It seems that Terraria is on hiatus. The reason for this hiatus, however, is more reasonable than his previous hiatuses. Redigit's having another kid.

A sandbox game stops being fun when enemies have the ability to wreck your intricate creations like that. It spawned in my herb farm.

Discovered clowns. I quit.

Luckily they are rare. They only appear sometimes on blood moons during hardmode. The best way to avoid your stuff getting wrecked is to stay away from your home during that time. Go spelunking or whatever, and don't die while doing so.

Blood moons are very difficult in early hardmode. Like Nathaniel suggested, your survival rate will be generously increased if you stay underground during a blood moon.

Thank god that they aren't as common as the Creepers in Minecraft. Like what the others have said, they appear on HM bloodmoons. Their spawn rates are so low that you only get one or two per bloodmoon (on that subject, where the heck did the Groom and Pinky go?
Tips on how to prevent them from wrecking your constructions:
- Like what the others have said, go underground. They shouldn't be around to wreck your stuff there.
- Put up a barricade made from Dungeon Brick or any ore that withstands bombs (Cobalt/Mythrill/etc.., NOT the brick versions of them) around your structures.
- If possible, install active stone blocks and make sure that the tunnels are too small for them to spawn in, and leave them active whenever you leave your home.
I never had much trouble with Clowns, although I was shocked when I found out they throw bombs...

Wait. How the hell do you have 70 defense, but didn't have hallowed armor yet?
I had adamantite melee helm, hallowed chest piece, adamantite feets, all trinkets reforged for +4 defense and was loaded up with ironskin potions. I now have the hallowed helm from beating the Twins.

I don't know if I ever had 70 defense either, but at the same time, I don't know if I have ever checked while under the effects of Ironskin potion.
I'm also the kind of person who likes having everything on one map. The only exception to that might be for resources that become very hard to get once you have been in hardmode for a long while, due to certain biomes being eliminated due to the spread of both hallow and corruption. The first that comes to mind is shark fins, as it seems that sharks don't spawn in corrupt or hallowed oceans. They really should change that in the next update, whenever that is. Also, in corrupt or hallowed surfaces, there aren't nearly as many demon eyes, and the large ones, if I recall, don't drop lenses. And you need those to craft the mechanical eye. Otherwise, it would be a good idea to collect plenty of lenses before either hardmode or before you spread hallow over much of the surface.

It's only the custom fan-mods that are going strong now, thanks to tConfig.
