNHvA.

I swear the MIDI is much better though. Look up Mega Man Soccer on VGMusic and look for T_RockManSoccer_WoodMan.mid. I tried linking but it gave a 403 error. It's the first Wood Field entry.

Anyway, since I'm posting old maps just for the sake of posting them and possibly using them in a project that WON'T end up abandoned, here are levels 1 through 6 of Link's Adventure X:

http://www.mediafire...jzm3bh7ebfg.jpg - Level 1 (pretty much your basic newbie dungeon, 23 rooms)

http://www.mediafire...b8xljq179fg.jpg - Level 2 (standard Red/Blue Goriya dungeon, a bit too large IMO clocking in at 33 rooms large)

http://www.mediafire...84q2px5aafg.jpg - Level 3 (intro to Blue Darknuts in small numbers, 20 rooms)

http://www.mediafire...pqagbd44afg.jpg - Level 4 (is revamped for Adam no Bouken Tsu, has 40 rooms)

http://www.mediafire...h5ibhyih5fg.jpg - Level 5 (the lock seeming to lead to nowhere goes to the room south of it, has 32 rooms total)

http://www.mediafire...v0epv5eo2fg.jpg - Level 6 (has four different sections, 20 rooms total)

Some really interesting maps here. My personal favourite is probably Level 6. Having multiple entrances to a dungeon is a pretty cool idea. Level 2's size seems fine IMO, it's not too big or too small.

But yeah, those are some pretty nice classic-style dungeons.
