The only pandering MLP did initially was to children of the 90s, and that was mostly for the benefit of the creators so they could make the show without hating themselves for bringing an abomination into the world. Look at their staff - most of their writers, animators and VAs have MASSIVE street creds for some of the most brilliant and beloved cartoons the 90s and early 2000s had to offer. They were destined for success not because they were implicitly trying to find an older market, but because they were trying to entertain kids while making it tolerable for adults. By doing so they unknowingly allowed millions of adults to seek solace in reclaiming their childhood.
But again, it was just a weird thing that happened. You can't fake this s***. This right here is real, and that care bears reboot is just posing. I'm putting my money on it's failure. I doubt it'll have the wit, ambition or forethought that keeps MLP near and dear to our hearts. We already know it doesn't have the art quality to measure up.
But that's not to say I won't give it a fair shot. MLP taught me not to judge anything until I've given it a chance.
