So, I found a wallpaper that really hit me hard. Seemed like such an emotionally loaded piece - I just couldn't pass it up.
Here's my desktop. The name of the piece is "Alone at the End of the World," by the way.
I really like a clean desktop, so you'll note I have no icons whatsoever up there. Nor do I have icons on my second display (a larger monitor).
I'd also like to take this opportunity to explain the somewhat unique functionality of my desktop. While I have no icons, that doesn't mean I can't quickly access files and folders. Four programs and four folders are linked to hotkeys on my computer - ctrl+1 through ctrl+6, plus a couple special hotkeys. If I ever DO want the icons there (say there are other people who want to use my computer), I simply hit control+alt+d (for desktop), and six icons appear for use along the top of the screen. A second press of the combination will hide them again. Finally, the most unique aspect of my desktop is an implied internet search prompt. While on the desktop, if I type "google" followed by a space, then a search phrase and enter, my internet browser will open to a google search of the chosen term. This is completely transparent to the user - you won't seem to be doing anything until after you hit enter and the internet browser pops up into action. It's a setup I spent a couple days working on, but I'm extremely pleased with its simplicity, functionality, and uniqueness.
