One of the worst things about OoT was its reliance on pre-rendered backgrounds for certain areas (most house interiors, Castle Town, etc). If they keep the mitten hands and get rid of those, fine by me.

While I agree that it was a weakness in the game, I'm not sure the N64 was really capable of much better. It's obvious, by looking at OoT, that they sacrificed a lot of detail in the surrounding areas in order to focus on 3-dimensional detail for the Link model, figuring you spent most of your time looking at him. (Especially the girl gamers -- they seem to quite enjoy looking at Link. icon_razz.gif)

Seriously.
Comparison #1
Comparison #2
If anybody says that the N64 looks better, you need to see an optometrist. >_> There's healthy nostalgia value, and then there's willful wrongness.

Ehhh. His head is way too big. Not to mention his hair looks like he's rockin' The Zohan's "Avalon" self-haircut.

I dunno, I'm just not that hyped about this anymore. It sounded promising at first, but I've grown to the realization that the difficulty will most likely be significantly lowered.

I actually like the Link from N64 better ( icon_eek.gif ). Maybe it's just that I'm so used to the original It's hard to get used to the new link. Sure, the new graphics are nice. But considering they kept the great fairy, they might as well keep the old link. icon_shrug.gif

It is the same Link...The superior graphical capabilities make it easier to make him resemble how he was meant to look rather than the blocky Link we know from the N64. If you've played Super Smash Bros. Melee, you know what I'm talking about.

I, like many people, also like the original N64 Link, just for nostalgia icon_razz.gif

Did you play Majora's Mask on the Gamecube?

...because you seem to be forgetting that the original Majora's Mask required you to buy a special memory add-on that increased the N64's capabilities. icon_razz.gif If Majora's Mask looks more graphically impressive than Ocarina of Time, there's a very good reason for that. It's the same reason Majora's Mask could handle a swarm of attacking Keeses all at once, while OoT could not.

Definitely prefer the 3DS, not only have I always wanted a better graphic OoT, but now hand held too makes it much better.

Me too man! I love the original Oot. But, you got to admit, compared to todays graphics, they're complete s***. I love them though for nostalgia reasons. But I've always wanted a remake. And hopefully after this, they do Majora's mask. OoT under looked but just as much awesome cousin.

Oh yeah, I totally understand that it was necessary at the time, and I'm not really knocking the game for it, I'm just pointing out that those environments looked bad even for the time (because of their low resolution). A lot of people are taking digs at OoT 3DS, but the textures and models are much higher quality, and they're still managing to eliminate the 2D environs (from what I've seen so far). Not bad for a handheld launch title.

Why would you say that? We've seen nothing that would indicate a difficulty shift one way or the other.

Yeah, the difficulty isn't really even mentioned, except for space/distance issues (which may make the tennis match with Ganondorf a bit easier... or, rather, less annoying). I think the difficulty in Ocarina is about perfect, and it seems that Ocarina 3DS will keep that same difficulty curve, with very few tweaks.

That almost makes this tempting to get, actually. Master Quest... not bad, not bad at all. More interesting dungeons almost make up for the lack of an overworld. I'll have to see how my profits come in, though.

Edit: Also, I still wouldn't touch the original. I wouldn't touch the original with a 10 foot pole, either. Also, probably will wait until I can find a used copy for cheaper, there'll be better games to get for the 3DS while I wait, which means less money.

Hm. I might just get this now. I have Master Quest on the gamecube, but my broken controllers make it almost impossible to play, so yeah. Smart move on Nintendo's part.
