That was where I said this game pretty much has the potential to easily be the best Smash Bros. game. ![]()

I'm interested in that mode on the 3DS Version. I can't remember the name, but I know it was like Kirby Air Rides City Trial.

Well, shoot. Looks like I gotta get both Smash Bros games now. At least I'll have time to enjoy the 3DS one for a long time before the Wii U one comes out.

I'm guessing the 3DS version will come out around August. It's a shame that the Wii U version is coming out in December considering the Wii U struggling right now, and Smash being one of the notable games on it.

That was quite an update. For the most part, I really liked the where this game is going. Here are my thoughts below.
Wii U vs 3DS
Lets be honest here, Wii U has WAY better graphics and a WAY better sound track. Don't think I'm saying the 3DS looks bad, I actually like the look of the 3DS version, I'm just saying the Wii U graphics are better overall. If that where the only differences, I would say the Wii U is the superior version ... but wait, the stages are different. In fighting games of the past, Soul Caliber for example, each version had its own exclusive characters. I'm glad Smash Brothers is not choosing to have version exclusive characters. The stages, however, will be version exclusive. Initially I was fine with this, but I thought a little deeper on this. Smash Brothers is known for its awesome stages. I only hope that one version doesn't have vastly superior stages to the other one. On a different note, I use to play competitive Smash during the Melee days. While I am out of the tournament scene now, I still wonder how competitive smashers will handle the different versions of the game. Sakurai said there will be something that will link both versions of the game together. My guess is as good as yours. I wonder if you can use your 3DS version to play on the Wii U version. Think of it as the 3DS being the controller for the Wii U and you just need to own the 3DS version of the game in order to do that. That would solve the competitive play part. I feel, in the very least, you will unlock trophies when you link both versions up to each other.
"Smash Run". Back in the old days of gaming, there where home ports of popular arcade games. Obviously, the NES couldn't handle the graphical capabilities of an arcade machine, so the NES version almost always added an extra level or two to the home port of the arcade game. Even the Sega Genesis and SNES added levels some popular arcade games. I feel this is the same situation for the 3DS version of Smash. The 3DS version simply can't hold a candle to the Wii U version in terms of graphics and music selection. If the Wii U has the superior stages, then that is 3 for 3. Of course, stage superiority can be argued for both sides at this point. My point is, I feel having the "Smash Run" a 3DS exclusive is a way to attract people to the 3DS version of the game. While it may not be a selling point, I do find this mode very interesting. If this mode becomes popular, I can see a lot of deep strategy brewing from this mode. My fear, is characters who have superior running speed will be able to collect more power ups. Also, I feel this mode will only be played a few times and be left alone. An interesting idea that is fresh for the Smash series. I do wonder if the Wii U version will have an exclusive mode now.
Online
"For Fun" or "For Glory". Hahaha!
You can only play on Final Destination on "For Glory" mode. Wait, you get different versions of Final Destination.
Wait, you can't play Final Destination on "For Fun". As a former competitive smasher, Final Destination is not the only neutral stage. In fact, some characters actually had an advantage on Final Destination. Nice try Sakurai. While having a competent online mode is nice for casual play, I don't see this as a means to replace competitive play.
So Nintendo will have a system that will monitor other players from trolling. Initially, this sounds like a good idea, but I have to poke fun at some of the things that where listed.
Relentless targeting of an individual is a really dumb reason to temporally ban someone from online play. If someone is going to get their feelings hurt for getting targeted, then they need to go offline and cry somewhere else. SephirothKen, the official king of Smash, had people team up against him in his early days of free for all tournaments. It was because he was better than the other players and the other players formed a temporary alliance to defeat the strongest person first. That is called strategy, and it is the nature of free for all Smash. If you have 150% damage and the other players have only 20% damage, who do you think I will go after? Considering I am playing a random person, this should not be considered bullying at all.
Cheats. Initially using a cheating devise to power up your character is a no no. This is a very good reason to ban a player from online play. There is another side of the coin. Being a former competitive player, I mastered techniques such as wavedasning, l-canceling, short hopping, and fast falling. Some people say those advance techniques are cheating because they where originally not intended to be used in the game. Even in Brawl, advance techniques where found. Even if there is still no l-canceling is this new version of Smash, I can guarantee advance techniques will be found in Smash 4. My only hope is Nintendo won't ban people from using these techniques online because of some whiny kid.
Ok rant is over. Well, it really wan't a rant, but I really like to nit pick at very tiny details.
Items
