I recently got into Final Fantasy XIV thanks to a...certain individual. >_> ( :P) Presently a level 16 gladiator. I'm only playing the trial at the moment, but I'm pretty damn sure I'll be picking up the full game by the end of the week.

I've also been playing Alpha Sapphire more. My nuzlocke ended on the rival fight north of Slateport, but I kept going anyway, just without nuzlocke rules. Currently running Mawile (traded over from X), Swablu, Graveler, Beautifly, Breloom and Mightyena. I'm thinking I'll swap out my Beautifly and Mightyena. I'd like to get an Azumaril on my team, but otherwise I'm not 100% sure. >_< Presently have 5 badges.

I'm currently playing these days:

  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • Pokemon Omega Ruby
  • Super Mario 3D World
  • Destiny

And also a few other games on the computer. All of the games I really enjoy playing, however. :)

I think I'm in almost the same position as Dan right now in Alpha Sapphire. I just beat Norman, got a good rod, and now I'm endlessly fishing to try catch myself a Wailmer. I've got a Grovyle, Kirlia, Manetric, and Swablu right now. Not sure what I'm gonna use for my sixth once I get Wailmer. This team's almost exactly the same as my original Emerald team, except in that case I had an Aggron that I opted against this time. Not quite sure how to fill that gap yet.

I've been going through a number of games, trying to clear out my endless backlog, somewhat.  Current playing:

  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Pokemon Black 2
  • Pokemon Leaf Green (Nuzlocke)
  • Super Smash Bros U
  • Shining Force (I've beaten it before, but I've been streaming it to friends)
  • Hyrule Warriors

Anyway, I've got those and several more games I'd like to get around to completing.  I told myself I wouldn't get Pokemon X until then, which I've really been wanting to try.  I just need restraint or I'll end up with another Pokemon game that I might not end up finishing. >_>

Edit: Oh yeah, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 as well, and that surely won't take a while...

In my case right now:

― Still playing Elsword, though I'll likely slow down once Dungeon Fighter Online is up and running again.

― replaying Fire Emblem: Awakening, working on getting ready for Apotheosis somewhere down the line.

― Ultimate NES Remix, part of the 100-something-way tie for fastest bombed dodongo.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, mostly just nerding around at this point.

Super Smash Bros. (3DS or WiiU), maining freeze-breath Kirby and Hyper Voice Jigglypuff.

Fantasy Life, with the DLC expansion, as a Lv.77 Creator-tier Wizard and looking for people to do multiplayer with.

― Considering replaying Solomon's Club and Solomon's Key, in that order.

^Solomon's Key. Damn that game was BRUTAL. I only remember getting to around Room 17-20 or so as a kid. I'm sure I could do a lot better now than when I was a kid. Still, it's hard simply because Dana has almost no way to defend himself save for his block spawning and the very limited fireballs he has. I would go as far to say it's the "fair" hard kind of game though. It's hard enough to get you frustrated, but not enough where it's due to lousy hit detection, idiotic programming, awful controls, etc.

Anyway, back to my OSRS Iron Man. I finally did a bunch of quests and FINALLY unlocked Fairy Rings so I could get myself a Rune Axe. Luckily for me, it took fewer than 10 kills to get it. That's 9 or so kills to get a drop that has at minimum a 1 in 128 rarity. At least I can finally train Woodcutting efficiently and get a good steady cash flow going. Need I say I used a Steel Axe from 6 to 47 Woodcutting and a Black Axe from 47 to 62 before getting a Mithril Axe which took me all the way up to 557k XP, or level 67 Woodcutting. All that XP waste using a crappy axe and now I have the second best one in the game. Dragon Axe is impossible to get at my level, due to being way too under-leveled to even think about killing a Dagannoth King.

Speaking of lucky breaks. Fairytale I has been known to screw over Iron Men. Basically, you have to get an NPC three randomly chosen items from a list of 32 different possible items. Here's where the luck came in; two of my items were on the way to said NPC. The Mort Myre Stem and Mort Myre Fungus were on the way while my 3rd item, I got EXTREMELY lucky on. It was a Nature Talisman, which could have been a major low blow if I hadn't done a ton of excess Ranged grinding and gotten one off the Rare Drop Table. So yeah, a ton of headaches averted. Also, Tanglefoot was a joke. As usual, I go in waaaaaaay over-prepared. My entire inventory was mid-high tier food and I didn't even take a single hit the whole time because of a trick I discovered. Hit and run may be cheap, but damnit, it works!

