So I've recently got Children of Mana, and I must say that while it does have enjoyable elements to it sofar, it's not anywhere near as good as Sword of Mana at this point of time. That being said I haven't played all too much of it.

In other news I'm still enjoying Rune Factory 4. I've completed the 4th arc of the game and ended up being op'd for the last bit... Even now I'm quite a bit stronger than I should be for the area I'm supposed to be in, which is to be expected when you material gather alot from monster drops :P

Made a 3rd attempt at Mario & Luigi Dream Team, giving up again after an hour and a half. Previous attempt I lasted 11 hours before giving up.

Even though I skipped most dialog and chose No when asked if I wanted to participate in a tutorial, it still took forever to progress anywhere. It took half an hour to reach the castle at the start of the game and most of that time was spent being force fed unskippable fights to "teach you how to fight", none of these fights are classed as tutorials so I can't skip them. There is both dialog during the fights and there is dialog between the fights.

It took another half an hour to get the Pillow and return to the castle to use it and most of that time was spent dealing with forced fights and puzzles to teach you basic shit, with dialog between the puzzles.

It took a half hour to complete the first dream world which consisted of STILL MORE GOD DAMN BASICS SHIT (The boss at the end was alright).

I give up on the game, it's just bad. My memory of the time I spent 11 hours on the thing is of me being frustrated at non-stop tutorials the entire time or being force fed explanations of shit and never, ever being given an opportunity to discover anything for myself. I also recall it constantly introducing new gameplay mechanics and then just never using them again once you complete the tutorial stuff/initial area that involves the mechanic.

My old 11 hour playthrough ended at a point where I needed to reach some mount jejeje or whatever, the v1.1 patch for the game fixed a bug involving that area.

Also, it doesn't help that all of the animations seem to be designed for a 60FPS frame rate yet the game runs at 30FPS, it makes all the animations for everything that does animate look awful (Everything seems to be missing half their animation frames instead of having animations appropriate for the low FPS). The poor graphics could be somewhat attributed to the game being designed with the 3D aspect in mind. It also makes timing button presses during fights harder than previous games in the series, which all ran at 60FPS.

Galaxy 2: I'm into world three, so far it's a pretty fun game, with a lot of clever and creative platforming. It kinda feels a bit emptier than the first game though; the galaxies seem smaller and less thought-out, and it seems there are a ton of them, as opposed to the lovingly-crafted galaxies of the first game with more stars to find in them. That's not to say Galaxy 2 isn't still fun, it certainly is, but so far I feel like its predecessor overall did a better job. Plenty of time for that opinion to change, though.

Oracle of Ages: Last I left off, I beat Mermaid's Cave, which is a fantastic dungeon still. However it's been a little while, I have no clue why I haven't been going strong into this game. Maybe I'm just stalling because Jabu-Jabu is next... :heh:

Oceanhorn: I think I'm near the end, and if so, it's a lot shorter than I expected, but then again, I'm not sure what I should've expected from a game that was originally made for iOS. I'll probably wrap it up tomorrow or sooner, but I quite enjoyed it; yes, it's a Zelda clone in many ways, but what's wrong with that? It's still great gameplay, one I think any Zelda fan should try. It's quite fun, though the sailing is even more restrictive than in Phantom Hourglass.

Galaxy 2 was designed like a 2D Mario, the point is to go to the goal. Galaxy 1 is like Mario 64. Galaxy 2 galaxies are simpler, but they are way more unique and there are a ton more of galaxies. Every star in Galaxy 2 is unique, Galaxy 1 has a ton of filler stars. Btw, it gets more and more epic from World 3 onwards...

It just strikes me as an odd design choice to make a sequel to a game that was designed more in line with Mario 64 and Sunshine and make that sequel more like Mario games of ages past. Now I won't disagree, Galaxy had its filler, and that's one of the main reasons I prefer 64 and Sunshine over Galaxy (though to be fair, Sunshine had plenty of arbitrary filler with those godawful blue coins...), so if Galaxy 2 has less filler, well, that's good! Filler is also one of my main reasons for not liking 3D Land and 3D World as much as other games... also the level designs of those games are nowhere near as creative and imaginative as past games.

Galaxy 2 is certainly immensely imaginative though, and that's a huge appeal of the Galaxy series to me. If there's even a single drop left of imagination in the tank, I'd love a Galaxy 3 very, very much.

Started New Super Mario Bros. 2, which I got off of Club Nintendo as a Platinum reward, since the rewards in general were kind of underwhelming... I was waffling between it and Yoshi's New Island, but the reviews of the latter were giving me second thoughts so I got NSMB2 instead. After beating the world, I can safely say that it's more good Mario so far. Nothing particularly new or exciting, but for free, I'll take another trip through various familiar-themed worlds with that polished platforming we've come to enjoy since the 8-bit days.

Got a little further in Ages, feeling a little stupid during the Zora quest; I must have already had a Magic Potion at that point when I played it in the past, because I was stumped for a bit in this round, wondering where the hell this potion was... forgot it meant the one that revives you on death, and I hadn't bought one at all in this playthrough so far. I entered Jabu-Jabu's mouth, but... I stopped there. I went to shower after I did so and when I got back I got cold feet. :heh:

Speaking of Zelda games, I finished Oceanhorn, and it's quite good; the 8/10 reviews you see floating around the internet are pretty much accurate I'd say. I wrote a Steam review, but long story short, it's a very fun Zelda-like game with only a couple minor flaws that's over maybe a bit too soon. Definitely recommend it.

