PM sent Ben icon_wink.gif

And how do you guys feel about the new shield system? I personally love it!

Yesterday, I was playing TP in that cave by the tower at Lake Hylia. Eery other chest was a 20, 50, or 100 rupee!! I could only hold 300 at the time, because I'm only at the Lakebed Temple atm. It's still crazy!!
I hope it's fixed in SS!!!

Well, the problem the Zelda series has is that there is waaaaaaay too much money and not enough to spend it on. I, for one, welcome our new shield shattering system, with open arms.

I bet the Wooden Shield will be 50, Iron 100, and Hylian 200-250 respectively icon_smile.gif
I hard the Hylian Shield can break only by magic, or something. I hope maybe by lava. Because it's no fun having an invincible shield like in TP! XD

SS fans should not read this. This made me very mad.
What kind of critic is this? Seriously? It seems like the critic dislikes almost all the beautiful points of this game. I mean of course, I can't change what he wants to say but five whole paragraphs of negativity?

Also I like the idea of the slingshot being a fast shooting weapon but delivers minor damage and the bow being a slow shooting weapon but delivers major damage.

Also I like the idea of 8 items but they get constantly upgraded throughout the game.

Also I heard that you have to make your shield with materials you collect throughout the game. I forgotten the source of where I heard this however.

I heard about the shield upgrade system too. I'm pretty sure that it's true and has been confirmed.

Anyways, I, like you, am a fan of both of those ideas. The Zelda series, in my opinion, has way too many items in each game; my own quest only uses eight items, not including the sword or the equipment items, like the flippers or shields.

I also like what they did with the slingshot/bow and arrows; it gives you some options as to how to tackle different enemies. In this regard (enemy figting), the more options the better.

Only 8 items can work. I can think of at least one example of a Zelda game that did well with a small item count. Namely Phantom Hourglass. Simplicity in an epic world can actually be more enjoyable; challenge you to use those few items you have in new and creative ways.

I read that review. Other than the definition of the game, the complaints seem somewhat valid. Of course, maybe he just had a badly-calibrated remote, or a bad area that messed up communication. And for the flying, well, we'll see. I was never a fan of "point to aim" controls for movement anyway. They'll probably get hammered out though. As for making your own shield with collected items... Zelda's starting to sound like it's really headed to the next level. I'm just getting more excited, but I need to check myself, lest this becomes a repeat of how I hyped up TP so badly that I was disappointed after it was released...

... I'm getting a sense of deja vu here.

I can relate. I thought TP would be a next-gen game. What it turned out to be was a large step forward for Zelda,
I could make a huge list of all the expansions and refinements it introduced to the world of 3D Zelda, that were
desperately needed, the previous 3D Zelda wasn't too far removed from the N64 type of game design except
for the graphics, controls, and plot.

However, TP fell short of what the trailer seemed to offer, (a huge in-depth world with tons of exploration and
endless sidequests).

Looking back on TP, I can put this all into perspective. Zelda games aren't going to get longer, and aren't going
to try to achieve that massive overworld that some RPG titles deliver. The next Zelda will be a lot like the last
one in terms of size and complexity, but will have new innovations that make the game play differently from
previous games in the series. And if I expect more than that I am setting myself up for disappointment.

So hey, strangely, no one mentioned the release date announcement in this thread yet! icon_smile.gif

So, Nintendo has finally gotten around to announce the release date for Skyward Sword. For all of us Americans, it's November 20. You lucky Europeans get it two days earlier, on the 18th. Exciting stuff, this is. It means we only have three months to wait.

icon_wink.gif

Anyways, I'm kinda disappointed that they're not doing a simultaneous release, because it means that I have to avoid all gaming-related websites on the internet for a couple of days to avoid the massive spoilers that people leave unmarked. Or at least a few days earlier than normal.

And about only using eight items. It would work well, but only if they use the right items. So far, it doesn't look like they are. Mostly because they are using both the (horrendously useless) slingshot, and the bow. Please, just give us one or the other. Plus, it looks like the beetle is replacing the boomerang, as they serve similar functions, with the boomerang being one of my absolute favorite items. Oh well. They better have some damn good items left. icon_unsettled.gif

Every Zelda game (that isn't Zelda 2) is guaranteed the boomerang (other than MM), bow, and bombs. I mean, that doesn't leave all that much left, since we know Link has a whip and the slingshot in this game. Leaves 3 items we don't know about. At least the harp doesn't count, since it's assigned to the d-pad.

That would be the boomerang, at least to me. Well, it's not the exact same, but has the same function.

Except where the boomerang can have varying degrees of usefulness in combat (from Zelda 1 or Wind Waker's godsend to barely useful in Ocarina of Time,) I can't see the beetle being useful at all, except for against enemies that require it's use. It would be really difficult to whip it out and ram it into a Moblin as it's charging right toward you oh dear god look out!

The whip will probably take the place of the hookshot, though. Which I am okay with.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a hookshot like item already?
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=daoOSfetFiI
Pause at 00:16 and see the item in the B button. If so then the whip is most likely a combat weapon.

(Note: This is based off of what I can make out of it.)

slingshot, and the bow. Please, just give us one or the other.

Click here and go to where the Bow and Arrow and Slingshot are.
The bow is a powerful weapon but very slow to get ready to shot a Moblin especially when it's running towards you. The slingshot on the other hand is the one to use in this scenario. It may be weak but the bow is slow in scenarios like the one I mentioned.

If this were TP however I would agree with you because in TP the bow is way easier to use.

EDIT: Also those golden sculpture pieces might be the new possible big key!

Hm, that 'Hookshot" looks more like an even more upgraded Beetle. But, who knows? It might even be a Hookshot!
