I see that Attack on Titan is getting a English dub and its going to be shown on Toonami on adultswim. The only thing I can say is that I'm excited to watch the show in English!.

Well I made it through Cowboy Bebop, dunno why that took so long, and the movie as well. While definitely not one of the most amazing things ever as anyone says, I still found it highly enjoyable. The self-contained arcs are usually intriguing, interesting, and comedic, the cast is great, and the dubbing is phenomenal, but where it really shined was when Spike's personal nemesis shared the story; I really wished the show had more of that, but since they're bounty hunters, jumping around from story to story and planet to planet makes sense too. Good show indeed, and I'm fairly certain it might have my new favorite ending theme.

And now, for a re-viewing of Kill la Kill. Log Horizon possibly as I do so or afterward. :heh:

Going to watch an anime that I missed out in in the past Eureka Seven. I hope it's good. JYB and Stephanie Sheh duo.

Okay, I had a small question about Egnlish Dub's in Anime. I was watching Bleach English dub because I didn't want to read subtitles, but when my friend found out he got mad at me for doing so, saying that's not right. What exactly is wrong with the English dub besides it changing what the characters say a tiny bit to match their mouth. I don't find anything bad about it, but a lot of anime fans do. Does it take away anything from the anime? Pokemon did this and no one gave a crap. Or at least, so I think.

What's wrong with dubs? Well, nothing. Purists will find anything to complain about. The only time they have a case is when the English acting is downright bland or terrible and the translation gets skewed or stupidly censored. I have to admit I tend to gravitate more toward the original Japanese due to a few... less-than-satisfying run-ins with dubs lately, but that doesn't mean all dubs are bad or that dub automatically means bad. Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop are two very, very fine dubs, for instance, among a few others.

Personally I would just research a show first, see if there's any legitimate backlash against a dub, such as story changes that make no sense, change the spirit of the show, or induce plot holes; poorly-written dialogue; whether or not the acting is terrible; and stuff like that. And by bad dialogue I don't mean a few goofy lines mixed in with what is otherwise good dialogue, I mean downright awful script writing. That's what I tend to do recently, and if feedback for a certain dub is good, I'll go for it over the sub, otherwise I'll go for the original Japanese. I have no problem reading the dialogue but sometimes it's nice not to have to keep my attention glued to the show sometimes. :heh:

It really depends on the series, to be honest.  There's some things that American voice actors can be better at, and there's some things that Japanese voice actors are better at.  In some series for example, the American voice actors just fit perfectly.  Cowboy Bebop and Baccano are two the come to mind.  However, I've noticed that even in series where the voice actors fit, sometimes American voice actors aren't quite as good at nailing emotional bits.  I think, for the most part, Japanese voice actors have that down pat really well.  Plus, I feel like American dubbing can be bad about putting popular voice actors in roles they don't quite fit well.  I know a long time ago Vic Mignogna was super popular and was in tons of stuff... but he pretty much only has one voice.  So no matter what, he sounded the same, even if the characters were different.  Although, that's not to say that similar issues don't happen in Japan.  There some voice actors that are hugely popular that are in tons of series, and they sound the same each time.

I guess that big rambling mess there is pretty much a "it depends" statement.  Sometimes the dub can be better, sometimes the sub can be better.  Regardless, dubbing has gotten way better over the years.  It used to be pretty bad, and I feel like it still holds a bit of a stigma from a long time ago.  Plus, I feel like a lot of people listen to one or another, then get used to it.  So, when they hear it differently from what they're used to, it's hard to adjust.  For example, I watched the original FMA dubbed, and when I heard the subs, it seemed very weird.  Then, I watched FMA:Brotherhood subbed, so when I heard it dubbed, it seemed weird.  That's despite the fact that a lot of the main voice actors were the same both in Japan and in the US.  People just get accustomed to what they normally encounter, and what's unique is automatically bad to them.

If there's one thing to complain about dubbing it's repetition. Can you name me an anime dubbed by Funimation that does not have Colleen Clickenbeard, Monica Rial, and Jamie Marchi in it? As much as like these voiceovers, I would love to see brand new English voice actors step up to the plate and bring some new, good English dubbing to the table. That goes the same for video games as well. Do we really need to hear Johnny Yong Bosch's voice for the 10 millionth time?

Or at the very least hire more actors who know how to do different voices.

Attack on Titan doesn't have the first two, and the third plays a background character who's, to my knowledge, is never named in the show and has about 10 lines total. So there you go.

As far as dubs go, honestly, the people who hate them all are generally people who feel the need to be elitist about something. The only case I can think of where the dub is so terrible the sub should be watched instead is Yugioh, where 4kids edited out basically every death and instance of violence. Otherwise, really, maybe you've heard the voice actor before, but at least you can understand what they're saying without having to glue your eyes to the bottom of the screen.

I'm watching 2x2=Shinobuden (Ninja Nonsense) and it's probably one of the most perverted animes I've watched along with Highschool of Thr Dead(I like them both :))

By the end of the day, elitist is #1 characteristic of a dubhater. They think reading text makes them so special and get easily frustrated when one prefers dubs.

I'm close to the end of Psycho Pass. I think I found me a new anime to add to my list of favorite animes of all time.

Now, now, let's be fair.

There ARE indeed some terribad dubs out there. Not all of them are bad, and a lot of them IMO, are quite good. Just know that there's a few Rotten apples in the field here and there. Just a thought.

On a completely unrelated note, I've been into No Game No Life. New show for Spring season. Wheeeeeeee.

When I said I was gonna rewatch Kill la Kill, I didn't expect I'd have done it in less than 48 hours. Yep, definitely one of my favorite anime of all-time. Looking back I did kind of notice some things in the beginning two episodes that seemed slightly off but I forget what they were, probably minor stuff, but otherwise it held together better the second time around.

Anyway, I've started Log Horizon and I fear I'm gonna have the Cowboy Bebop problem of watching it too slowly. I'm through episode four and I enjoy it so far, the characters and dialogue and even the action is leagues better than Sword Art Online. I think this'll make up for that travesty nicely. The animation in SAO was better I think, but Log Horizon's still gorgeous. Only four episodes in so I can't really make too much of a judgment, but it's still far more consistent in just those four episodes than SAO was through its first four episodes. :heh:

Also apparently this was an impressive rundown of a certain late-series plot point in Evangelion so I thought it was worth sharing:

Neon Genesis Evangelion episode 24 spoilers

Three more episodes of Psycho Pass left. Now to decide whether to watch SAO or Eureka Seven after this.

Psycho Pass completed. Remarkable anime overall. I say that because if I was so hooked that I watched 7 episodes back to back, then I know that I was watching an amazing show. Everything about it is just amazing. The characters, the story about Sibil, the setting, and the action were all top notch IMO. And I have to say, I wasn't expecting this anime to be so bloody and gruesome.

I mean...

Spoiler

I recommend this anime to a mature audience. I can't wait for Season 2 coming in October.

My next 2 animes to watch on my list are SAO and Euruka Seven. I think I'm more interested in Eureka Seven though.
