Beat Majora for the first time. I'll go back after I get all masks (and everything else) for the customary Fierce Deity slaying. As it stands now though, wow, this remake actually managed to make me appreciate Majora's Mask a lot more than before. I can probably count the bad things on one hand: Tatl ruining the puzzle in Snowhead, limiting the ice arrow platform usage, and the swimming mechanics. But even that latter one is kind of minor, and the rest of the game seems so smooth now and streamlined, some more questionable aspects fixed up and some other minor conveniences added, and the bosses... well I've never cared about Odolwa so I won't care anymore, but hot damn, this remake may have made Majora's Mask truly shoot up there in terms of good bosses. Goht had a small buff in my opinion and Gyorg and Twinmold were both hella amazing, which is shocking considering they were the weaker two bosses in the original.

Damn.

I'm gonna reserve final judgment until I 100% it, and remind myself why the Anju/Kafei quest is horrible from a gameplay perspective, but right now, I'm riding high on Majora's Mask.

For once in my life.

limiting the ice arrow platform usage

Honestly, I can kind of understand why they did this. :( While it was definitely a really cool mechanic, and I am a bit bummed that it was gimped, it wasn't without its issues in Majora's Mask.  It was inconsistent in that it could only be used in certain areas, for one.  Probably worse was that even where you could use it, it was finicky sometimes.  You couldn't use it too close to edges of things, for example.  Sometimes there were areas where you'd have to jump up to a platform, and you had to get the ice arrow close enough to the platform to jump to it, but not so close that the ice arrows wouldn't work.  I do remember this being frustrating at times - especially if you happened to run out of magic.

Obviously there could be multiple ways to resolve this issue, and they could have tried other fixes, but ended up not going with them due to bugs and time constraints. So, I can definitely understand why they did this.  Again, it's disappointing, but be honest... how often did you use it outside of the areas where you had to? :P

Time was definitely not an issue if they had been working on it for 3 years. It doesn't take 3 years to do what they have done.

well, you have to remember, during those three years they weren't just working on this, but on Wind Waker HD, A Link Between Worlds, Hyrule Warriors and the new Zelda WiiU which, besides Wind Waker HD, are all new original games which do take alot of time and resources. Plus, this isn't just an emulation but a remake, of which they altered alot of mechanics as well as added new features. Taking that into account, as well as pressure from us fans of the franchise series, means that time was an issue due to the fact that all those three years where not concentrated solely on this title.

Is it just me or does Goron Link's controls feel weird on this version? I believe when you do Goron Roll on the old version, you had to hold the A button and letting go of A stops the roll completely. On this version you don't hold A anymore to roll; instead, you have to press A to stop. It feels very awkward to me. Boy I really hope Zora Link's controls are not awkward.

Well, I don't think either of us are in a position to really say anything to this.  We don't know the technical hurdles went through with this nor how their staffing was during the development.  The recent Iwata asks hints that Grezzo had several big set backs, especially when the New 3DS was unveiled.  For example, they really had to redo the camera controls from the ground up to allow for the C-stick to be used to control the camera.  They also had to redo the bosses, which would involve a lot of coding.  And, speaking from experience, trying to work around other peoples' code (let along another company's code) can be a nightmare, especially if it's not properly commented.  Add on top of that the research that had to be done by Aonuma and people of Grezzo to determine what they felt needed to be changed.

So, while 3 years does still seem like a long time for something like this, it's just hard for any of us to say that time wasn't an issue because we don't know what was going on behind closed doors at Grezzo.

yeah, Goron Link's controls are a bit awkward, but I find it's alot easier to steer in this version as well.
Zora Link's aren't all too bad once you get used to the swimming. Also, even if you run out of Magic, you can dash-swim faster if you keep tapping "R". It's not exactly the same as the old version, but as you dash for a few good seconds before having to hit "R" again, it's really not all too bad :) (You can hold "R" with magic to continuousely swim like in the original though)

So...I just beat Majora's Mask 3D...FREAKING AMAZINGLY AWESOME GAME!!! MM3D is officially my favorite Zelda game, and always will be! The original Majora's Mask was my favorite, then the 3D re-mastered version came out...and it just was so awesome, and beautiful too! I say it's re-mastered because, well, it was more than a remake, but it wasn't really an "original", so yeah...Lel

The graphics where amazing too. It was so beautiful to just walk around Clock Town and see the amount of detail that was put into it. MM3D had so much detail everywhere, making the gameplay better. Though there where some control issues I had, but because Nintendo where nice enough to let us adjust controls, it helped much better. If Nintendo where wanting to make this game hard to go back to the original, they succeeded. It will be SO difficult going back to the N64 version because of how amazing MM3D is.

The bosses, oh my gosh, MOST of them where improved so well! Odolwa was interesting to fight, he wasn't easy or hard...just awkward. :P Then there was Goht, which too was amazing. The fact that you actually had to be regular Link to beat him as well as Goron...made it awesome! Then Gyorg...I didn't like it that much, or at least the second half. I enjoyed the first, mainly because it was better than the original, but the second half was annoying. It was good thinking that Nintendo did, but it just was annoying. And finally, Twinmold...BEST BOSS IN THIS GAME! Nintendo was freaking clever with this boss. If you've faced it...you know why. But I won't spoil it if you didn't play it yet. But playing as Giant Link in that game...so more fun! xD

Anyways, below are the pros and cons I've created...(SPOILER WARNING...kind of):

Pros:

-Gameplay

-Detail and Graphics

-Most bosses

-Anju and Kafei quest still good

-Bow mini-games where awesome

-Still gets emotional at some points

-Almost everything else I forgot

-Same game...but in 3D and better!

Cons:

-Some controls are iffy (But changeable...sometimes)

-Zora Link's swimming deal

-Gyorg Boss

-Ben Drowned was not removed

-Beaver mini-game was annoying

So I also noticed...I never went fishing...I must go do that now! xD

Anyways, MM3D overall was a 10/10 game. Enjoyed pretty much everything about it! Once summer comes...I'll be racing the Zeldathon crew at MM3D! :D CAN'T WAIT TILL SUMMER NOW! XD

Progress: Got the New Wave Bossa Nova song. I have about half the masks, 11 Heart Containers, and the Double Magic Meter.

What I'm going to do next: Get all the Fairies in Snowhead Temple, get a couple of Heart Pieces, then take on Great Bay Temple.

Good luck at Great Bay! And I think you have a bit more still than I did when I went through Great Bay, except the fairies. xD

Also, another thing I noticed is that Deku Stick torches last longer? I remember struggling to get that Chandelier running on the old version because my Deku stick keeps burning out. Deku Stick torches don't burn out in this version?

I believe the sticks do... however I have yet to have one burn out on me... I like to think it was because of my mad skills and the bunny hood, but they probably dolast a bit longer :P

Just got the Mirror Shield. Afterwards I got the All-Night Mask. Gonna do the Ancient Castle of Ikana after a few more sidequests. Still need the Postman's Hat, and get that new 7th bottle.

I'm saving Kiefi's Mothers bottle for the Moon part... mostly because it comes with the Chateau Ramoni milk in it, plus I wanted the postman's hat over the bottle.
I'm about halfway done the Stone Tower Temple, but decided to take a break to do some ZQuest stuff :P
