Wow, way to be tactful.

I had edited my post before I read your post, actually.
I re-edited it again seeing that my post was quite immature.

Alright, let me post the description that convinced FefeRawft to watch it. Hold on...

QUOTE
Lauren Faust (a writer for the Powerpuff Girls and the co-creator of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) recently debuted a new "My Little Pony" series called "Friendship is Magic" that basically acts as a middle finger towards the old, crappy My Little Pony shows. The new series is still basically a kid's show, but it's extremely well written, the animation is fantastic, and overall, its extremely entertaining. People began to take notice of it when CartoonBrew wrote an article which baselessly criticized the new series, claiming it to be "the end of the creator-driven era" (which is completely backwards, since this new MLP series is almost 100% creator driven). That piqued the interest of the /co/ boards on 4chan, which would eventually became infested with pony-related material. The trend eventually leaked into other corners of the internet, spawning such sites as EquestriaDaily and FiMFiction.

Back to the point...

Lauren Faust basically wanted to make a My Little Pony series that 1) wouldn't be just an animated infomercial, 2) you could tell the writers actually gave a damn about, and 3) would be entertaining to adults as well as children.

I don't know what else I can say. When getting into the new show the thought process goes something like this:

A friend of yours: So, you should watch that new My Little Pony series.
Your reaction: Pfft, ahahaha! Yeah, no.
Friend: No seriously. It's surprisingly good.
You: Well, okay, I'll check out the first episode, but I'm still extremely doubtful...
*you watch the first episode*
You: Okay, that wasn't too mind numbing, I'll watch episode 2 just to see how this storyline concludes...
*you watch the second episode*
You: Okay, that was kind of awesome.
*you watch up through episode seven*
You: [speechless and in tears]

And it basically continues until you finish the first season. The plot thickens, and continues to mesmerize you until you, like everyone else, are obsessed on ponies.

And that's basically why everyone is obsessed.

Oof, that's a bad place to start. Seriously, those clips were SOOOOO much less disturbing in the original context.

DO NOT start out with a parody from the gutter-minded part of the community. Here, let me point you in the right direction:

To be fair, they DO make a lot of horse puns (bird in the hoof, Manehattan, Fillydelphia, etc.).

Well, it's true that furries do have a tendency to make really bad fur puns. However, I don't think this is an inextricable part of furrydom. Bad puns are a human flaw that is embraced in many societies. icon_wink.gif

For my part, I think the horrible puns are hilarious. And I am quite aware that this is a character flaw on my part.

So you create a dream world, and implant them within that dream world... as a pony?

Friendship seems magical while you're out socializing. It's only when you go home that you realize "dude, I'm just a brightly-coloed pony".

And that is what we call the "friendship hangover." icon_frown.gif

By the way, PowerGauntlets, I noticed your signature, and I have to suggest: why not add Stephen Colbert to your "potentional bronies" list?

For the same reason that the Nyan Cat in your signature stops running when I mouse over it: NO REASON WHATSOEVER!

Actually, it's because he's not a PZC member. But maybe I'm stating the obvious and you were being slightly sardonic and I'm just not completely picking up on it because it's late and my brain is dead...

EDIT: Also, the music was from Spore.

That's an awesome episode, but SO confusing if you don't already know what's going on. :/

And the name you're looking for is "Rarity".

Nahh, I just thought it'd be funny to list him there. He could be the one exception.

Going back a few posts....

I thought this was pretty accurate.

Hmmm, wonder where that music is from.

<--- (easily distracted by trivial details)

EDIT: Think of MLP as a black hole brings up the amusing idea that it has an event horizon. icon_biggrin.gif

What's more amusing is that on that chart, you're ON that event horizon! Seriously, you've watched, what, four episodes now? Yeah, you're past the point of no return.

Eh, I suppose. But watching stuff that is totally outside of my supposed demographic is not really a new thing for me. I've watched and enjoyed at least three anime series that were designed for young girls. icon_blah.gif (Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura, and some of Full Moon wo Sagas***e.) Guys who fall into watching shows like MLP often do so because they feel like they've been missing out on stuff like that for all their life, since they stuck to watching "guy's" shows. I'm already past that.

Hmmm... y'know, if you want to take the "black hole" analogy seriously, that implies that everyone in the "brony" portion is doomed to be sucked into the "not normal" center of the black hole. icon_wink.gif

(...and then, molecular annihilation...)
