I love it, FlameCursed. The top-left reminds me of Oracle of Seasons. It all flows together nicely too!

I'm in a slump for my quest ideas. Could anyone throw random ideas out there?

Damn FlameCurse, I really need to learn how to screen design like you do because that just looks awesome!

I'm in a slump for my quest ideas. Could anyone throw random ideas out there?

Hmm, what part do you need ideas for? Story, level, areas...?

First off, thanks! Secondly, like limebeer said, what do you need ideas for? Story, dungeons? gameplay?

How about Link is tricked into gathering the pieces of the triforce for Ganon (Who could turn out to have been a supporting character.) That would be an interesting twist. Lets say that ganon succeeds in taking the triforce from link, and in the second section of the game, link needs to find the master sword to get into ganon's castle, defeat him, and restore peace for once and for all.

I dunno, just something off the top of my head :P

Hmm... well depends on how large of a story you want to do.
For a large story (one that I thought of a small while back but have nowhere near the talent or skills as of yet to pull off) is one that takes place in a few lands. It starts off in Hyrule where you learn that the people are starting to either disappear or turn to stone. After gaining the three goddess stones from the 3 temples in Hyrule you meet up with a stranger who mocks you and alludes to problems in the Temple of Time where the Triforce rests. You go there to learn that the triforce is gone and Zelda tells you it's been scattered into the three realms : Lorule, the Dark Realm, and the Twilight Realm (You can use or make up any three realms if you'd like, but these where the one's that I would have used) and that, in order to recover them you must travel to those realms.
The first realm traveled to in my idea would be Lorule, where you meet Hilda and learn that her people has slowly been transforming into plants and trees. After beating a few temples and gaining the first two Triforce pieces, you meet the stranger again who mocks you more, telling you are on a fool's errand. You then return to Hilda who tells you that she senses something off from the fragments you hold, but it could be that she's just sensing the after effects of them being shattered. She then helps you to your next destination, that being the Dark World.

In the dark world the monsters seem tougher, as if their skin is turning to stone and the people who once resided there are now shades and spirits. You find a tablet in the Mayors house which tells you of two shining fragments appearing just as people started vanishing and reports of ghosts where on the rise. Following the locations pointed out you find the next two fragments. This is where you first fight the stranger who, upon defeat, tells you that even though you have found half of the Triforce it is useless to continue on the quest, that his master is making it so. You then go to another dungeon or two and head to the Great Pyramid, where you fight Ganon (whom, after a telepathic message from Zelda, you learn has been causing trouble and is about to break free into Hyrule from the Dark Realm). After finding him, he tells you it is best to give him the fragments as the power is useless to Link, that they are now more suited to him than they ever where in the past. Upon his defeat he drops another Triforce piece, and a rift in the ground opens leading you to the Twilight Realm. Zelda urges you to hurry as time is running out. She also expresses concern due to the fact that nearly all of Hyrule is now either vanished or turned to stone, and strange creatures are seeming to be seen now.
Entering the Twilight Realm you see that something is instantly wrong. Instead of it being dark like it should be, it is bright much like the Sacred Realm. You find your way to the Queen there where she has you go to the corners of her realm to rid her world of the tainted light that is outshining the twilight her people needs. Once collect the next two pieces you once again fight the stranger who says, once hes killed, that it's too late, that even completing the triforce won't be enough, that it may even be worse to do. When you find the last piece you get transported back to Hyrule where Zelda is waiting in the temple of time. You try to activate it, believing that it will help restore everything when the golden glow of the triforce fades and turns to a corrupted shade. A voice tells how his influence on the triforce is what has caused the troubles in the realms to be, that the sacred triangle tried to defend the people by shattering, knowing that if they where apart from eachother it would eventually become cleansed, but now that they where reassembled nothing can stop it. The voice mentions that Ganonsaw what was happening and would have been a strong enough sorcerer to perhaps keep him sealed. Link uses the master sword to hit the triforce to try and break it, but is transported to an unknown temple. There he meets the villain and battles him after traversing a labyrinth. the villain, in his death monologue, states that he fought the Goddesses in the time of Creation, that he was one of the great demons who opposed them, and that the triforce will always hold a weakness, either being gateway to those like him, or attracting them to come to it and influence it's power to their own ends.
Link is then returned, but finds that the triforce is now stone. Zelda says that it will be restored in time, but asks if it is worth the danger now that it is known that others like that demon are out there that can cause so much damage with it. She also says that, while people are being restored now in all the realms, not all are making it back and that it will be generations before all the realms are once again how they once where.

@FlameCursed Looks really cool! I noticed that you used sprite csets too. I'm not really fond of those but these days I'm not that bothered with them anymore. Still though, a proper palette could help (like a Holodrum overworld palette or Labrynna or even Koholint)

@Orithan I spy a Super Metroid style minimap. Nice :P

As for myself, I began thinking about this idea kurt91 gave me regarding Mushroom Hill. Since it's based off Sonic & Knuckles, I might actually give making huge mushrooms a shot. Not sure how I'll start, but I'll think of something.

Well you did mention a mini-dungeon. Perhaps this mini-dungeon will reveal some form of peril within Hyrule. If I were Link I would tell either a village elder or Zelda herself. I might suggest going with something simple, but have the storytelling be unconventional. I told you all my ideas in PM. I wish you luck!

Today I started... something...

Ok so, I took kurt91's advice and tried to make some mushrooms of my own from Sonic & Knuckles. Here's a preview of how they look in Mushroom Hill:

Don't mind the top-right corner, that area uses a different palette lol

Here are the mushrooms on their own:

I may actually leave it the way it is, but I could touch them up later down the road.

That looks like a very nice map. It does seem a little bit restricted in certain areas.

Restricted? What do you mean by that?
