My memory don't serve me well, but I believe the key's location on the map is 2 screens up, one screen right.

Just head north into the dungeon. That maze path has no other exit.

You'll have to in order to leave that area. The only way out is to finish the dungeon.

mmm...! got the flippers and ladder...
that was temple of water ,, maybe?
I was willing for dungeons 4 or 5 , maybe flippers will make things easier ?
