Completed Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Didn't like it.

It started too slow, is full of bland and/or annoying characters, and when it finally started getting pretty good around the two-thirds mark, it ended in a forced one-day relationship and a drug trip. Some things needed more explanation, the beginning was too slow and the pacing was off in general, most of the main characters were just unlikable with a handful of exceptions, and the ending was just nonsensical. And that's without the congratulations. Gonna watch the movies next but I hear those are even more screwy. Don't really have high hopes as a result.

At least two out of three Gainax anime isn't too bad, though speaking of Gainax anime, probably gonna go with FLCL next, since I'd wanted to see more Gainax anime. At least it's short.

Well, finished FLCL, and I gotta say... I thought Nichijou was pure, unconcentrated insanity. I'm still not sure what I just watched, but I think I liked it. Well, there were a couple of things I could've lived without, but I enjoyed it overall, and I really dig the soundtrack.

Almost done with Black Butler II. Could someone explain to me why Black Butler II and Spice and Wolf II both have a blonde spoiled snobby kid as an antagonist?

Kill la Kill is completed... great damn anime. Easily my second-favorite, dethroning Steins;Gate. Yes, second place has its own throne, since Gurren Lagann is, in my books, its own kingdom and probably won't get taken over anytime soon, so the second place category owns the thrown. :heh:

There were a few minor problems I had with the show to be sure, such as some instances of odd animation, there were times the fanservice was just too much even if most of it was part of the point of the show, and some other minor things, but there was just so much more that made up for it, with great characters, art direction, music, story, and humor. It maybe too closely followed in its big brother Gurren Lagann's footsteps at times, but it still has an identity all its own, and more of that show's pure awesomeness is always welcome. Studio Trigger is off to a great start with a very tough act to follow, and I wish them the best luck in the future. (yes I know they made Little Witch Academia before Kill la Kill but that wasn't a full series so it doesn't count)

As for what's next? I'm about halfway into Baccano! and so far it's alright, though I feel like I'm waiting for pieces to fall into place before I can fully appreciate it. After that is Cowboy Bebop, since it's so well-loved and I figured I might as well look into it, especially since it's shorter than I thought; for some reason I thought it was one of those long-running shows I didn't want to touch, but thank God it isn't.

Now that Log Horizon's complete, I too will be checking that out after these shows, because I loved Sword Art Online's concept and would love to see a similar concept executed correctly, instead of the disappointing mess that was SAO.

What can you guys tell me about Psycho Pass? I've been lately starting to get into scifi anime.

To be honest, Log Horizon is really different from SAO.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Log Horizon.  But, it's really not for everyone.  It's a very discussion-heavy series focused around politics and economics with little bits of strategy here and there.  It's not really action heavy, though there are some fights here and there.  I'd say it's similarish to Spice and Wolf if anyone has seen that.  Just wanted you to know what Log Horizon is about before you get into it too much.

It's a really good series written by one of my favorite Japanese writers (Urobuchi).  It looks at the police system in a society where basically everyone can get read for how likely they are to commit a crime, and it's got a pretty good mystery since you don't fully know what's going on during most of it, and the characters are pretty good.  I'd definitely recommend it if you want something more adult-oriented.

For me, I've been watching Mushishi recently.  It's a really good series for people who enjoy watching stuff about spirits and things like that.  I've also been watching some of the original FMA (bleh) and Samurai Champloo (whoo) with Nick and Scoot.

I too was watching Kill la Kill, and my thoughts mostly mirror TS's, though I don't hold it in quite as high regard.  It was a fun series from the beginning to the end, but it certainly took everyone for a ride.  In the end, I actually liked it a lot better than Gurren Lagann.  I felt that while Kill la Kill strong start, its second quarter sort of got repetitive and sluggish.  However, the second half of the series was just amazing since it was really one thing after another.  There were crazy twists and shenanigans pretty much every episode.  Compare that with Gurren Lagann, which had a slow start, but amazing 2nd quarter and middle portion.  However, the last part of Gurren Lagann series got really repetitive and sort of left me with a sour taste in my mouth.  So, I think Trigger did a phenomenal job here, though there's definitely room for improvement.  I do hope that if the next big series with the crew will have less fan service, though.

YES! I definitely want an anime where the protagonist is not some snobby adolescent out to save the world. This is something's right up my alley. I'm gonna check this one out. Thanks! :)

Someone told me it was basically if Sword Art Online was good, so blame them for my misplaced expectations. :blah:

I'm still gonna give it a whirl though.

I might give Log Horizon a shot too.

The guy who wrote that story also wrote Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, a show about humans, demons, and using economics to unite the races and create peace.

aside from the... PLOT every now and again, it's a pretty solid show I think, but it could've used more episodes. <_<

I was also following Kill La Kill. Now that that's over, I'm going to chip away at the backlog of anime I've been meaning to get to. >_> Baccano is one I'll probably be starting with. Because why not? XD

Welp, finished Baccano. It was decent, I suppose. It had some good characters and interesting plot, but I also felt like it was a bit bloated; they tie the characters' stories together well admittedly, but the storytelling felt too disjointed and I felt like there was too much going on much of the time. And I dunno if I missed something but I feel like there also wasn't enough closure given to the fate of the immortals and the elixir, the show just kinda... ended. I almost feel like it would've benefited from more linear storytelling, but I dunno. Maybe it's just not my kind of story. The gore threshold was pretty high too, I am no squeamish man but the show kind of went beyond what I feel were acceptable levels of gore on several occasions. It doesn't gross me out most of the time, but it can bug me, and it definitely bugged me at times. Ah well, that show's down, will be starting on Cowboy Bebop soon.

Completed Black Butler II. TBH, it really didn't feel like it was necessary. If you were in it for the story of Alois Trancey, then this season would be worth seeing. Ciel was pretty much a zombie until the very end. I thought the end was pretty cool. But still, Ciel's character development was pretty weak and didn't add anything new to the table.
