So if I recall, I posted a large list of games I said I'd try getting back to awhile back on this thread. Well... I haven't touched a single one of those. I bought Undertale, beat that twice, and then out of nowhere instead of going to Metroid Prime 3 or something else on my backlog, I went and beat the original Metroid. I have no idea what I'm doing.
Although, while I'm here, just some thoughts. Aside from Mother Brain, I actually found the original Metroid much easier than Zero Mission. Perhaps it was just the maze-like rooms all over the place and so many locations looking the same that took me away from the game compared to its remake at first. But, after getting into it and actually mapping out locations, I found it quite easy to find everything and then beat all the bosses. Again, aside from Mother Brain, even the bosses were ridiculously easy. I was literally able to walk INSIDE Kraid and then just missile him without taking over an energy tank of damage on my own part and then I was able to stand directly in front of Ridley without taking a single hit. I'd never heard anyone call this game hard before... but if I do hear anyone call it hard I might end up laughing unintentionally just remembering the scene of how I beat both the bosses.

Finally back to some Old School RS grinding. Supposedly you can now get Clue Scrolls in bottles caught from fishing. However, I caught 1k lobsters throughout the day today and not even ONE. Well, at least I can enter the Fishing Guild now without boosting. I'm going to grind all the way up to 76 so I can FINALLY do the Fremmy Trials and Isles quests. Why 76? I need a Raw Shark, and being an Ironman, I can't trade, so that's pretty much my only option. Sucks I know, but I just used a calculator and by the time I'm done with this grind, I will have around 9,700 Raw Lobsters in the bank. If I do Family Crest and cook all of them, I should get 80 Cooking, maybe even 81 Cooking. Then I can upgrade to Swordfish for healing finally. I'm trying to avoid cooking things I don't have 100% success with. Going by that logic, that means I need to do Lobsters until 81 Cooking, then Swordfish to 90, Monkfish to 94-99 and Sharks to 99. It's a long grind, but I think it's worth it. Remember, I can't trade others.

You know what's not okay? Games that clear your save file for a second playthrough when you save them after beating the game. Ain't nothing but a pain in the ass, that is. Thanks, Gurumin...
Well, there's a few more things to do, such as another difficulty mode to unlock and even another character, not to mention costumes and such, but I think I'm gonna hang up the drill for now and move on to something else in my Steam library. I'll definitely come back to it, maybe see if Hard Mode alleviates any of my issues with the game's difficulty. There's an optional boss that's a pain in the ass, even with the overpowered attack, so that one I'm not looking forward to, but I'll be fine. Maybe. I hope.
As for what's next? Guess I'll figure that out when I get there.

Playing the new Digimon game on PS4. So far, I'm loving it. Much better than World 3 (or World 2003) on the PS1. The battle system feels like Ni No Kuni meets FFX. The way you handle your partner Digimon is like Ni No Kuni.

Much progress made in Xenoblade Chronicles and I'm pumped. And apparently also at a point of no return for a decent-sized chunk of the game world. But I'm not done exploring and questing, so it's time for the fun self-imposed challenge of going back and getting all sidequests done, or as many as I can. Will be a pain, but that's fine, it's still fun exploring and trekking around the world. Just not the grinding for particular materials and collectibles, that part's annoying. Either way, I've got some work cut out, and also I'll be able to build up some levels to further prepare myself for the final challenges ahead.
This is gonna be good.

I recently finished Final Fantasy VII. Had a very good time with it, even if I found it a bit on the easy side. I still need to go back and beat Emerald/Ruby Weapon though, which I understand will more than provide an ample challenge, ha ha.
With that done though, I booted up Final Fantasy IX. I only just got to name Vivi...after losing all my cards in that card game. ._. I don't think I entirely get it, ha ha. I've also been playing Smash a lot, trying out the new characters and just practicing in general.

I've been dual-logging into OSRS and trying different builds out in the Tournament Worlds. Some turned out to be more interesting than others. One build that I've doubted was a "Tank Mage". Normally, you never use the words "tank" and "mage" in the same sentence. The main problem is that traditional magic armor only defends against itself; it's as good as being naked against everything else. The best armor has mediocre melee defense and 0 ranged defense. The latter is a huge problem because most melee users can shred a mage with no problem, and rangers are meant to beat mages. Also, warriors can don ranger armor to defend against magic better with NO penalties.
The biggest thing is that people don't understand you don't NEED super high accuracy as a mage, since Magic is very accurate as it is, even against ranged armor meant to be strong against it. The thing is the best armor, Ahrim's, sucks as a full set yet pieces of it are the only way a tank is even feasible. Basically, you try to wear all mage gear and fight someone, your ass is getting handed back to you. Thing is, all that defensive bankrupt mage armor actually HELPS your opponent's DPS against you while only giving you a small bit of extra accuracy. But then you may ask, "Why not just bind/freeze the warrior and stay out of range?" The problem with that is people frown upon that in casual 1v1 fights and will run away and refuse to fight if you're "farcasting" them. Of course, if you're not Edgeville PK'ing, that and overhead prayers are fair game. Hope you have two combat styles to change between! So to actually get fights, you need to stand in melee range, which requires a lot of defense to tank. Otherwise, you would be torn to pieces.
Anyway, I've been following a guy's posts on the forums about his experiences with a Mage Tank. That originally made me curious and now that I got a chance to see it in action, I am really surprised how often you hit, even if an opponent has a decent defense against magic. That and you're pretty much safe from melee uses and even rangers in the tank setup. The one I was using is as follows:

