What's the better version of Parallel Worlds? Every guy say a different thing xD Some say the old version is unplayable, others say that the new version doesn't have the magic, and so... Is it really worth playing compared to the stuff of ZC? Are there something unique about it? I need some motivation because I remember bad experiences with that game, but somewhat, it's very popular for some reason that I miss... .-.

Disclaimer: I have not played Parallel Worlds. I have heard A LOT from people who have though.

The original version is famous because of how insanely difficult it was. And not the good kind of difficult. It's possibly to get perma stuck, for example, because of some of the stupid stuff the game pulls. It's awful, and this it developed a following. There are dungeons designed just to tick off the player, so of course it got popular.

The remodel version fixes most of those issues. So what's left is basically a really generic game. It's not awful anymore, so there's no real reason to play it. It's just kinda there.

I've never seen anyone say they got perma stuck in Parallel Worlds, or at least any that willingly explained how they got stuck had a solution provided to them (Or I could see what they had to do). There are a few dungeons in the game that are very definitely built to piss you off/are best played with Save States and a few that seem really poorly made. The Dark World dungeons are generally insanely difficult if you enter the Dark World without getting a certain item in the Light World first, this can effectively soft-lock you out of progressing in the game simply because of how hard the combat can be.

There's also:

- Unclear where to go at the start of the game (What to acquire before entering Guardhouse or how you reach the Guardhouse)

- The game doesn't allow you to save your progress until you get your Sword & Shield which requires some pretty competent skill to acquire from the Guardhouse (First main objective of the game). This is very doable, but difficult.

- Unclear what to do to meet Sahasralah. The map indicates you have to visit him, instead of telling you where to go prior to trying to meet him. There is a single NPC that gives a hint on what to do while many others tell you to see Sahasralah, making it hard to realize the urgency of the hint that 1 NPC is telling you.

If you get stuck on where to go at the start of the game or how to complete the Guardhouse you can watch my playthrough here)

The normal Parallel Worlds was just an overall difficulty spike, but one that was actually fun to keep playing. There are unfair and annoying bits here and there, but it still felt enjoyable. Remodel takes a lot of what the original does and makes it easy, in some cases, so easy that it's boring. Some of the dungeons where the point was to explore and find stuff became SEVERLY linear and boring(Darunia's Cavern). A notorious change is Nabooru's hole, which, while it took the whole find the correct hole thing out, instead turned it into a series of winding paths through spikes(Watch Team'UDF's playthrough of it, he get's really mad at that dungeon).

If I were to recommend a version, I'd stick with the original.

There's some really good Super Mario World romhacks that are worth playing. I didn't really like Parallel Worlds because it seems inferior to ALTTP.

Super Mario World rom hacks are an interesting case, because there are tons of solid and decent hacks, but none of them stick with me in a memorable way. Maybe TSRPR, but still, I was never too crazy about it. (and maybe Brutal Mario, but because that was hyper ODD xD). I had more fun with SMB1 and SMB3 hacks. Extra Mario Bros is specially awesome, my favorite rom hack of all time.

Went back to some good old Dragon Warrior 3 on the GBC. I discovered a VERY cheap way to kill Metabbles. Basically, the idea is to have either the Hero or a Warrior wear the Blade Armor. If you have it available, cast Sap on the Blade Armor wearer so his/her defense drops to 0. If the Metabble hits him/her, it will damage in the 20s, but half of that is bounced back, killing it instantly. Really dirty, but meh. Who would have thought a debuff would be a game breaker against Metabbles to give yourself 40k EXP just like that? I was playing on an old solo Hero file and I used the Orochi Sword on myself (casts Defense which just halves the current DEF stat). Still just barely enough they kill themselves. My record was killing four of the metal cowards. HELLO over 160,000 EXP to my Hero!

The thing is, that's much more reliable than BeDragon, since at least for me, it seems they always run before the Mage/Sage gets his/her second turn to nuke them. Falcon Sword is iffy but gives two hits per turn while the Poison Needle is a guaranteed 1 damage with a small chance of instantly killing any non-boss enemy. So yeah, using Sap on a Blade Armor wearer is probably the most reliable way to kill Metabbles or in the case of a solitary Hero that's just about as headstrong and reckless as his father Ortega, having him use the Orochi Sword on himself produces positive results. I'm surprised that nobody thought of deliberately debuffing a character and abusing the damage reflection properties of the Blade Armor.

On another note, I feel inclined to do a Cleric -> Sage solo. The Cleric can get Healmore at level 14, which makes the Pyramid to Orochi easier than the Hero defensively. The only problem is the Cleric's mediocre attack power and can't make use of whips and boomerangs to help him/her out. As a Sage, physical attacks are much stronger, making the Sage pretty much the Hero without all the overpowered equipment but much better magic. Some fights would be much easier thanks to TwinHits, Upper, SpeedUp, earlier HealAll, access to both Sleep and Stopspell and every offensive spell in the game save for Zap and Thordain. Should be interesting getting to level 20 though with those restrictions. Debating about the Cleric's gender, since the Sexy personality is the best overall and is female only. Still, every solo Hero run I have done I used a male hero with the Solitary personality and didn't have too much trouble. Hmm...

I am so addicted to Halo 5 Guardians Campaign. So far, the campaign is awesome. A lot more fast paced compared to the previous Halo games. I'm enjoying Halo 5 a lot.

I've made a mistake. I've started playing The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, specifically the Afterbirth DLC. RIP other games I was playing.

I probably won't get it on any system besides PC. Main reason: I can put the old game's soundtrack back in. :heh:

I liked The Binding of Isaac but hated the Wrath of Lamb (or whatever) expansion pack. It may have added more complexity but it ruined the natural difficulty curve. Then I got The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and I like most of the game, I found the extra large rooms extremely boring to play through though which really hurt my experience with the game. After Birth looks to shake things up though, and it does look pretty interesting and the stuff they did to the large rooms makes them seem a fair bit less dull and the Greed mode looks interesting too.

I might wait until Christmas or some such and see if the DLC goes on sale.
