I...I really hate it when marketing people try to understand what's "hip".
Memetic spread isn't something you can just create on a whim.

Oh lookie what the Hub is trying to do now...

This genuinely disturbs me. You'd think it wouldn't by now. I've known for years now that marketing execs generally don't understand their core audiences well, and yet every time something like this happens, I still am mortified.
I mean. Damn. Belly-Bros. Really.

I say that before the trailer loaded.
After watching it just now, I think It'll be a good long while before I bother to remember a link to it and go find it.
Now if you give Winnie the Pooh a gatling gun.... That I would watch.

Here's a hint, Hasbro: it's not the half-assed CGI. You're confusing fanbases now, we're talking about MLP, not Strawberry Shortcake.
You want a reboot that will be memorable? Get writers that will make the dialogue flow as though it's real, get artists who understand the subtle simplicity of cartoon animation, and know what parts should be focused on and what parts should be left deliberately ambiguous. And gets some voice actors who know what the F*** they're doing.
Now granted, I can't be sure how some of these will be handled, and I'll definitely keep an open mind while I watch the pilot. But I'm allowed to be skeptical - the beautiful part about MLP's cult following is that it happened by accident. It was supposed to be good, yes, but the older audience wasn't at all deliberate. And that's the thing Hasbro is missing - you can't make something like this happen on purpose. You can't re-create those circumstances. Friendship is Magic was the product of hard work and luck, not cheap, flashy gimmicks and the intention of pandering to older audiences.

I really would LOVE to believe that the animation quality is among the top reasons this show has become so popular, but then I see youtube videos featuring this monstrosity and I see the views and likes and lose all faith in humanity.

Why is it that this interests me so? I'm pretty sure that I'm drawn toward the active attempt at equalization for those who are too targeted and victimized to speak for themselves, yet are generalized to the point where they ordinarily wouldn't even be defendable.

I'm willing to give Battleship a fair chance, but this is just shameless.
I'm also sick of CG animation. Pixar and Jimmy Neutron are cool for being the first to do it in feature length and series, respectively... But it's just overused these days. You know what I want to see more of? Traditional animation! Heck, even Flash takes more work than CG animation.

I don't understand why people claim CG animation takes less work than Flash. They're the same thing except one is in 3D.
Unless you're talking about the old Disney frame by frame animation that nobody does anymore, I don't understand where you got this notion that CG animation is easy.

I think he meant that particular style of CG animation. It's the really cheap style that you see in all cartoons nowadays. There's the really well-planned style that was prominent in Pixar Films, Advent Children Jimmy Neutron, and Code Lyoko. And then there's the style in this Care Bears reboot, which seems far more reminiscent of the unbearable (lolpun) animation in the reboot of Strawberry Shortcake and Hot Wheels Battle Force.

The thing about 3D is that it takes a little longer to make the models compared to symbols in Flash... maybe. But it's pretty easy to animate via motion-capture and when you have a third dimension to work with.
Flash on the other hand... Sure you can reuse symbols and animations and there's even skeletons these days, but if you've ever worked with Flash, you know how finicky shape tweens are- which are a must to have quality animation. And the lack of a third dimension can make doing certain things a little more challenging.
There are just more corners that can be cut with 3D animation.
