I like design of these screens, though the houses look awkwardly small (I'd suggest 1 more tile for the roof) and the pots don't look very good.

First off, they borders around the quick sand. The edges are WAY too dark, and it makes it stick out like a sore thumb.
Second, I understand this is a desert, but the mass use of yellow and brown is really hurting the shot. It needs some color diversity.
Maybe a small pool of water, a patch of grass, or heck maybe some mountains.
Finally, the way you've placed the trees and cacti just seems so unnatural and clumped together.
You might fix this by spreading them around w bit, or removing a couple.

2. I threw in some purple flowers.
3. Added mountains.
4. I kinda thought cacti grew in a group, plus I don't want the screen to be too obstructive.

I also re-modified the screen a bit.

Ignore the bad cropping. Just trying to see if the perspective there looks alright. Oh yea, and the shadow, yea or nay?

@Fausch: Nay on the shadow, kinda looks out of place.
Right on. I'm playing with some ways of making the lighting a bit more dynamic. Is it the shadow in general, or do you think I can tweak it to make it work?

Edited the right side of the screen, removed majority of the red trees (as my RL friend said there was too many), added Spumes and lastly. . .Ben Drowned.
Reposting the old version for comparison:

I personally believe the new one is far more "structured" and less "cluttered" than the old one.

I don't understand the screen at all. So no on both.
Well, I'd say it's back to the drawing board, then. I was trying to make it look like there was a sort of dip in the terrain right there, but I guess it just caused perspective fuckage.

I think this is as good as you can possibly improve it. I've nothing bad to say about it anymore. One last time reposting it, I think I've edited this screen far enough:

Very nicely done. However, the pink flowers near the bottom may interfere with Link walking into the screen.

I got new pot tiles. So they look a lot better now.
