Aevin: I never stated my opinion as fact. And I didn't say the ALBW graphics are ugly.

I clarified my opinion due to a big misunderstanding. I said what I preferred most. Nothing more.

Got a clarification in PM. Sorry for misunderstanding.

It's an issue of close-mindedness. If something is terrible to somebody, then it must be terrible to everyone. That's the way many people see it. It is close-minded because they either don't care about other peoples' opinions or they can't look further than their own. Sadly, this seems to be programmed into human nature as a whole.

Edit: @Shane: I don't think his post was primarily targeted at you, but at Lemon's.

So are we going to discuss ALBW or bash people because they're expressing opinions?

Sorry, my previous post was a little too vague. All I'm trying to say is that some people prefer more realistic art styles, while some prefer the more cartoony/cell shaded look. Personally, I like the bright colors better. I loved the graphical style of things like Wind Waker and the DS games, and ALBW fits in with my preferred aesthetic quite nicely. I understand, however, that it's not for everyone, and wouldn't push anyone saying that one is obviously better than the other.

All I want is the same courtesy. Repeatedly calling the graphics things like "butt ugly" isn't in any way adding to the conversation. It just makes the people who do like the style feel insulted.

Since when is disliking something or just having your own friggin' opinion being close-minded?  There's things in everyone's life that they'll like or dislike that everyone else doesn't seem to see it the way they do, but that's just their perspective.  I don't think you understand what being close-minded actually means.  Lemon's not being close-minded by disliking the graphics, he's expressing his own opinion on them.  And he hasn't actually attacked a single person for liking them, either.  Honestly, if anything, I find it more close-minded that anyone would be so opposed to someone having their own opinion just because they didn't agree with it.

And yes, I ranted earlier that people should be more open-minded, but when I said that, I was talking about a feature that no one had tried yet.  Everyone can look at and judge graphics for themselves, though.

Also, they're just graphics in a video game, to reiterate. :-/

Anywho, considering a strict budget, I'm probably going to be picking this up over Super Mario 3D World.  I really do want both, but I think a new Zelda will always take the higher spot above a new Mario, regardless of how fantastic 3D World does look.  I am still worried about the whole "game over = losing rented items" situation, mostly because...imagine dying in the Tower of Hera, losing the hammer that's required since the first room... Yeah, that might really suck. :(  But well, I still have faith that it could turn out right.

I can see your point on the graphics. I am partial to Four Swords Adventures graphics myself. I personally like the new style, but I can see where you're coming from. Why? Because you explained your opinion clearly with reasons to back it up. You've helped us understand your position better and engaged in debate, whereas before it just felt like very hateful insulting of the game with no real reasons, and a phrasing that made it feel like you're out to convince everyone you're right.

Anyway ... This is about the game, right?  I wouldn't expect an overworld to have the same kind of moodiness as a dungeon, and I don't really see the issue with the water. It probably looks better in motion, but I still have no trouble telling what it is. And I just don't get the point with the second screenshot ... Link's using the hammer to flip two of those shelled enemies over. I just don't see a problem.

While that 2nd FSA screenshot is absolutely great, I'm actually finding that first shot to be... kind of a bad example.  Okay, the colors are really good, but when I look at the SNES-style grass and mountains (and those particularly with the same errors they had back in '92, sigh), next to that super detailed waterfall and rainbow, it really clashes.  It just does not look right at all- it looks like someone copied the waterfall from an entirely different game and pasted it right next to the cliffside.

I would also like to point out that the water has seen improvements recently (that first screen of ALBW you used is a bit uhm, outdated at this point, I think):

Maybe it's just me but it does look a lot better now, compared to how it used to look.  The transparency is certainly helping, and I'd like to see it in motion.

I'm not outright disagreeing with you- some things do look kinda terrible and there's really no excuse, but I'm not gonna hold my breath until I have the game in my hands.  There's still time for polish.

I actually like the graphics, it looks like a 3D painting which is pretty. And when it comes to a "realistic" approach in graphics I actually want to see colour. Twilight Princess was just dull when it came to the Twilight Realms (but I also find it pretty in it's own way).

To me, I do feel like some graphics look awkward, but I'm pretty sure that's mostly because of the 3D effect.  I think that it would look better when you're actually playing.

You know, the footage is captured in 2D. The only way you can experience the 3D is in person.

Also that witch shot... that witch is so magical, it allows the broom to go through her dress. She really is the finest witch.

Uhhh.  I mean the 3D graphics, not the 3D effect.  From what I've seen, the 3D graphics in the game are DS-Pokemon style, where the angle you see stuff changes when you get near stuff.  So they have to make the graphics around that.  Or, at least that's what I thought it looked like in the trailers, but I'll admit it's been a while.

Yeah so they probably intend for you to use the 3D setting throughout most/entire game. Explaining why it looks odd in 2D pictures, it's not designed to be viewed in 2D. It's a similar issue with 3D movies featuring pointless effects that serve no purpose for 2D viewers (And very often look very clumsy) other then to show off the 3D effect to 3D viewers.

To be fair, most screenshots of 3DS games look not-very-impressive and turn out looking tons better in the actual game.
