Sorry I do not understand if I use the sword first on the crystal the wand shot will not go anywhere but up.
I am not ble to push the blocks so am I missing an item?

In lvl 7, I'm using the lens and I see the darker paths, but sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I mean I will walk across, but the next time, just fall to bottom floor. What gives?

The checked style black pits are pits you can fall into. While you do not that discoloration you will not be able to fall in.
I also used the ladder to prevent you from getting knocked into the pit by enemies or prevent you from just walking into it by accident.

I'll walk on my ladder and then fall through a dark section which I thought to be safe. One other thing. There is a locked door with 2 torches and I'm supposed to light the bottom right with my wand, but it just goes through?!?

Ladder will not work on the conveyors and the lock door with the torches need to be lighted in a certain order and requires the magic book to do so.

what area is the book in? I believe you mentioned the last wand upgrade is in Ice Lake, which I still haven't found yet.

The ice lake is that main room with all of the ice and bombable areas. Be sure to explore everywhere in that room. You have your map to let you know where you haven't been.

The pit you keep falling into actually is a pit to fall into. The darker area the lens is showing you is not an invisible path, it's a path that appears when a condition is met.

I've been to every room in Ice Lake then. I went around it again with the lens and verified I opened every chest. You say the Book is still somewhere in this room?

Not in it, south of it. There is a door to the south that, apparently, is easy to overlook. I think you're the third person we've had to point it out to. =\

I am now stuck on the tower's fourth floor. I completed level 4 and beat didogger in the tower. The message at the tile is to go back to basics - I am not sure how to progress. I got the key from the room south of didogger but cannot figure out how to open the west door.

Back to basics is a hint that what you are missing is something that was done in the original Zelda quests, something very sneaky. If you have played through both Zelda 1 quests, you should know that there are ways to go through walls without doors other than just bombing them.

Are the enemies in the mysterious forest and the eastern map supposed to make link change through his weapons and use bombs/potions/boomerang/etc. randomly supposed to happen or is my computer freaking out?

Yeah... drunk ropes suck, don't they? Do yourself a favor and don't buy potions or super bombs before walking in there. Those ropes will, invariably, use them up on you. ^_^;
