I beat Birthright earlier on. I ran with a female avatar and ended up marrying Jakob. Who tragically died due to my own stupidity toward the end of the game. ;-; As I had intended - I tried to not reset as much as possible. (Definitely made a few exceptions along the way) It made things a lot more interesting, having to be extremely careful no matter what I did. And while I did reset a bunch, I definitely let go a few units as painful as it was to my party. (Jakob being a prime example.) I also ended up missing out on a lot of paralogues as a result, so I may do another run down the line to experience those.

That said...

End Game Spoilers?

With Birthright done though, I started Conquest a bit with a male avatar this time. I turned off permadeath pretty much immediately. Good lord this is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. And the fact that there's little to no grinding available is frightening to me. @_@ I'm only on chapter 8 (though I did recruit Mozu) and am feeling overwhelmed a bit, ha ha. Decided to take a break and started playing Pokemon Blue.

I also forgot how annoying some of the mechanics were in the original. Wrap and Bind are probably the most bullshit moves in the first generation, despite being pretty weak moves. When fighting Erika, Her Victreebell caught me in a loop of Sleep Powder and Wrap, and there was little I could do to stop it. If I decided to use an Awaken to wake up my Pokemon, she'd just use Wrap, and I'd be completely helpless for several turns, and as soon as Wrap would cease, she'd use Sleep Powder, and the cycle would start all over again. It was pretty bollocks.

Despite the problems with the original games, I still adore them. Kanto is such a magical place that I just love to explore it, and catch as many Pokemon as I can. It was basically my virtual playground when I was younger, and I'm super happy to visit it again.

Don't forget that the AI can pick their move when their turn comes up, meaning you could be hit with Thunder Wave, use a Full Heal, and the AI does it AGAIN. Really annoying with sleep as well, although the Poke Flute can be used. Thankfully, on the positive side, the AI is really easy to exploit. Prime example when I last played Red. I was fighting Lance at the Elite Four using a Tentacruel. So it's weak to Psychic, right? Guess what type Agility is? All his Dragonairs did was spam Agility. They probably could have made short work of me otherwise (them being level 61 each and my Tentacruel only 46), but their AI was beyond busted. Same with Erika; using Venusaur, I kept having PoisonPowder attempted on me (Grass being weak to Poison). But being part Poison itself, Venusaur is immune to being poisoned.

As for a few other things, Trainers can pick their actions WHEN their turn comes up. So you managed to poison one of Brock's Pokemon? He'll just instantly Full Heal it away every time. This includes when they use Potions, but that could potentially save you. Still kills me that Lorelei, in my opinion the hardest Kanto Elite Four member despite being the first one, only uses Super Potions in Gen 1. Better her using that on her Lapras than risking Blizzard OHKO'ing my underleveled Mons.

To be honest, I feel Gen 1 is really easy, especially since mid to late game, level disadvantage doesn't really matter. I mean if you have a half decent team, the Elite Four is easy even if you're only level 45. With a good team, you could pull it off at level 40. If you want an idea, when I played Red, I was able (thanks to a lucky critical) to defeat Blue's level 65 Blastoise with a single Thunderbolt from a level 47 Jolteon. That would NEVER happen now, not to mention modern games would certainly have Trainers with movesets built around countering obvious weaknesses. In this case, Blastoise would probably have Earthquake and an Ice move to counter Electric and Grass respectively.

I started playing Pokemon FireRed again since about a week ago. I'm about to take on the Viridian gem (which is probably gonna be easy, as have all the other gym's).

I've made it a goal to name every single pokemon I catch, even if I don't plan on ever actually using them.

This is my team:

XNuEfEE.png

The pokemanz:

Custom Name - Pokemon's Real Name - Held Item

Slepneer - Seadra - Nothing: Modified version of "Sleipnir" which is Odins horse in Norse mythology.

Garnet - Mankey - Nothing: A character from Steven Universe.

Fritzch - Fearow - Blackglasses: Modified version of "Fritz" which was a unit in one of the new FE games. I don't remember which one though, I just remember the name from some screenshots someone posted in chat.

Verndottir - Graveler - Cleanse Tag: Modified version of "verndari" + "dottir:" with means "protector" and "daughter" in Icelandic, respectively (according to Google Translate).

Wheatley - Oddish - Everstone: Wheatley from Portal 2. I gave him the Everstone because this is too adorable to let evolve: fxjlV06.png

Peridot - Venusaur - Nothing: Another Steven Universe character.

I may make a edit/post showing off some of the pokemon I've used occasionally aside from my main team.

