Both look great! Nice choice of colours and I don't really mind that open corner as long as there is no solid object on the other side icon_razz.gif. Can't say much; I'm speechless!

Thanks a bunch!
I closed up the corners, and cleaned them up a bit.

First screen of my Hyrule Field. What do you guys think?

I'm sorry, I don't really like this a whole lot. The mountains are (mostly) fine, though the one overlapping the other one at the left part of the screen looks downright bad, not to mention wrong.

One of the major problems with the way you design your screens Lynker, is the fact that you cram so much crap into the middle of it, instead of spreading it around a little. You want to give the player space to move in, so if you put the trees around the outer parts of the shot instead (though if you want them at the edge, make sure there's another tree, or something in the screen next to it).

Another problem, is the fact that you keep using as many different tiles as you can get. See the small AltttP-tree'ish thing? That clashes with the smaller "MC" trees, and thus completely ruins any sort of immersion the player might have had beforehand. Instead of looking at cool tiles going "Damn, I want that in my game", consider every single tile you put into it. Think why you choose that tile, and why it should be where you want it to be. If you can't find a good reason, don't put it in there. The most important thing you could possibly learn about screen design is knowing when not to put an object down.

I have one good thing to say about this one though (that I couldn't say about your others); you closed the upper right corner in a nice way. Instead of putting a simple tree in the middle of the corner, you actually made the entire area inaccessible instead. This works, because not only does it effectively block the corner, but it also doesn't look too cheap. I do have one suggestion though, and that would be to place a few trees in there, or perhaps water. I'd personally go for a little pond of water occupying that entire space, as it would greatly help break up the monotony, not to mention add a little extra color that isn't green (which the screen has way too much of at the moment).

So basically: not a very good screen in my eyes. It has a few nice twists that I like, but it's mostly just "another generic shot", and while it's not downright bad, it's just nothing interesting, and it's certainly not very memorable.

I can't speak for Robin (and it was his commentary you were following), but I think it looks great. Plenty of room to move around, nice overall layout. The only thing I'd change is the mountain overlap. I think it looked better before. There, I could easily picture it in my head, just imagining that the mountain overlapping the other was the taller of the two. Now I can't really imagine what's going on. But otherwise, nice screen!

I don't know what I see wrong with This screen, but something about it just doesn't seem right.
What do you guys think?

Please be good...

I think an NPC where the flower is in the middle would look nice. I would also put some detail tiles in the middle of the road with layers icon_smile.gif

That mountainside looks repetetive, change it up a little with some different tiles here and there.

Edit: Also that grass palette is icky. Yeah it's Death Mountain, but I don't think orange and green fit together that well in grass or trees. You gotta choose, man.

It's perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe add some lava cracks? It would make it seem more epic.

I like it myself. I think the color choices are very fitting for what it is. The grass part looks right to me too, as it indicates something semi-arid, in relevance to the rest of the screen. Very nice detail for a screen whose overall concept is quite simple.

I still say the grass needs either a bit more green to the brown section or a bit more brown to the green section. It can't be both.

Very nice fitting for Death Mountain. I'm assuming as we get closer to the top, boulders fall?
