I'm sorry we don't have a <like> button here. I would very rarely use it, and I'm pretty darn sure I'd very quickly tire of receiving even a few likes, but I would certainly be happy to be able to use it for the purposes of using it on that post, DashSim. Certainly and happily.

*blushie* Have I mentioned how you are the absolute best person I have ever seen at giving compliments? If you were a pony and it were my responsibility to decide who gets what cutie marks, I would give you one representing giving compliments!

In all fairness I think the quintessential summation of life itself can be found in that video

I find that to be true with a lot of MLP:FiM content these days, if you know where to look,... or even if you just have to twist it a little. I still think it counts.

Also, Count the pony references.

Well, the Brony Documentary has officially been cancelled...
Kinda sucks, but I was questioning exactly what they could do with that.

I thought it was already made. O.o I've seen it. I believe it was canceled due to rampant piracy. Go figure. I think it's mostly the bonus content that was canceled.

In other, though similar news, Mane6's Fighting is Magic was killed off by Hasbro. There are already petitions in place to restore it, and Lauren Faust herself has offered to generate for them some completely new characters to work with.

I have such mixed feelings right now. like, what EXACTLY does hasbro have to gain by sniping non-profit fan projects? Are they trying to kill the show's popularity? ...well, we've kind of always known that was their goal. And as for the pirates, did they not expect that there would be a large amount of people getting illegal copies? I mean that's to be expected when you put out ANY sort of video content, or content in general for that matter. How could you not know people would pirate it? Cripes, it's like they've never dealt with anyone over the age of 8... I mean, I know hasbro hasn't before, but this is John DeLancie's project and Star Trek has been pirated to all get out...

My favorite thing is when people complain about people pirating it, when I assure you that 99% of them watched the episodes on youtube.

I can't say I'm part of the pony fandom, but I've seen this same situation many, many times in the past in which the copyright holder decides to put the kibosh on a fan project. And I have to admit, I hate seeing that happen.

Most people know of Square Enix and their tendency to shut down as many fan projects as they can under copyright grounds. There have been countless petitions to revive projects, and the fact of the matter is, it often tends to not work because, no matter how many people are against the shut down of a project, it's ultimately the holder's decision to let them continue or not. If they don't want to see it continue, they don't want to see it continue, and, regardless of the number or content of the signatures, they aren't going to continue.

Obviously I'm not the most unbiased example, because this is a forum where people post their Zelda fangames, but I hate seeing a fan work being shut down. When a fan pours their effort into something and takes the time to perfect it, to share what is essentially a love letter of what said person loves about the franchise, cancelling a project like that, which was made out of love for the holder's product and not intended to threaten said product or attack profit, just feels like getting slapped in the face by one of your biggest role models because you said you loved their work.

Even though I wasn't so much a fan of the game itself, that's why I love and admire Capcom due to the fact that, instead of cancelling a Megaman fangame that qualified in every part for being shut down via copyright infringement, they actually took the time to promote it and show it to the world. Regardless of opinion over the game itself, that's a company with a good heart.

The way I understand it (or rather the way it was explained to me), is the fact that Fighting is Magic was in the running at Evo placed it into the mainstream and made it a threat to Hasbro's ability to make a copyright claim. Further inaction would essentially be a license unto itself, on account of it simply being allowed to continue despite being a major production. They were in a situation where they had to either license it or kill it, because inaction in this case would mean if they took action in a similar case in the future, Fighting is Magic could be used against hasbro as an example of their inaction and argue that they were presenting a double standard. They HAD to either license it or shut it down, and since having the characters beating the tar out of each other doesn't quite fit MLP's public image, they couldn't in good conscience license it.

For the record, I'm not a legal expert. I don't know if any of this is legit. But I'm willing to buy it if it keeps the fandom from committing mass exodus for the time being.
