I liked the episode. I thought the ending was kind of anti-climactic, but I'm hoping with Discord as now a sort of anti-hero, future episodes will allow him to contribute to the plot. I've always been fond of his personality (and who isn't? He's Q in draconequus form, voice and all), and having him on the side of good is really refreshing, because it means we'll see more of him. It might take some time, like it did with Luna, but I'm hoping Discord will become an integral part of the cast.

Other than that, I was happy just seeing more of Discord's antics. I need an animated gif of Discord lounging on the couch while the house spins around him, pronto.

I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the newest episode. It felt like it was written by some 15 year old fan on tumblr (oh wait turns out it was), and I just feel like Discord could've been presented a lot better. I'm aware that it's like a 22 minute episode, but eh.

Another opinion:

Pinkie Pie. I used to love her character, now I dread when she shows up. It'll probably be annoying to hear this, but who cares- she was a much better character in Season 1. She was still fine in Season 2, and now she's the worst of the Mane 6 as of Season 3. I feel like she used to be someone with a lot more personality, someone that had more emotion beyond the "look how stupid and silly I can act ALL THE TIME!" persona. I think it was really apparent in the most recent episode, too. She's a lot more of a two-dimensional character lately. And because I feel like I have to say it, please note that you don't actually have to agree with me! Or maybe you like how she's turning out. This is my own opinion. Let me keep it without you trying to rip it out of my throat.

Teddy Antonio is the 15 year old. So I really just see this as a little fanfic that found its way into the show. A little bothersome after a couple weeks of no new episodes.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Ironically, the episode that I expected to expand her personality (A Friend in Deed), actually ended up being her most shallow appearance yet. Louder and more obnoxious than one would think possible, and completely unaware of her surroundings (contrast with Pinkie's first appearance - talkative, sure, but not overly intrusive). Pinkie has since become completely unbearable. I found her scenes in Wonderbolt Academy actually painful to watch.

I liked that episode simply because of the song. And then somebody remixed it and somebody added Space Jam and it became something truly magical:

Also, I guess all the episodes of MLP need to be taken off the air and prevented from being worked on ever again, because that dinner party was a total parody of Beauty and the Beast. Disney should sue.

This is one of the reasons I watch a My Little Pony show - because it contains critical lessons. Nobody is "better" than you. Everyone is a person on the inside, with their own struggles and personality. Our own interpersonal connections are what makes the world turn.

... even if it isn't true about Twilight. Whether it is or isn't, isn't the point. (I only made that part into a link because I'm a troll.)

Also, some more thoughts about ~the spoiler~ here... actually, more about reactions to it, and a little personal story:

Unexpected changes can be uncomfortable. There's a nice feeling of safety in having an interest in something you'd expect to be unchanging, and it's distressing when that very same thing experiences a significant change. And especially with something like Friendship is Magic, you'd expect to be safe and comfortable in it remaining the same forever. That comfort that comes with it remaining the same is taken for granted, and then something happens to upset that.

I'm a Stargate fan. Stargate experienced massive changes almost every single season for the final 8 or so years of the franchise being on television. Outrage at least once a season at some massive change happening to the series. A character is killed off! That character comes back after a season or two! One of the major characters becomes a background character! A new villain is introduced! A character from another Stargate show gets transplanted to a different one! A new Stargate show begins that goes for a different tone!

The fandom's sky fell about once a season, all was constantly doomed, and yet I can look back and see that the apocalypse never really came to pass. The changes happened. And then the world didn't end. The series would continue for a long time thereafter. Until the next upheaval, which would surely be the Worst Thing Ever this time. But it never really was. Everything remained okay; sometimes, the changes were even for the better! Unthinkable!

I don't begrudge anyone what makes them comfortable, nor do I begrudge them strong emotions towards that which disrupts that comfort. But I've been through this before, and I'll go through it again; if not on a future season of MLP, then on another show I'll get into. And something will change, and the sky will fall, and all will seem lost... and then somehow everything will be okay. I've been through this before. I've come out the other side, and I can speak to all from The Future, and my message is this: Everything will be okay. One comfort ends, but another can take its place, if you'll let it.


I don't know if any of that is relevant to PureZC; I wrote it more for myself, I guess. But it was important for me to write, and I hope if anyone else reads it, that my intentions are understood. I don't want to tell anyone they're wrong for how they feel, I just want to express that I've been through this before, and that everything always seems worse before it happens than it does in retrospect.