In summary:

-Did Grand Tree

-Broke 1,000 total skill level

-Did Nature Spirit

-Did Fairytale I

-Got 60 Magic

-Unlocked Fairy Rings

-Obtained a Rune Axe

Well, I'm at the point on my Iron Man where I want to make as much money as possible. Now that I'm closing in on the much coveted 70 Fletching, I plan to switch to chopping Yews so I can make them into Longbows to alch for 768gp each. I'm going to blow about 205gp each on Nature Runes buying from NPCs, so chopping the logs, fletching them then alching them will yield these figures for every group of 1,000:

-150k Fletching XP (making and stringing the bows)

-15k Crafting XP (spinning 1,000 Flax)

-65k Magic XP (for 1,000 High Level Alchemy casts)

-175k Woodcutting XP (at 175 XP per Yew Log obtained)

-405k overall XP gain

-Roughly 550-570k profit per 1,000 casts (ball park figure)

Now for more figures:

-Getting 1k Yew Logs: Approximately 6 hours

-Picking/spinning 1k Flax: About 3 hours

-Fletching and stringing 1k Yew Longs: About 2 hours

-High alching 1k Yew Longbows: 50 minutes (assuming perfect timing w/o interruptions)

-Buying 1k Nature Runes at the Wizard's Guild: About 3 minutes counting world hops

So overall, I'm looking at putting in roughly 12 hours of work to make ~560k, which would come out to approximately 46k-47k an hour. Not bad, considering dem gainz. Eventually, I should be in the mid to upper 80s with Woodcutting by the time I can fletch Magic Longbows, which if I repeat the above process, I can expect to add another 3-4 hours to the chopping time since Magic Logs take AGES to get no matter what Woodcutting level you are. However, my rough profitability would increase by nearly 140% percent in addition to more Woodcutting and Fletching XP, albeit the former would be gained much slower.

Guess it ain't so bad being an old gamer that has insane patience, now is it? And yeah, I'm not THAT old, but still. Considering when I played MapleStory I grinded up a Beginner before Big Bang all the way up to level 88, that should give you an idea how strong my will can be. For those that want a ball park figure, around the 70s, it would have taken me 14 hours of nonstop grinding to level up ONCE. By the time I hit the 80s, I think I was taking around 22 hours per level up on average (READ: 4.5% or so of progress towards a levelup per hour monotonously tabbing the CTRL key and occasionally the ALT key to jump and directional keys to move around. I think Eppy may have a challenger for who has the most patience grinding :P.

But yeah, I seem to take a while to wear down when it comes to grinding in games. Hell, even as a 9 year old, I managed to grind my character in the original Dragon Warrior all the way to level 27. Was close to level 28 but I eventually gave up, considering every level or two, I would go back to see how much more one-sided the Dragonlord became which each level up I got. Speaking of which, my first win against him was at level 21, with 8 HP left and no more Healmores. I attacked, with my finger hovering a centimeter above the reset button. However, "Thou hast done well in defeating the Dragonlord." I literally beat him on my last breath. Quite an achievement for a 9 year old to beat that without using any guides or having anyone to help him out. Don't ask how I managed to find Gwaelin's Love or know to check behind the throne for the true path to the Dragonlord.

Well, I'm a man now on OSRS on my Iron Man. Level 70 Fletching is achieved, so it's time to start getting myself Yew Longbows made. From a calculator I read, I have to make about 8,300 of them to get to level 80, and almost 17,000 bows to reach level 85 when I can make Magic Longbows. The grind is going to be real on that one, but that will take me from level 70 Woodcutting up to 86, so Magic Trees should be tolerable by then. And by tolerable, that means getting around 90-100 an hour. Also, Yews will be considerably faster. I'm not sure how fast I'll get Yews, but I'm going to guess 6-7 hours for every 1,000 logs, since they're slow and they get crowded. But that's the life of an Iron Man; one massive grind fest. At least the aftermath will make me rich to the tune of roughly 9.5m coins. Will be painful, but those gains are pretty beastly. Too bad it will take a looooooooooong time to achieve, but I can do it.

