"Guys, we need to talk. I have...something I've been needing to tell you."
guys> ?
"I'm..."
guys> You're gay? Transgender? WHAT ARE YOOOOU?
"I'm a brony! ;~;
guys> oh you've got to be kidding me, that's it? That's what you've been needing to tell us?
"Uh, yeah? It's been eating at me for a while, and I needed to tel-"
guys> jeez, I thought this would be something serious. Nobody cares what you watch, unless they're stupid.
ALSO!
This is not the Korra thread, quit talking about it in here.
It actually went nothing like that.
I introduced it as sort of a comic relief to lighten the mood on rough news from my sister. It was appropriate.

Tonight I watched the first two episodes in the series, which I hadn't seen before. Not bad! I can see why bronies managed to find the series. It's simple but not condescending, and it appeals to the age-old story-telling devices of "party of companions on a quest" and "facing the <insert number> trials." Both of those date back to the days of bardic tales, and can be seen in more modern classics that we all remember, like The Wizard of Oz.
And besides, the first two episodes certainly seem like they would appeal to Zelda fans, in that they cover a multi-part quest to find and unify the elements of an ancient force. Sound familiar?
That's all for now. I'm a little disappointed that nobody responded to my post about Derpy, though.

Well, it's just basic stuff that appears in good shows and movies everywhere, kinda like the four humors. Although I think I've just been watching too much Cracked After Hours...
Although I have no idea what this "weird stuff" is since I'm not up to date, I totally respect that there could be more interesting stuff going on.
That's one interpretation of the two different names, but I read a statement from one of the writers that Derpy's name was changed because of concerns about offensiveness. But it was only a few seconds of the episode, so who knows whether they'll stick with it. Part of me wishes they'd just leave it obscure so fans can continue to create their own interpretations.
As for "Bubbles," I think that was just some marketing/toy design executive trying to slap a name on a hitherto unnamed background pony in order to market her as a unique character, for "Gotta Catch 'Em All" value. Not worth getting upset about, because it was too far removed to cite as canon.

I just watched these two videos. Coupled with being fully perceptive of the context through which they are offered, they put forth a very persuasive, thought-provoking sense of uplifting positivity and support. It can be applied to the scenario as it is, or to any other situation that calls for such love and tolerance, be it transforming the negative into a positive, or maintaining the pristine glow of the already positive.
People actually put all of that together for a fictional character. They spent hours and hours of their free time to assemble those messages for a semi-anthropomorphic being that does not exist, yet exists in a state of dire need. Their call had been answered, and answered with bravado.
Any decent person would find that difficult to ignore.
...
I didn't think the Derpy issue was such a big issue until I realized that it wasn't just about one character; it was about letting people be who they are, and being happy for them because they're more than just a set of attributes, be they amusing or otherwise.

So in all my years of internetting around, I never thought I would encounter such a truly powerful, raw, and emotive force like this. I just had to say something about it.
