What's up ahead? This can't possibly be the North Pole!

 

Sorta still a mock up screen. But hey, look, a passive subscreen! Amazing! But what's the Triforce emblem for? It's nothing fancy... really. Just to let the player know this spot is a continue point thanks to FFCs. Also I know the item gauge has been a hit or miss for some, but I love it, and I am adding a new twist to it. Though again, nothing fancy, but it certainly will stop abuse until you explore and earn the ability to abuse the meter. :P

 

That's all for now! Next up is the active (and minimap graphics...).

 

EDIT: I missed an important detail! I want to clarify the item gauge only applies to items that use ammunition. Items such as, for example, the hammer will in theory NOT use the item gauge.

I made a really mean Cyclops Robot enemy in "Mike's Fun House". Moosh animated the robot for me.

Still working on my custom enemy tiles... they are not coming out as good as i like. I may have to look up some other sprites to get a template to help me make it... but I'm hoping it won't come to that.
I also just realised I have to count out the heart pieces I have scattered around as I forgot I changed some dungeon upgrade items into heart pieces. I'll be doing that today and planning out where to have the last ones hidden. I might have a mini-game/mini-dungeon added in which will be for getting some, which would be good to have added in to the second town I think, or perhaps have it as a hidden cave somewhere. (I'm definitely having a mini-dungeon in the second town, though I haven't decided if it is going to be for item upgrades or for heart-pieces/life upgrade)

Decided my final weapon lineup for my 2-week contest quest, with all of them (barring one) implemented. Also got the basic abilities for a "class" of enemies up and running.

I've made and placed some new enemies, made a couple of interiors, tested a bit, some design changes... Just doing some finishing touches on areas. After a half year hiatus.

This guy to the left just gave me some sunglasses, now Nargad is all cool! (That's in Super Mario Sunshine? Coincidence I think not!)

I'm sure you guys will love this area. It's a colorful swamp! The toxic gas damages you when you walk through it. And for the music I picked Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by The Beatles, but I edited the track to sound really, really hypnotizing and dim. This may be my personal favorite area. 

 

The flowery guys are one of the new enemies. They are really fast, shoot (weak) magic and have low health, but their speed still makes them dangerous. The sprite is from the Mac et Blue tileset.

 

The second new enemy visible is a ghast (the enemy in the center of the screen). It flies around dealing quite some damage, being only vulnerable to fire, so practically it's invincible till you get the candle. It was inspired by ghasts from RuneScape.

Nearby Hydrill Swamp lies the war outpost of King Gergely, the ruler of the Molten Spire. It was quickly built to repel Rebonite attacks and to distract them from the Molten Spire, which is under siege. When you come back later, the guard will be nicer and let you in.

 

Nargad's Trail: Crystal Crusades is like this many times. Past level 1 you can almost go anywhere on the map, past level 5 you can explore the entire overworld already. Exploration is a key factor and gets rewarded with more money, more experiences and best of all: Heart Container Pieces!!! Luckily the quest will be about 8 full overworld maps(excluding), which I finished 6 of already.

Now that's always a real success feeling, right Yloh?

 

Today (actually last night), I worked on making an overworld more improved. Adding some screens, adding some shortcuts, npc's, houses, enemies, secrets, all that stuff. This afternoon I might finish it, making NTCC more playable, which is my main focus right now.

Haven't quite gotten around to the "in ZC" part just yet, but recently I've finally gotten to planning out how the final boss in my quest is going to work, and it's looking like I might actually be able to pull off a decently impressive boss without learning how to script after all. XD

 

As far as "actually in ZC" goes, I fiddled around with Patras a bit, replacing the overpowered default level 2 and level 3 Patras that I would never actually use in my quest with modified versions of the regular "big circle" and "oval" versions (7 outer eyes rather than 8, but each has a little more HP than a standard Patra's eyes and the center eye shoots at you), and also drew up some graphics for them since Level 9 in my quest won't be having Patras in it but a new enemy that mostly behaves like one instead.  Also found out that the default Din's Fire sound effect used as a boss roar is pretty neat.
