Not a fan of the rental shop... If there's no way to permanently get the items, I'm going to be very disappointed too. Sounds like this game is going to be really easy too if you can just rent whatever you need instead of really earning it by going through puzzles and whatnot.

Hmm ... I'm torn. I do enjoy non-linearity, but the idea of renting items seems so mundane. I'm always a little bugged when people go, "The series usually does this, so we're going to do THIS! Because people totally don't love the series because of the way it IS!"
I hope there are still dungeon items. He keeps using words like "most," and I appreciate the fact he says you can eventually purchase the items. It could be interesting ... Just not a fan of needless innovation when I love the gameplay the series has. My biggest disappointments in the Zelda series are those where they've changed something big about how it plays ... But oddly enough, Majora's Mask does that, and it's my favorite of them all. So, we'll see.

I don't think the difficulty of Zelda is solely defined by how you get an item. It's not like it prevents them from making well designed puzzles and enemies. If anything, finding the key item of a dungeon makes it easier usually, because suddenly you realize that every puzzle in the dungeon will revolve around this item, because that's how they make the item special to where you find it. If they're getting away from that, it could very much rely more on the player's intuition of which items they decided to take and how to use them best.
Also, I think it'd be fair to give it a chance. Maybe the fans of the series are comfortable with the same general design that Zelda has had, but what about the people making it? What about if the developers actually wanted to try something new within their series? I mean, imagine Ocarina of Time hadn't happened because fans had been so adamantly against Nintendo making a 3D game in a series of top-down 2D games. And it's funny, because we always tell questmakers to design quests based on them having fun making it, rather than caring too much about what other people want. But then it becomes hypocritical when you're against Nintendo doing that exact thing.
Note that I'm not saying that being skeptical is wrong. I'm just saying... Green Eggs and Ham. Change can be bad, but it can also be good. Being open-minded doesn't mean your brain will fall out. ![]()
Anyway, have some new official artwork!!! http://zeldanime.tum...ew-link-between

I guess Russ brings up a point in the idea of not knowing what items you may need to bring to a dungeon, but other than that I don't think there's really a problem anymore. I'm kind of eased into it. I'm just getting more and more psyched because of all this new content we keep seeing, and that windmill was definitely a new location. And those characters too, and I get the feeling this is just going to be one really great game. Gotta calm myself down and avoid hype, but I really really want this game now. D:

I love the concept art ... One of them appears to be a Gerudo witch. Unless that's a guy, in which case, hello Kefka!

Reminds me of Twinrova. Also, that staff/wand's energy reminds me a lot of the swirling colors of when Link goes between worlds.

Am I the only one who cares about Link's new voice? ![]()
Edit!: Found this picture.
I noticed the clothes the man is wearing resemble the clothes Link wore in that screenshot in the shop. Maybe they're passed down or something?
Also look how freaking cute Link is! I'm in love, you guys. I'm in love with this entire game!!

Small update but thought it was worth bringing up.

Basically, the songs aren't made with a real orchestra after all, which is in a minor sense disappointing, but the songs still sound like they were made with real orchestra so that's not a big deal. Actually kind of impressive that they had us all fooled.
So, its like the music I make when I orchestrate?

That's fine. There's a lot you can do with samples.
I am curious about this "Hilda" character. In the new Nintendo Direct, she appeared for a second, looking like Zelda with black hair. I really am looking forward to this game, and delving into the Dark World once again.

I'm really trying to be open-minded, but I have so many problems with the idea of the rental shop. A huge part of the joy I get out of Zelda games comes from exploration, and a big part of that is the feeling of "What kind of treasure will I find here?" Exploring the dungeons is a delight when I encounter seemingly unsolvable puzzles, only to have a wonderful 'Ah ha!" moment when I get a creative dungeon item that suddenly makes the impossible possible. Not only does this make exploration more fun when I don't know what items I'll discover, but it keeps the items themselves a mystery. Seeing everything in this rental shop, I just go ... "Oh. They have the hoookshot. And the fire rod. And the ice rod. And that leaf-wind thing." The items feel like boring, everyday tools, rather than secret artifacts tucked away in the depths of an unexplored temple. The leaf item probably would have been a fun discovery if I hand't known it was coming, but by showing all these items available from the start ... I do hope that some items remain hidden collectibles not available from the shop.
It's not anything that's going to completely destroy the game for me. I plan to buy and enjoy it, and there's a lot of things that appeal to me here. But when I think of the way they're "breaking Zelda conventions" here, I feel like this particular convention is one I really love about the series.

Well, it also seems that some items won't be available from the start anyway, so I guess some of that feeling will remain? I guess we'll see.

I'm not even sure if they said every single item will be found in the rental shop. They didn't, did they?

Well, why start a debate whether the rental shop is going be good or bad. Heck, I mean come on, a change isn't that bad every now and then that it's executed well
. Let's wait till the game releases and try it out, maybe it would turn out to be a good idea
(or a bad one also, 50 - 50 chances).
For now, let me mention something, as Scootaloo mentioned, by god, finally we get to see a "hopefully" Dark Zelda, or "Hilda" as mentioned in the video, she seems evil, or somehow mysterious, (notice Link's battle stance with her). Also, I haven't seen anybody mention this, but look at this curious pic:

Any ideas?
EDIT: Pic is not mine, saw it in Zeldadungeon.com

I'm not trying to start a debate, just express my feelings. I find it odd that everyone keeps saying "give it a chance, it might be good," when I've made a point of saying that in every one of my posts. I just hope the tradeoff introduces some great new stuff so it doesn't just feel like a loss to those who like the old style.

Why does everyone keep bringing up that stupid Majora's Mask? Its obviously a cameo. Get over it.