Edit: For some reason a chunk of my post went missing after I posted it. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

So instead of playing Pokemon entirely (I still am, just slowly) I've gone back to Etrian Odyssey Untold since I've yet to beat this game. Kinda want to get that, Untold 2 and Mystery Dungeon out of the way before 5 comes out. @_@

I made it past the 3rd stratum (Finally. The random encounters there are really irritating.) and am now bashing my head against Gladsheim's 3rd boss. This thing. Why does it exist? ._. I've almost had it down a few times, but one thing or another ends up happening and I get put into a hopeless situation. Like 'Oh, the protector's arms are bound so I can't use volt wall. And this stupid thing will use it's super-powerful-wipe-out-almost-the-entire-party electric attack.' Or 'Oh, the protector is paralyzed and it's going to use it's super-powerful-wipe-out-almost-the-entire-party electric attack, but paralysis picks that one critical turn to not let me use volt wall'. Or my personal favorite 'Oh you thought the boss only used it's super-powerful-wipe-out-almost-the-entire-party electric attack every 4 turns? Surprise! I'm using on the 3rd turn instead and you're not going to use volt wall this turn.'

I mean, I get what I need to do to win this fight. I'll get it one of these tries. But I just get this mixture of amusement and frustration when stuff like the above happens. I'm fearful for what areas 4 and 5 have in store. @_@ I kinda know what to expect for area 5, but I don't know the full details. Just one aspect that I know will get me. Many times. @_@

At the very least, the Gladsheim boss music is pretty good, haha.

Got Undertale last week. I can't stop playing it.

Love the characters, gameplay, music.

Already completed the Pacifist and Neutral ending.

Local Gamestop had Bayonetta 1/2 for $30, so I'm gonna have a blast with those.

Just finished Sonic Lost World for the PC. The 3DS version stuck to one or two ideas and tried to flesh them out, but didn't do very well with it. Some of the ideas they came up with were either bland or infuriating. (Stalked by a snow enemy that destroys the ball you have to roll through the level?) The PC has a TON of different ideas that randomly come and go, you don't get time to adjust to them, and you don't always get decent instructions. (The game does NOT tell you that Hover Wisp can do a Light Dash, and even if you remember that you could in Colors, it does not tell you what button does it) Some ideas were interesting, but it would have been better if they were introduced earlier on so players could learn and get used to the controls.

Honestly, the game would have been really good if it had been twice as long, had the "unique" levels more evenly dispersed, and had a few normal levels designed like "Super Mario 3D World", where you could play with the parkour in 3D without the gravity. The tube-based levels, both outside and inside, were kind of dull once you got around the weird shapes. Tubes don't seem to lend themselves well to Sonic-style loops and curves. Limiting the tube-levels into another subset of "unique" levels would have made them stand out more, and be more of a set-piece.

Now to pick through my Steam library and see what I should play next. I really need to pare down my backlog. Out of curiosity, how many of you guys keep a "Completed" category to sort through what games you've finished from what games you still have to play?

Ever since I played Twilight Princess HD, I kinda dropped progress on Xenoblade. Hopefully now with TPHD out of the way I can continue that. I'm interested in finally trying out Undertale, but everything is spoiled for me already. I find Genocide run to be the best developed route (outside the ending(?)) so I may go with that and call it a day since I don't generally replay games. I am also very interested in Bravely Second since I loved Bravely Default aka Square's redemption.

My TPHD preorder is here, but I won't be able to pick it up until the weekend.

In the meantime, I have Hyrule Warriors: Legends. Being able to switch control between allied generals is a very welcome addition, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how many enemies the 3DS can render at once. I'm not quite sure whether I find the My Fairy feature cute or creepy just yet, but it certainly makes for an interesting gameplay mechanic. I'm not quite sure whether I like Toon Link, either - he feels like a more agile Young Link without Fierce Deity.

Having said all that, there is no end to my hype for the Link's Awakening DLC. It's about time that game got some more recognition. :D

You playing on a regular 3DS or a New 3DS? I've heard it is virtually unplayable on the regular at times. Probably moreso on the Adventure Maps than during story mode.

I do still wish the Wii U version would be getting the new content as DLC beyond the characters since I play co-op normally and I don't even want it on my 3DS. I don't really understand the point of new characters if there are no new maps to actually play them on since I 100%ed ages ago.

New, thankfully. I can see why the old one would have issues.

And I'm pretty sure the Wii U version is getting more than the characters as DLC. At the very least, all future DLC will be for both games.

It's confirmed to be characters and weapons only sadly. http://wiiudaily.com...rriors-legends/

I don't think I'm ever buying another Koei Tecmo game after this. No offense to those who do of course, but it's kinda nuts for the Wii U game to be basically obsolete in under 2 years.

So, I was surprised today by my friend getting my Triforce Heroes, so I've been playing that with him. This game is absolutely ridiculous, and I love it.

I also got my N64 working, (forgot it needed a jumper pak to show the picture...) so I'm also playing Super Mario 64 on the N64 for the first time in over 15 years. Jesus. I'm getting old.

Very very close to finally finishing WWHD. I'm only 2 figurines away from a complete 100% run (besides the Light Arrows, which I'll get soon). And sadly, the two figurines are the Wizzrobe miniboss in the Wind Temple and Kogoli, one of the Rito who just randomly disappears after awakening Medli. Currently suffering trying to find the Tingle Bottles that have these pictures, but I hope I find them soon because I'm so close to finishing the collection :V
