I used a different technique to make solid combos.  Just tell the FFC to set the combo underneath it to be solid.  This requires that you play some games with layers to avoid making it wreck your screen, of course, and it's kind of "blocky" in the sense that the FFC only makes the nearest 16x16 area solid.  But it doesn't gitter or anything.

You''re correct: You can set an FFC to draw invisible, solid combos under it, but if you want fine FFCs smaller than 16x16), that doesn't work well.

 

What does work well with this method, is to use an FFC to draw an invisible combo that can be moved, and then update the position of the FFC, and solid combo every frame, to create scripted push blocks.