I installed a new dedicated 1TB gaming hard drive for my PC. And to start it off, I'm playing Oceanhorn. I'm so glad I did not get the iPad version. This is all Robin and TS's fault that I got this game! This game feels like ALBW meets WindWaker so far.

I replayed Super Metroid some days ago, to discover that it wasn't as great as I remember. I can't stand that game now. Too easy, the combat is boring and is very linear for a supposedly "exploration game". Metroid 1 FTW.

Also, I finally went into the unreleased Star Fox 2 on the Snes. It's all about All-Range mode, it has some good stuff and surprises. It's not Star Fox 1, but is quite amazing for a "beta". The classic Star Fox gameplay is more appealing to me, but this game worth a visit. I finished it in Normal and Hard in my first try, it was a walk in the park... I hope Expert Mode can deliver all the gameplay potential. I will try it tomorrow.

I started Ultima IV, this game blows my mind. It's so wonderfully made with minimal resources. But I don't know if I'm good enough to become the Avatar.... I'm still experimenting, I don't have experience with western RPGs.

Well, my Ultimate Ironman just used up the last of his bolts for 41 Ranged, so after selling a few things, I'm back down to an almost completely empty inventory. All he's carrying:

-33k coins

-Mithril Pickaxe

-2 Diamonds (noted)

Yeah, not carrying much because on an account you're not even allowed to use the bank, you won't be successful if you're a pack rat. I'm surprised at how I've managed to carry an almost empty inventory most of the time where I thought it was going to be completely filled to the brim and I was going to have to make a ton of painful decisions on what to keep and what to NPC or discard. Of course, if I was a member on my Ultimate Ironman, that would make a world of difference since I WOULD have almost half my inventory wasted carrying things like a Dramen Staff (for Fairy Rings), Ectophial (for Ectofuntus and convenient one-click teleport), runes, potions, etc. Then you have those quests you have to drop all of your weapons and armor and pray you can beat them fast enough so some random bypasser doesn't steal your items or they don't despawn.

Other than that, decided to really mess with Terraria and using cheats (giving myself several Tipsy debuffs and Well Fed buffs), I actually made the Bladed Glove so fast it doesn't even animate. It literally has a use time of 1. That's 60 hits per second. Do the math. Paired with Weapon Imbue: Ichor, it's the perfect combo. Too bad it's only possible with cheating, but it was good novelty for playing with. On another note, am I the only person that even uses bows? Like I use Yrimir's strategy to farm the Corruption early game, only where he makes an Iron Broadsword, I instead make an Iron Bow and abuse the fact Eaters can't pass through the top of a platform. Of course, Devourers laugh at that setup, but I have Flaming Arrows to take care of those guys.

On another note, I'm tempted to do a 100% ranged character challenge. That is, NO melee weapons at all. But then, what should I do if I accidentally hit a monster with a tool while mining? On another note, this would probably be the hardest of the three "use only one class" challenge.

See with melee, you have a lot more early game support, much higher defense, powerful mid-ranged weapons late game like the Paladin's Hammer and very powerful long-ranged ones as well such as Flairon and the Terra Blade's sword beams. You also have Vampire Knives for healing and all of the imbuing flasks to make you even more lethal.

As a mage, you have a lot of very good spells. Pre-Hardmode, there is Water Bolt, Demon Scythe, Crimson Rod and the various staves. Later, you get all kinds of great spells, such as Magnet Sphere, Nimbus Rod, Razorpine, Blizzard Staff, Crystal Storm and more. Let's not forget the strong healing of Spectre armor and the insanely high DPS you can get with the Mask set of Spectre.

Ranged on the other hand has a lot of problems. First of all, you're constantly in need of ammo, be it bullets, arrows, etc. Bows are generally poor weapons and you'll be begging for a gun, even if it's an Undertaker or Musket. Secondly, the later game bullets and arrows become hard to make in bulk. Have fun farming Ichor Stickers or Chlorophyte for a few in-game days just to have a decent amount of Ichor/Chlorophyte Bullets. Lastly, and this is the big one, there is no parasitic healing at all. Melee has the Vampire Knives, Mages have Spectre Armor (Hood set), but Ranged has nothing. Not to mention, to profit from Shroomite's massive bonus damage, you have to remain still, which in a Pumpkin or Frost Moon, is a VERY quick way to get killed. So as a Ranger, you're forced to do a ton of evasion and aiming at the same time.

Not to mention, getting the Megashark is going to be FUN. The only way I could think of doing it reasonably would be to craft an Adamantite/Titanium Repeater and use either Jester or Unholy Arrows on the Destroyer. I tried Exploding Bullets and they leave to be desired, not to mention you risk hurting yourself. Other than that, the best I could think of is a +speed Clockwork Assault Rifle with Crystal Bullets, but that would take a while, especially with Probes chasing me all over. Either way, I'll attempt it.
