I'm about to watch a movie called "The Wind Rises". I got it for only $10 at Best Buy. I heard it's supposed to be good. What am I gonna expect from this Studio Ghibli film?

I'm taking liberties with "Anime" on this one (going into western anime) but does anyone else remember the show The Tick? (it's on queue to be watched)

I've been watching Dragon Ball Z Kai which, after watching the abridged series, is alot more hilarious! For instance, when they first killed off Yamcha all I could think of was Goku saying "Oh no! Yamcha's been Yamcha'd!" from this : (go to 1:42 to hear the line)

Elfen Lied is a pretty polarizing anime, so I can't say for sure that you won't like it, but I personally wasn't a fan. I found it focused too much on shock value and sacrificed more important things like building believable or likeable characters. The story ranged from forgettable to borderline comical as a result. And then it abruptly ended. The opening and ending themes were both pretty great, though. They deserved better.

To me, Elfen Lied is a series a teenager would probably enjoy, which was my age when I watched it.
It's got tons of violence and nudity. So, when you're young, it feels really "mature" (emphasis on the quotes) due to its edginess. And, well, if that's still the main thing you're interested in, you might like it. Just don't go into it expecting amazing characters or a deep story.

Jeez, am I the only person who's been following Assassination Classroom? It's my new favorite anime right now.
Basically, a man-sized tentacled monster blows up three quarters of the moon as a show of power. He goes straight to the government and states that in one year's time, he will destroy the Earth. Needless to say, the government's first response is to send out everything they've got. Since this creature can move at speeds topping Mach 20, they can't touch him. He makes a single request of the government. He wants to be the teacher for the E Class (the "failure" students) at a famous private school. He doesn't explain why he wants to be a teacher, but the government agrees on the condition that he's not allowed to harm any of the students during the time that he's their teacher. Their agreement is only because he's too fast and powerful for them to track, and this will get him to stay in one place where they can keep an eye on him.
The students of Class E are told that they have one year to assassinate their own teacher. He's immune to conventional weapons, but his body disintegrates when it comes into contact with special "Anti-Sensei" material. This material is as soft as rubber, so their weapons can't harm each other, only their new teacher. Whoever manages to kill him will receive 20 million yen as a reward for saving the planet.
The funny thing to this entire situation is, this guy is pretty much the best teacher they've ever had. He's able to get complicated lectures across in a way that they can easily understand him, and takes advantage of his Mach 20 speed for grading papers, creating individualized tests that hone in on each student's particular strengths and weaknesses, and at one point when they need to cram for exams, he begins moving so fast that he creates after-images, and then each after-image begins privately tutoring each student at their worst subject, these individual subjects symbolized by the corresponding after-image wearing a matching headband. (The student who is failing multiple subjects gets a tutor wearing a Naruto headband!) He even creates an extra after-image who's job is to relax outside with a magazine and a cold drink, so he doesn't get tired. (Even the students start complaining at this point that he makes no sense.)
Their PE teacher is a professional assassin who spends their class time teaching them knife skills and close-range combat, and their English teacher is a foreign assassin who specializes in seducing her targets before killing them, and teaches them English by focusing on things to say to their target in bed. (She originally didn't plan on actually teaching them anything, but her initial assassination attempt failed, so she had to find some excuse to be able to stay for another shot.)
Is anybody else watching this one, or just me?

anyways, .. /
Anime is kick-a** but i think some the advertising commercials for it when it first came out could have been alots better.
