Not much to comment on. I like the palette. I never really understood why there's a void in NPC rooms.

My guess would be that it was done this way in Z1 to keep the text readable. Nowadays, of course, ZC allows textboxes.

Yeah, but an alternative is what the BS Zelda did and just make a very dark floor. Or use textboxes. It looks kinda empty otherwise.

 

And if you don't feel like doing either, you could always fill the bottom half with floor tiles.