So to explain the build to those that play Old School Runescape and try to make sense of it to those that don't. Almost all melee weapons good for PvP are slashing weapons, hence the slash defense is important. To hit accurately, a good Magic attack bonus is needed. With a full-on tank build, you could still hit often enough to be viable. This build I feel is the best overall tank setup. It has a commanding 291 Slash defense with 58 Magic bonus. If I was using the Ahrim's Robe Top, it would make my Magic bonus around the low 90s, but cost quite a lot of defense. Honestly, from what I'm seeing, Magic bonus beyond 40 or so is when diminishing returns kicks in. With this build, you are using the normal spellbook and are relying on Charge and auto-casting the spell Flames of Zamorak. With this setup, the most it can hit is 37. With its high accuracy, ability to drain an enemy's Magic level (making them even MORE vulnerable to your attacks), having binds and Tele Block, it has a lot going for it. For starters, hit consistency. Two, utility. Three, the ability to get secondary effects off with certain spells.
The full set requirements are:
-75+ Magic (to wield the staff, realistically 80+ Magic for the Charge spell)
-75+ Attack (to wield the staff)
-75+ Defense
-Recipe for Disaster quest fully finished (at least 176 quest points)
-Unlocked Flames of Zamorak from the Mage Arena
-Lots of money
I fought a guy with this build with 46 Magic defense and I think I hit about as often as I splashed (failing a spell). The frequency of the hits kept him on the defensive constantly as he had to keep eating just to avoid getting KO'ed. This DPS is pretty high compared to melee and ranged, both of which have less but have FAR superior burst damage. So Magic is basically the average but consistent damage class. He didn't hit very often on me until he set his Attack to 75 and used an Abyssal Tentacle (one of the best 1-handed weapons in the game). Then I started to have a bit of trouble, but still beat him pretty harshly. So he may hit harder than me, but I hit more often.
The other way one could use a Mage in PvP is using a fairly gimmicky weapon called the Black Salamander. It doesn't do much damage (around upper 20s at best), but it allows the use of a spell from the Lunar Spellbook called Vengeance (when damaged, you rebound 75% of the damage taken) to give you some KO potential. For instance, you hit a 26 with your salamander and your Vengeance rebounds a good 30+ damage back on your opponent. There is a pretty good chance he's going to be hurting badly or get killed. Sadly, the guy testing it was using a cheap setup and it was workable at best.
I won't lie. Mage tanking is really fun. Better than being in a fight where you and your opponent are both using melee and hitting 0s on each other constantly. Hope they add in the other stuff soon; I want to try out various Obby Mauler builds from 1 Defense up to a 75 Defense tank.

100% Wind Waker on Hero Mode the other day. Good lord, what a fantastic game.
Now, I'm playing A Link Between Worlds on Hero Mode, and Jesus, it's feeling about as difficult as the classic Zelda games... which I kinda love, honestly.

I beat Xenoblade earlier today, and that was an awesome experience. Not one I'm sure I'd consider groundbreaking, but it was certainly unique and had its own charm, and was just wonderful and enjoyable through the end. I was pleased by pretty much the entire thing, with a couple of annoyances that ultimately didn't bring down the experience any. The art is nice, the setting is fantastic, the story is good, the characters are fun, and the music is superb. All these elements just created an awesome package that I'm glad that I finally got to experience. One of my favorite games ever.
... it's too bad the sequel hasn't been able to hold a candle to it so far!

Just finished Link Between Worlds. It's not bad, but the individual dungeons are rather short, the bosses are pretty easy for the most part, and even though it was pretty much the entire point, it seemed to borrow TOO heavily off of A Link to the Past. If it weren't for being in 3D instead of sprite-based, I would have thought it was a rom-hack of LttP, honestly.
Funny thing is, the same time that I finished the game, one of my favorite Let's Players decides he's going to tackle it alongside a 3-way co-op of Tri-Force Heroes.
Other than that, I've got Shantae and the Pirate's Curse to finish up (I'm currently at Tan Line Island), and trying to keep ahead of Raocow on Distorted Travesty 3. Fortunately for me, he's doing the bonus "Nightmare Gate" levels, which is slowing him down just barely enough that I can catch up. He's currently at the boss for the second world's Nightmare Gate, while I'm probably something like halfway through the third world.
