After owning Undertale for two months, I finally started it and beat it. It was a charming and unique little game I had fun with, though I have to say, the neutral ending was kind of... really dumb. Immersion-breaking even. Felt like one of those really cheap jumpscare tactics, "tryhard" even, much as I hate to use that word. It wasn't truly terrible but it wasn't really that good either.

Then I beat True Pacifist and this game makes me feel things.

I've got Bravely Second, haven't touched it yet.

Edit: Early in the game it will spoil a lot of the late plot twists from the first game.

Jumpscare tactics? I dunno about that... or at least, I didn't get that vibe; it gives you plenty of warning before it does anything genuinely scary. There's nothing really all that suddenly startling... except one thing.

Spoiler

It definitely tries to mess with you, definitely tries to make you feel scared in a very visceral way, and definitely (most importantly) tries to make you feel like there's absolutely no way out.  It's supposed to test your resolve; it's supposed to make you, almost literally, go through hell to actually get to the end. The fact that it does it the way it does actually added to the immersion for me, personally.

Basically, I don't think it's trying to be some cheap edgy jumpscare thing.  I think there's a purpose to everything that's being done.  Of course, whether or not it works is entirely subjective. :P

Eh, I didn't mean literally a jumpscare, it was more of a comparison I suppose; jumpscares are (usually) cheap tactics, and I felt like the tactics used in the neutral ending were cheap. It's a good thing the pacifist ending made up for it. :P

I'm still playing RuneScape. I'm grinding away some requirements for a certain quest that's near-essential for high level boss killing.

So I just finished Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon! Woot! Probably gonna try and finish Pokemon Y next.

And of course, I'm gonna start Twilight Princess HD tomorrow! Super excited!

Am now a member of a Minecraft 1.8.9 server. I'm mostly playing it due to my older brother and his friend getting me into it. It's funny how my brother was offering me free stuff, but I politely rejected. Now I'm rocking full Iron (with Gold Helmet lol), a full complement of Diamond essentials (pickaxe, sword and shovel in that order of priority) and almost a full stack of Iron Ingots. I love how I was going from very tight, conservative play to going full on Rambo. It seems rushing mobs is most effective on the server, due to lag. Skeletons can easily be 3-hit KO'ed before getting a single arrow off. Fortunately for me, I got a bow early on from one. The downside? I have only a few arrows and no signs of chickens anywhere. Either way, I'll be working on my house tomorrow (technically later today).

Other than that, I was practicing a bit of Dr. Mario. I'm not a die hard pro, but I'm pretty decent at it. I'm mostly working on my speed and technique, namely mastering the timing of when the pill becomes controllable, moving it into place, rotating it and fast dropping it on High speed. I honestly feel like playing some Puyo Puyo or any variant of it to see how much better I am as an adult than as a 10-11 year old kid.

Back to Wind Waker HD again. Just got the Magic Armour from the Merchant trading sidequest, which I got done pretty quickly actually. Also made my way to the Wind Temple. Will probably begin this dungeon soon, but I must say, the remastered OST of the Wind Temple sounds so cool in this remake...

Been playing the shit out of Pokemon Blue on the 3DS. It's been such an incredibly long time since I've played the original, that I totally forgot about some of the original designs for these iconic monsters. Some of them look pretty awful.

Don't take steroids, kids. This is what it'll do to ya'.

I also forgot how annoying some of the mechanics were in the original. Wrap and Bind are probably the most bullshit moves in the first generation, despite being pretty weak moves. When fighting Erika, Her Victreebell caught me in a loop of Sleep Powder and Wrap, and there was little I could do to stop it. If I decided to use an Awaken to wake up my Pokemon, she'd just use Wrap, and I'd be completely helpless for several turns, and as soon as Wrap would cease, she'd use Sleep Powder, and the cycle would start all over again. It was pretty bollocks.

Despite the problems with the original games, I still adore them. Kanto is such a magical place that I just love to explore it, and catch as many Pokemon as I can. It was basically my virtual playground when I was younger, and I'm super happy to visit it again.

Two games lately. First, I continue to remain hooked to Xenoblade X. I've got 100% exploration of all five continents, and now I'm going for all of NLA to get full 100% survey of Mira. After that, I wanna try getting an infinite overdrive build and taking down the Wanderer-King, who remains the only of the game's superbosses I haven't killed. Why is this game so long and fun?

In other news, I finally played Undertale. Did a neutral run, then did some hopping around with save files to see the unique content in pacifist and genocide runs. The game's... interesting. I enjoyed it, despite it having lots of flaws. The progression itself is a bit too linear for my liking, but the battle system, the bosses especially, were tons of fun. Sans especially stands out as one of my favorite video game bosses ever. I was gasping for breath at the very end, which is something I don't think any other boss has done to me. I only wish the rest of the bosses were that intense. They were fun, but he felt like the only incredibly challenging one. For good reason, granted, but still.

As far as the story goes though... I really liked it up to a certain point. Near the end though, it went downhill fast. I hate to be a downer, but I kinda really, really hated the neutral ending. I'd even go so far as to say it's one of the worst video game endings I've ever seen. In the span of a few seconds, it destroyed all the amazing buildup and power the game's story had in favor of bad meta elements and shock value. Pacifist ending's a little better, but still pretty bad. It was a mess of poorly explained plot elements, contrived rule-breaking for the sake of an "emotional" story, a bunch of boring "power of friendship" tropes that felt painfully corny, and event boss fights that, while they seemed awesome initially, had no sense of danger to them. Genocide's ending was actually my favorite, if for nothing else, for being able to murder a particular character who I despise with every fiber of my being. It still had elements to it that were pretty dumb though.

All in all, fun game, good (initially) story with a god-awful ending, and amazing music. It certainly didn't live up to the hype (not that I was expecting it to), but it was well worth my five bucks.

After spending almost 150 hours in Fallout 4, I decided to beat the game and then take a break from it before the DLC comes out.

Lately I've been playing Witcher 3 which looks like it's going to be another 100+ hour journey.

Why are games so long these days? @_@;

Still working on Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. Soooooo many sidequests. I'm spending forever on them, yet still enjoying them.

That's me with X right now. I decided I don't entirely hate the game, just its main story, tiny text, and baffling steps backward, but the sidequests are awesome.

I spent a lot of my time with Fire Emblem Fates. My male Corrin ended up marrying Mozu! So far, I'm liking this game a lot better than Awakening. One gripe is that the RNG's are sometimes very unfair.