For me, one of the highlights in Smash is the items. These items look really cool: The POW block, beetle, Fire Bar, back shield, bombchu, Ore club, and X bomb all look like a ton of fun! I love how they are having legendary Pokemon come in master balls. It makes me wonder it master balls and pokeballs will be separate items. Of course, I loved the idea of assist trophies from Brawl. Go Elec Man and Pong!!! ![]()
Characters
No more multiple characters in a single character.
I really like that they did this. No longer will there be half characters! I liked Zelda's new down B and Zero Suit Samus got quite the upgrade. I love the new moves that Shiek got. Charizard is finally his own character! I guess Pokemon Trainer won't be returning. Lets be honest, Charizard is way cooler than Squirtal and Ivysaur.
They pretty much made Kirby's down B work like King DeDeDe's down B ... meh. I really like the power upgrade Lucario gets when his aura gets stronger. It is much more noticeable than his Brawl version. If anyone plays Project M, they also did something really interesting to Lucario's aura. Explain this to me Sakurai, how does making Yoshi and Bowser stand up straight increase their battle prowess?
Rosalina & Luma: What an interesting idea for Smash. I've seen the concept of Rosalina's character done in fighting games like Blazeblue's Rerirus and Carl. Anyways, I can see all sorts of interesting set ups done with Rosalina. I feel that her moves come out slow while Luma's moves come out more quickly. I feel this separating can be potentially dangerous in multiplier matches. Gravitational Pull looks OP. Her final smash looks like crap in terms of killing potential. It remindes me of King Dedede's Brawl final smash.
Little Mac: Getting upgraded from an assist trophies to an actual character. I have mixed feelings about Little Mac. I understand he is suppose to be a ground fighter, but the crappy air moves can really hurt him in higher levels of play. How much super armor will Little Mac have? This can really make or break the game. The Slip Counter reminds me of Lucario's counter in Brawl. Also, his OHKO moves kind of reminds me of Jigglypuff's sleeper move in how you can combo into that move at lower percentages. It looks like you can do the same with a fully charged OHKO move. I love the alternative costume for Little Mac. I hope Nintendo does this with other characters. Project is doing an excellent job with alternative costumes.
BTW, I wonder if Jigglypuff will make a return of get cut? To be honest, I really hope the original 12 characters from the first Smash game make it into the final roster.
The Villager: I honestly don't have much to say about this little guy. I've never played animal crossing. His final smash looks terrible, but I can understand the reference. Pocket looks like a really fun to use. Lloiod Rocket looks really fun as well. Balloon Trip looks like it can be destroyed making it a potentially dangerous recovery move. Timber looks like a very situational move, although it might be decent for edge guarding.
Wii Fit Trainer: Ok, I'm going to play this character as one of my mains to troll people. I wonder if Deep Breathing will work like Lucas' Offense Up from Project M? Deep Breathing will suck if it powers up all attacks for only one attack. I wonder if Deep Breathing will stack with Sun Salutation.
MEGA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
: Ok, time to take off the rose color sun glasses. Mega Man looks like a decent character on paper. He has many different kind of projectiles, however, I feel his up close game will be a little weak. His normal a attack is his mega buster, but it doesn't look like Mega Man will be able to properly follow up with any other moves from his mega buster. I can see Little Mac tearing Mega Man apart. My prediction will be Mega Man will be a keep away character. His final smash!!!!!!!!!
Why does Nintendo do WAY more justice to Mega man than Capcom?
Greninja: Our of all of the Pokemon, I felt this one was going to make it into the roster. I don't have much of an analysis for him right now, but he does look like a really fun character to play as.
Costume Move Sets
I like I like I like I like.
Imagine this, you can play as a Mii and select any move from any character for your Mii. Then you can modify those moves however you want. From observing the presentation, it looks like you can only modify each characters B moves. We will have to wait for more information before we can imagine creating a super OP character.
Conclusion
From a competitive point of view, I feel this game will be much better than Brawl, but it will not surpass Melee/64/Project M. I know I am comparing apples to oranges, but unless this game has l-canceling and enough hit stun for decent combos, I don't see the competitive level reaching the level of Melee/64/Project M. I'm not saying this game won't be a good competitive game, in fact, I feel this game has a lot of potential of being a great competitive game. I just have that old school bias that I can only explain properly to another one who has played Melee/64/Project M at a high level.
From a multiplayer perspective, this game looks like the best in the series. Best character roster, best items, and best diversity.
I understand Smash is more of a multiplayer game, however, I am disappointed there will be no Subspace Adventure like mode in this one. I think this game will recycle the other one player modes from previous Smash games. To be honest, I am fine with that, however I will be very happy if they add a new feature to the one player mode. I enjoy challenging myself against the computer in All Star Battle and Adventure Mode.
What else can I say, I am really excited for the next installment of the Smash Series. Thank you so much Sakurai for directing an excellent series of games. You have created one of my favorite series of video games of all time! ![]()

