So a bit of a status update for me, my brother just preordered Pokemon X for me.

I'm probably going to preorder it this Friday, so I can actually get one because I expect it to run out like the first day lol. I think it said somewhere that in Japan, preorders for X and Y have gone up to like 1.5 million or something like that? Incredible.

Targets around me had a preorder card that costs $1 and when you pick up your copy, you get a $5 Target giftcard, so you could try there.

 

The preorder cards are also supposed to come with a pin, but a lot of people just ripped the pins off due to how badly they were secured, but maybe you'll still find one.

 

Alternatively, Toysrus' website has a Buy one, get one 40% off for all Wii U and 3DS games including Preorders. Just you may get it a few days later than release, but you save a little bit. I think it has to be shipped to your house unfortunately.

 

Finally, I believe Best Buy has a deal where if you buy X or Y, you can get an older Pokemon game for 50% off assuming you don't have them all already. I'd like to do this, but I already preordered at Target and I kinda want to save some cash for ALBW, so no other games for me for now.

According to Serebii, they claim that Gen VI has only 69 new Pokemon. Looks like this game may have several last gen Pokemon, and that's NOT a bad thing.

I'm surprised Serebii has started covering it already. Though yeah kinda been known for awhile now if you've been looking at the leaks. I still kinda feel they should've been able to do better. Instead of giving us Megas, they should've done new pokemon still.. At least this probably won't be a disaster like PMD3 was though.

 

I have heard however that the post-game is terrible though, where there's essentially nothing to do after a short bit...

I'm honestly not disappointed that there aren't as many new Pokemon as there were before, gives it less chance of being full of horrible and bland concepts. *glances at Black and White*

 

And hey, a good number of the new ones this time around actually look neat, so there's that.

See, I actually like a lot of the Pokemon they added in Black and White. One of the reasons I enjoyed Black was that it forced you to exclusively use the new Pokemon, which stopped me from falling into old habits. That having been said, I'm still glad there are less to learn this time.

Alright, picked up Y today and beat the first gym. I believe I've decided on going with Fennekin and Squirtle as my starters, though haven't run into the Kanto starters yet. Gonna post some impressions in spoilers:
 

Spoiler

Positive impressions:
- World feels more immersive thanks to the little interactions with objects and people; your character will sit on benches, actually bend down to pick up an item and put it away, and, when talking to a small child or Pokemon, will actually crouch down a bit to their level.
- Lots of good wild Pokemon variety early.
- The character interaction between your four new friends is pretty neat, especially when they move on their own and little messages display above their heads as they make their own observations. They're slightly handholdish in this way, but not too terribly so.
- The character customization seems like it's fairly in-depth and really adds to the idea of making the character all your own, instead of a blank template. Haven't seen just how in-depth it is yet however.
- First gym is really creative.
- I like that you, for once, have to make your way to the lab, instead of it being accessible from the start.
 
Negative impressions:
- It still feels a bit rehashy; I've seen a couple of lines now that are pretty much almost direct rips from previous games, and the forest is practically a straight lift of Viridian Forest. It's early though, so we'll see how this progresses.
- Why are we still having the Pokemon-catching tutorial forced on us? I actually had just caught a Pidgey right before being shown how to catch them. Shouldn't there at least be some check so they can be like "Oh wait, you have one already, never mind"?
- The online feature seems a bit buggy. It's a neat, simple feature, but you have to turn it on manually. If you don't, your 3DS won't be connected to the internet and people won't be able to see you online. I admit this is only troublesome for those who want to be seen online, but the next problem: If you turn on the internet connection, leave to go to the main menu, then return to game, you get a connection error and get disconnected again. You can reconnect, but it's still a bit annoying. By default, you have to save before connection, but I think you can turn that off. If so, then this is less of a problem, but still a bit irritating that it exists.
- It takes a bit to get used to movement, but then camera screws make it a little annoying. Skates are a little unwieldy when trying to move precisely, which makes me wish they were equippable instead of used via Circle Pad while the D-Pad is walking/running, but this is a bit awkward to use.
- I still miss HG/SS's wonderful touch screen menu system, though the new online system is convenient.
- Oh, and the worst thing, it made me battle and defeat a little girl's Pichu. My experience is ruined!!!!!! Okay not really but I'm upset. (still not really)

 
The good outweighs the bad so far though, so hopefully this'll still be a pretty enjoyable journey through and through. I am enjoying it so far, despite the shortcomings I listed, but these aren't truly anything terrible. Yet.

I also caught a pokemon right before the tutorial and heavily dislike the skates as well.

 

Anyhow, I also got a Vivillon (Also National Pokedex #666), this gen's final form in the early bug line. it has the Modern design on the wings, It's design varies from what region you have your 3DS set to. Might be fun collecting them in the future. I've heard there's at least 10 designs, possibly more.

 

Teamwise, I got a Pikachu in the first forest, have a Vivillon that I evolved from the caterpillar thing and I'm getting ready to dump my starter in the box permanently once I get Charmander as the third form of Fennekin is highly unappealing to me. After this I'm hoping to get some Eevees so I can get Sylveon and probably a Flareon too eventually.

Spent a good amount of time playing it today.

I went with Fennekin because I love foxes and I love fire. Plus I knew I was going with Squirtle as my Kanto starter. I'm just past getting the Kanto starter now and I was running just Fennekin, Fletching, and Squirtle, when my Fletching evolved... and became part fire type. So... he was out because I didn't like the composition of my team at that point and I started building up Bunnelby... from level 3. :/  Still, I'm really enjoying the game.

 

Things I like:

-The new battle engine is fantastic. Some of the subtle ways the Pokemon use their moves is really nice.

-The PC is much faster and easier to use

-Switching Pokemon is fast and easy as well

-OMG, the city is AWESOME

-New soundtrack is great, especially the remixed tunes

 

Things I dislike:

-It's pretty tough to control the skates at times, and I think it's because the camera is zoomed so far in. If we had a bit more space I don't think it'd be so bad.

-Unnecessary tutorials are unnecessary

 

I'm sure I'll have more thoughts after playing this more, but for right now those are the main things.

Man, seems like the vast majority of people I know playing the game took Fennekin/Squirtle, it's surprising. Not that it's a bad thing, seems like legit combo. Great minds think alike and all that.

 

Well, I got my Pichu egg, I've done all I've set out to accomplish. >.> <.<
