Okay! I think we have enough interested people to try this out and see how it goes.

So here's the deal: I don't have at least half of you that have expressed interest on my contact list since I'm still an utter Skype newbie, so we're going to try this out and see how it goes.

  1. If you haven't added me on Skype already, I'm EternalKyo (my display name is "NickZC"). I have my Skype settings set to only accept IMs from friends, so you'll have to send me a contact info request. So that I'm not confused, you should note who you are on PureZC if it isn't obvious. :P
  2. Send me a message letting me know you want in the race chat.
  3. I'll add you to the race chat after I set it up (probably sometime tomorrow)... assuming I don't fumble things horribly. :blah:

As far as immediate games to race, I think that Super Mario World would be a good simple thing to start with since a few people have expressed interest in that. But to keep things interesting, I don't think we should be allowed to use the star road since that would make for an extremely short race. There also wouldn't be emulator trickery like save states or rewinding allowed.

Of course, if any of you want to organize a quick 10-30 minute race that includes the star road in the chat, you can definitely do that (along with organizing races for whatever else you want)! The star road ban would just be for people (such as myself) that are up for a longer race.

It would be nice if we could get at least one race group organized for Super Mario World as early as tomorrow night.

Without Star Road use, the race would take much longer, probably 3x longer.

Yeah.  That's the point. :P This is for fun.  Not for speed runs.

Okay, so in speed run terms, I'm to understand that this Super Mario World run will be titled, "Any%, No Star Road."  I'll give it a try.

I'm definitely up for racing, although I'd prefer to do ZC stuff. Otherwise I'm pretty rubbish at the vidcons.

Maybe we could race some of the 2 week contest entries somewhere down the line, seeing as they're all pretty short.

Also if we're ever gonna put up race videos on YouTube we gotta have somebody playing something completely different from everybody else.

I'll try to get in on this if I can, but I doubt I'd finish very quickly. Not that I'd even expect to win, just an excuse to play SMW with others more than anything.

Count me in! I love to do video game races, they're a whole lot of fun :D

For me, I would personally start off with either ZC Randomizer Modern or LTTP, and then from there we could go on into different games.

I wouldn't be able to race any ZC quests, since it's been forever since I played one XD.  I'd race LTTP or something.  The question is if in-game glitches can be abused.  Because if they can, LTTP has plenty to work with, especially the GBA version.  Also, whether or not savestates can be used.

ya most people don't race glitched category tho (including cursed link from GBA)

kryssstal is a god when it comes to speed running LTTP/Racing as well!

Random facts are fun!!

ALSO bragging rights: http://zeldaspeedrun...uts-of-the-wind

I have credit for a glitch discovery!!
:3

ANYWAYS!!!

Starting a racing community here would be really awesome! We could have a group on SRL as well, who knows, maybe even get a bigger community here just from that :3

One thing that isn't covered is versions.  Say someone is more acquainted with the GBA version of Super Mario World, and would rather play that version.  It's essentially the same game, but there are differences.  LTTP is also on GBA and SNES.  The first Zelda is on NES, GBA, Virtual console, ZC...Link's Awakening has a super glitchy GB game, and an enhanced, not as glitchy GBC game.  Also, I'm going to assume in-game glitches can be abused, because they don't require any outside source to perform.