I didn't think of either of these things, and I wonder how it even gets monitored, unless people can just be reported. I believe you have some points, though I hope those special moves aren't included in the "cheating" category, or that's just not cool.
What I felt was more of a problem was the "frequent dropping" part. What if someone's net is just being really crappy that day and they keep getting dropped? Do they get penalized for something that's out of their control? That one I can't say I'm too sure about, but I'll only ever play Smash with friends anyway so it won't matter too much to me. I hope.
Why does Nintendo do WAY more justice to Mega man than Capcom?
Because Nintendo recognizes it as a beloved franchise and actually cares to give it the treatment it deserves. Honestly, it'd be nice if Nintendo somehow acquired the rights to Megaman. Or Inafune's company I suppose, but either would be a damn better handler of the franchise than Capcom right now.

The funny part about the Wii U version having a better soundtrack is hilarious, since they use practically the same audio format. There's no reason for the 3DS version to have a subpar sound. Even the DS had support for some amazingly high quality music.https://www.youtube....h?v=j9L-QzakeiM (and yes, this is the DS version of the soundtrack, almost identical to the PS3 version.)
For the Wii, they used a propritary music format known as .brstm (which is basically a loopable audio format akin to .ogg), and it was carried over to the Wii U and (I'm not sure but since the 3DS isn't hacked yet, I don't know) 3DS.

Ah yes, the marvel known by me as the beer-stem. As for me though, I contend that the 3DS version will have the superior soundtrack just for this reason: I heard Id~Purpose from Fire Emblem Awakening in the Direct, meaning it'll be in the game, meaning the 3DS version has the superior soundtrack.

I should of been more clear when I stated the Wii U will have a superior soundtrack. When Sakurai said you only have two songs to select from for each stage in the 3DS version vs a much larger library of music to choose from for each stage in the Wii U version, I feel the Wii U version will have a larger section of songs to listen to. I already know about the high quality sound the 3DS can produce, so it really isn't about quality I'm talking about, it is quantity. Would you rather have 40 high quality songs to listen to, or 200 high quality songs to listen to? That was my point.

All-in-all, it looks like the game is coming along nicely. I think the game's success will largely be made or broken by the reception of the online gameplay, so I'm hoping for the best. Expect to see me in "For Glory" mode frequently.

I couldn't resist:

So anyway. Awesome update, hell of an awesome one. Greninja looks really fun to play. The only thing I'm kind of disappointed by is that we won't have Pokemon Trainer anymore. I mean... I liked playing as him because you had to be able to adjust strategies on the fly because you couldn't effectively use one pokemon for a long period of time (nor could you constantly switch out). And it seems like Nintendo's trying to avoid having anything as complicated/unique as that? The only split I really like is between Samus and Zero Suit Samus, because I much prefer the latter. Also, I'm not a big fan of Zelda summoning the Phantom- it'd be like if Toon Link was armed with the TP Master Sword. It doesn't really make as much sense. You could say, "Oh, but it's Smash Brothers, not like it's canon anyway," and yet we still see Toon Link with the Wind Waker equipment and Adult Link with the Twilight Princess equipment. Phantom Zelda shoulda honestly just been a character all her own.
Other than that... the assist trophies look great, and the items look wonderful to mess around with. And seriously, I mean, fucking seriously:

Badass. Seriously badass.
There's so much more to cover, but I'm just too wiped out at this point by how much content there is.

Well, here comes a whole lot more. Tons of new screenshots seem to have materialized out of nowhere, featuring a lot of new items, among other things.
And also, the first Mother content we've seen in Smash 4! There's a Mr. Saturn in there, too. Nice to know the franchise hasn't been completely forgotten. It raises my hopes a little for Mother characters returning.
