I just started replaying this quest (haven't played it in years, but I loved it way back when and still remember most of the game) and thought I'd post a quick suggestion that occurred to me.
For the boss of the dam, unless I missed an upgrade somewhere, I think the player should arrive at that boss with more than the max of 10 arrows; it's just too easy to run out during that fight (and the 30 arrow drop that appears at the start of the battle disappears after you hit the boss once, so that's not much help.) Perhaps start the player with 20 arrows when picking up the bow? (I'm assuming the boss is only vulnerable to the arrow...if that's not the case, then just disregard this paragraph!!)
Anyway, I really like the changes I see so far: starting with a larger wallet, not leaving the forest until you have the glove, moblins (mushrooms) that fire triple rocks/arrows, forcing the player to visit the zora king before entering the dam...great stuff. The new subscreen/pause-screen is awesome. Also, good call replacing that first HC piece in the beginning forest with a L2 shield (thus there's no longer a miss-able heart piece).
Now, onto the toad's nightmare / desert for me.

I just added another Dmap for extra caves, just in case. It's getting pretty crowded on some maps, while others are scarcely used. The flooded second floor of the Dmap is on its own map. The "switch activated" version of B-1 of Mirage Temple is also on its own map. What a waste. Actually I think that's pretty easy to fix.

Ahhhhh...the L3 sword is no longer where I remember it being located.
I might be mistaken, but in the train station, if you use your first two keys to unlock the way to the hookshot, I think you can get yourself keylocked from progressing any further.
Just to be sure, I double-checked against Melee Wizard's LP of the quest; in his run, you're only required to use one key to reach the hookshot (the locked door in the SW-most room of B1 with the 8-10 armos); in the updated version of the quest there's an additional key-rock in front of the hookshot chest.
For now I think I'm going to go "borrow" a key from the crypt to continue.

Yes it is.Ahhhhh...the L3 sword is no longer where I remember it being located.
It's now required to trace the entire "chain" of hints up to the final destination. Sort of. You can't just go right to it and get it. It won't be there if only the player knows where to look; Link himself has to know where to look in order for it to actually be there. It's a little ZQuest trick.
Ahh, now that's an interesting thing. I count 5 keys and 5 locks, though. In no particular order:I might be mistaken, but in the train station, if you use your first two keys to unlock the way to the hookshot, I think you can get yourself keylocked from progressing any further.

One key can be found by dropping down a pit in a room whose pit looks like a lockblock key hole.
One key can be found by walking through a south wall in the eastern part of B-1.
One key is attained by returning to F-1 and using the hookshot.
One very obvious key is a screen to the south of the boss key, on the northern side of B-1.
One other obvious key is gotten in the middle of B-1 simply by walking through a shutter to the north.
You don't even have to bomb it. The flame counts as a "Fire" enemy. You can just slash it.mmm.. I was on that trouble, but walking around (basement) I saw two lamps - flame was blue on one of them and yellow on the other one,, bomb the one with blue flame -- when you came back it will be open..!!

EDIT: Just fixed up a few visual bugs in the 'station. Alright.

Nice. If I remember correctly, I think the sequence goes:
Regarding the keys in the train station, if I'm understanding your descriptions correctly, I believe I picked up these two keys:
"One key can be found by dropping down a pit in a room whose pit looks like a lockblock key hole."
"One other obvious key is gotten in the middle of B-1 simply by walking through a shutter to the north."
I think the other 3 keys require pressing the first train button (which is behind a locked door).

Okay, so you were right. Thanks very much for pointing this out: Instead of taking a chance on what door is unlocked when, I have now blocked off the locked door on F-1 in the map room. It now lies beyond a large bed of spikes that is physically uncrossable without the hookshot, which, again, I was definitely able to get without even entering that room.
Hope you don't mind seeing your name in the credits; you and Ranagus for that bait script.
Damn skippy.