Looks like I'll be investing a lot of my time into this project. If I no-lifed it, I'd say my goal would be achievable in a month's time, all factors considered. If I chopped 500 logs a day (about 3-4 hours a day depending on how much competition I have to deal with), that works out to a little over a month chopping trees alone. Most likely though, I'll probably make the bows in chunks of 1,000 to keep from losing my sanity. That includes making them from scratch and alching them. The only downside is that I'll end up with roughly 10m coins when I finish, but I'll have little to spend it on other than Construction. The major purchases only come up to 785,000 coins, assuming I never die and lose any of them:

-Dragon Scimitar for 100k

-Dragon Dagger for 30k

-Dragon Battleaxe for 200k

-Dragon Halberd for 325k

-Barrows Gloves for 130k

If I have the luck of ten devils, I MAY get a Draconic Visage, which will relieve me of 1.25m of it to make the Dragonfire Shield, but I'm not holding my breath. There's also a Dragon Square Shield for 750k if I somehow get the shield half to drop, but then I would have to beat Legend's Quest to use it. Considering my lack of good shield, that could be welcome actually. Lol at using a Mithril Kiteshield XD.

I beat ORAS, including the Delta Episode. That... that was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen happen in a Pokemon game.

Spoiler

It was everything I could have asked for and then some. A much better conclusion to the game than the usual "You're the champion, yay, now here's a slideshow of your Pokemon."

Oh yeah, team was Trevor the Sceptile, Diene the Gaurdevoir, Spark the Manetric, Sapphire the Altaria, Ceta the Wailord, and Martin the Shiny Sandslash, who were all in the 50-60 range.

I've begun a new Zelda marathon, though not another chronicles series. I beat Zelda 1 a week or so ago and started Zelda II three days ago. I just beat it. All legit, no save states, cheats, etc. It was a pain. I have no problem with the game itself being difficult. Overcoming the challenges is rewarding and beating the Great Palace felt... well, great. The biggest issues I have with the game are the terrible lives system that forces you to backtrack upon a game over, and I'm not too big a fan of the EXP system; that second one's more preference, as I could have managed my EXP levels better had I did some more grinding earlier instead of doing so later on when the EXP needed was quite high, but the backtracking often tried my patience, especially when a couple levels were annoying to get to in the first place and you could feasibly lose lives on the way there, making the palace even more hell depending on your current levels. And the later levels tend to just get confusing and have some dumb navigational puzzles, like walking through walls.

Long story short, it's actually a really fun game, these issues just drag down the enjoyment for me. I do like how the towns are alive and offer more viable clues than the first game... mostly, and the spell systems are cool. I would prefer not to see another Zelda game made in this style, since I feel Zelda is best as an adventure game and not a platformer, but this was an okay experiment that brought us a few good things to the series' formula.

Yeah, you really need to grind up the attack first a few levels while adding in a life upgrade every once in a while. But I agree, it's a great game and I wouldn't mind the levelling systemand even the platforming levels if there was more adventure-exploration aspect added in to it.

As for my games, I'm currently playing Monster Hunter 3 again, and am gaining materials to upgrade my weapons. I am mainly a dual sword and sword & shield user in it as I like the speed it offers, despite the lower damage output per strike. I progressed to finding the Ancient Mask sofar, but I'm going to more concentrate on getting my HR rating up (I've negelcted it, so I'm only at HR2 :P )

I reckon a sequel to The Adventure of Link would be great if it incorporated at least all of the items that LttP or Link's Awakening introduced to the series. As it is, there just isn't enough item/gear variety to keep the players attention during the mid to end-game and the combat mechanics can become stale fairly fast (You don't even get new swords or tunics!).

You really need to exploit the palaces by completing them but not handing in the crystal orb at the very end of them until you've leveled each skill up to level 6, otherwise you'll be grinding a ton of XP in the late game.
