Started Tropical Freeze anew last night at last and made it through world three. It's a very solid game, even though it, like Returns, feels more like its own thing than it does a DKC game. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it helps it feel like less of a rehash, and there's still plenty of SNES DKC elements, although it certainly isn't stingy with the extra lives... it's still a decent challenge, just like the SNES games, but you're not likely gonna get a game over here.

Returns felt a lot more like SNES DKC, but both games are really fun, even if Returns was longer (I think). My favourite part in tropical freeze were the bosses.

There's that one world though, that has a really weird setting. The juicy jungle.

Also I kind of wish Bramble Scramble had been more like the bramble levels of DKC2, maybe there's still time. It's still a solid platformer, but it's clear that it's trying to be its own thing with a touch of DKC flavor. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

If I remember correctly, there was a level with bramble aesthetics but NOT the bramble music. :o

I'm starting Earthbound. I want to see why this game has become such a cult-classic.

I finished the first game in the series (Mother 1) not too long ago...

And I LOVED IT. Why didn't I do this sooner?!

Trust me, if you love RPGs, you'll love Earthbound. :)

Yep, that would be the Bramble Scramble I mentioned, sharing a name with a DKC2 level, only they're quite different and don't use the music. Would have been nice if it had.

Just finished playing through Another Metroid 2 Remake (Am2R)'s 1.4 Demo. The 1.41 demo was released while I was LP'ing it, though all it added was a slightly updated soundtrack.

Overall, still pretty good! Definitely got my Metroid fix from it.~

Picked up Life is Strange from the Steam Sale. So far I'm liking it. It kinda feels like a Telltale title mixed with Braid's time traveling mechanics.

Finished Twilight Princess. It's an overall solid Zelda game. My only problem is the graphics have not aged well and I feel as if the story is just Midna and Zant's conflict with Zelda thrown in. It worked in some places, but in others it didn't. Now I am up to date with (most) Zelda games. Ones that I care for anyway. Now time for Earthbound.

Finished Tropical Freeze. And I had a hell of a good time. It's not entirely perfect, I feel that on rare occasion—

*TS goes blank for a moment, as he considers that word, "Rare," and thinks of the company that originally produced the Donkey Kong Country games, and their long departure from Nintendo... Shaking his head, he collects himself and continues.*

—the controls seem slightly unresponsive, choosing not to do what I ask it to. Such as not doing a roll attack when I want it/doing a rolling attack when I don't want it. Also, I was not a fan of Returns' rocket barrels, so I wasn't too pleased to see them back; I'm just not fond of the controls, they don't give me as much control as I'd come to expect from a mode of travel in a DKC game. Also, the hitbox on the final boss seems a little weird, and a certain variation of one of his attacks I'm not fond of... And the bird boss's fight seemed to drag on a bit, to be honest.

But apart from all that, we got a fantastic game here. Again, it does its own thing more than it does try to be like the SNES games, but it's still a ton of fun, with great platforming perils and design. Also music, the music is fantastic. It's great that there's a ton of variety of songs, but some songs I wish played more often, like the Stickerbrush Symphony remix and Seashore War. At least we got to hear Homecoming Hijinx plenty of times, that song's great.

Honestly I think this is my second-favorite DKC game, behind the first one. DKC2 follows, then DKCR. Now that just leaves DKC3...

Next up, The Wind Waker.

Sadly, I haven't had much time for games, recently.

I've been taking EMT classes at my local college, and it's been occupying most of my time.  I still haven't beaten Majora's Mask 3D because of it.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

Yeah, it just plain sucks.  I’ve seen games suck before, but this is the suckiest bunch of levels and gameplay that ever sucked.

Minipoint for the one who knows the reference.

Though not playing them as of this moment, I'll be flying out to a friend's house for about two weeks. Both of us have games we're going to let each other experience for the very first time. For me, it'll be the Mass Effect series, and for him it'll be Skies of Arcadia Legends. Among those two, we'll likely be playing Splatoon and other assorted games.

To bide my time until then, I'll just be playing Smite (I know not everyone loves MOBA's, but this one actually feels fun to play most of the time).

I finally got the Xbox ONE today. Now I have all three 8th gen consoles.

I'm playing through the Halo Master Chief Collection that came with the system. What more can I say about this game other than it's all 4 Halo games running at 1080p/60fps. I'm especially excited for Halo 2. I never played that game before.

I think I should take TS's advice and get the Xbox ONE version of Shovel Knight. Battletoads anyone? :D

GET THEM TOADS DAMMIT, GET 'EM

er I mean

I started Wind Waker. This is gonna be good. Also uh, I went to an antique outlet today with my dad for Father's Day and I found some guys selling NES and SNES games... I joked with them that they were making me feel old. They admitted that it was kind of pushing it. Then I walked away with StarTropics and DKC2 cuz they were priced well. :heh:

DKC2 works great. StarTropics I haven't gotten to run yet, but slow progress has been made; it started with alternating between on and off, went to loading a gray screen, then to a black screen. That's technically progress. :tard:

The black/gray/black/gray flashing when trying to play a NES game is caused by the DRM circuitry. You can mod your NES console to effectively disable it/render it redundant. How it works is official cartridges have a few extra pins on them that connect to the DRM chip when the cartridge is inserted in to the console, the connection must be perfect and constant, any interruption will cause the DRM circuit to reset the console. The other pins, that transfer game data from the cartridge to the console, don't have to provide a perfect, constant connection to the same degree as the pins that handle the DRM.

A (I believe) simple mod can mitigate the DRM process and greatly improve your chances of being able to insert any game, turn the console on and have the game immediately work, no fiddling about, blowing in cartridges, putting a cartridge in "just right" or cleaning the connector with isopropyl alcohol whipes etc.

Picked up Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1 when it was cheap during the Summer Sale. My younger siblings wanted to try it out first, so I ended up watching the cutscenes and dialogue up until about halfway through the first cave about twice before I even got a turn to play. Finally got to play it for myself, and the game glitched up in the same cave, where one of the enemies had their turn come up but refused to act, thus preventing the game from advancing. I hadn't saved at all yet, since I had been doing so well and didn't feel that I needed to just yet. So, it looks like now I'm going to have to re-play this same part and sit through this (albeit with the fast-forward toggle turned on, thank God!) for a fourth time now.

I managed to get the StarTropics cart to work and played through the first two chapters. Controls are a little stiff, and turning is a bit of a pain because of it; you don't immediately start walking in the direction you push, but turn first, and there's a brief enough delay between turning and walking that it can get annoying, especially when navigating narrow passages. Also the jumping mechanic is alright: There are little tiles that you can jump on, and sometimes they trigger switches, but other times they're just there as platforms. But what I don't get is, when there are two tiles next to each other, you can't just walk over onto that tile, or even off the tile if it's next to regular ground; you have to jump to the adjacent tile or off of said tile. It doesn't really make much sense.

But otherwise the game's structure is pretty alright, it's quite clearly Zelda-esque, with nice music and the combat mechanics aren't bad. I can see why it has a cult following so far.
