Why would anybody use a certain maximum type of trees? The more different types of trees the better.

Nope. But if you prefer that then do so. :)

I personally prefer to limit the number of kinds of different trees per area, maybe two at most. It's good to have variety, but it's also good to save different kinds of trees for different areas of the overworld. Sticking to specific types of trees gives the player a visual distinction for each area, I think. I think the number of trees in Theryan's screenshot is fine, however.

Theryan: Your screenshot is great. You've really done a good job of picking out different GB tiles that actually mesh well with Newfirst (as they ought to, since most of Newfirst's tiles are essentially upgraded GB ones icon_razz.gif), and the palette is genuinely nice. Keep it up!

Are we seriously having a discussion on the types of trees?

Personally, with very few exceptions, I don't like to have two of the same tree type appear on one screen, or even on adjacent screens if I can help it. I feel the variety makes things more interesting and gives a great sense of realism.

That said, the screen is indeed awesome Theryan. It-

Theryan. The Ryan. I just NOW figured that out. Oh lord I'm an idiot. icon_doh.gif

What was I saying? Right. The screen's very good. Nice layout and variety, very nice work with the elevation change, and awesome tiles. I like it, a lot.

Very good! I like the varieties in this screen, however I should just use one max two types of trees. icon_smile.gif

I can count seven different types of trees in my back yard, man.

I don't care, my opinion still stands. I won't stop you if you want to use 7 different tree types in your screen, or if you decide to build your game after how your backyard looks. I just prefer to use 2 or less types per area to have differences between the areas in my games.

"What an awesome subscreen!"
-Everyone

The setup of the screen is pretty much perfect. I can't think of anything not to like about it. Love it!

Edit: I tried to bring the colours alive a little more. What do you think of something like this:

Maybe you like some of the colours. icon_smile.gif

Edit 2: Maybe you could try and see how the borders on the mountains would look if they were grey? Just a thought.

Then why is Link battling mythical creatures, adventuring through out-of-this-world environments and has three and more hearts inside him? Because it's a video game.

I agree with Gonken, keep a certain max number of trees and tiles so each area feels different and not the same.

Love the browns and blues. Not so much the greens, but YMMV.

If that's the way you feel, then more power to ya. I was just expressing an opinion.

Definitely much better. My only complaint is the darkest green. The water(blues) looks amazing.

Not a fan of that blue, Ventus. And, come to think of it, the red for the trees either. Not enough contrast, IMO. Classic is all about the contrast.

I think the blue, despite me not being a fan of it, wouldn't be bad. But I would definitely change the red to a very light color. As stated previously, classic looks best with a lot of contrast in the colors, and that red and blue/green run together a little to much for my taste.

Okay so what about this. I returned the trees to a color I've already had it at one point.
The differences with this shot is the tree's. and the ground went from being a blueish color to a lite green.

My only request is to make those white trees dark green, other then that it's pretty awesome for classic!

Hm... I dunno, the grass still looks turquoise-blue to me. I think it might look better with a more saturated color a bit closer to green hue-wise.

This looks very good to me my only complaint is the classic tileset but that should not be a complaint. I dont see any room for improvement it is good.
