I think I'll wait til reviews pour in, and if the story mirrors that of the last two games, I might pass on this one and just stay content restarting my Heart Gold game.

The more I see/hear about this game the less excited I'm getting. It just seems that they aren't really adding anything worthwhile. I've always hated the Pokemon contests (unnecessary, not fun, no decent reward, only good part being the move portion), and the new "Poke Musical" just sounds twice as retarded. Pokemon dancing while in battle and some areas changing seasons sounds cool, but that's just aesthetic stuff.

Reviews are all opinions. You're going to have to try and find out if you like the game by playing it yourself. Not by having other people tell you not or what to buy. Not liking a game for having a lot more content, better graphics/gamplay than let's say gen 1 or 2 are not reasons for not liking a game IMO. Unless you're one of the 19 - 21 year olds that are extremely nostalgic and hate changes than i would understand why you're not excited and rather restart heartgold than to restart ruby or diamond.

But I also hope the seasons don't mess with encounter rates much. Making 'Mons a little more common or rarer is okay, but I don't want any "only found in Winter" BS.

That may all be well and true, but not what I'm talking about. I don't want to read reviews to get peoples opinions of the game; I want a quick sample of what to expect. If the plot is something different than the last two gens formula, it'll shine clearly through reviews.
I am indeed one of those incredibly nostalgic 19-21 year olds. I wouldn't say I hate the changes though, my main annoyance would be if nothing major changed. So far there's just been a lot of stuff added to the game. Triple battles, Poke musicals, ridiculous water type HM's, etc. They did a fine job with these for S/G and D/P, but thus far from what I've heard of B&W I can't think of one new feature I'm actually looking forward to :/.
In truth though I'm just waiting for them to release a tactics Pokemon game that plays more like a Final Fantasy. Love the games to death, but it'd be a lot more fun if they made it less Rock Paper Scissors, which, let's be honest is all there really is to Pokemons battle system.

Actually I'd completely dig that. Swarming is terrible because it relies completely on chance. Having Pokemon only available during a set time, (like G/S with the night/day) is completely fine and makes complete sense. Migrations! Caterpies during the Summer! Metapods during the Fall/Winter! Butterfrees during the Spring!
Man, it'd actually be even cooler if the seasons were determined by events in game. Like every 2 badges the season changes.

So, it permanently Winter after you beat the Elite 4?
I would much rather see a Pokemon that can alter the season, IMO.

What they should do is, instead of making it like Oracle of Seasons with a season-changing Pokémon, they should have the season change every real week. Sure, it may be weird for it to be August for us and it's snowing there, but you mustn't forget that it's VIRTUAL and does not have to match our setting. It would sure beat the hell out of waiting 6 full months to catch a season-exclusive Pokémon.
A week might be even too long to wait. I'd say maybe an hour....I mean, come on, it was so annoying in G/S/C when you had to wait an entire week for the Ferry. Imagine that for just a single Pokemon.

Again, I was fine with this. Makes sense that certain businesses don't operate 24/7
I was thinking more along the lines of it doesn't change until after you beat the elite four in which it goes on a cycle.
(Psssssssssssssst- you can change the time on your DS to fool the game)

But you'll also mess up some timed events, such as Lucky Number
