EDIT: Added some things to make it more lively, as you suggested.

Wow. That looks great. You should make some awesome screens like those for Solaris.
Please? PLEASE? I beg of you.
In all seriousness, I like that whole screen except for the odd transition between short grass, long grass, and road on the left side.

And why is the mountain layered over the fence in the bottom left? It doesn't really work like that.
I have no problem with the grass transitions whatsoever.

factory!

factory! factory! factory! also those barrels explode
Screens... maps... dmaps... Where do they come from? And where do they go? Such meaningless things... I'll destroy them all!
Edit: That life bar didn't take having its file format changed from bmp to png very well...I assure you it doesn't look that ugly ingame.

At the edge of town Link leaves for adventure! But first he reads a sign.

Anyway, it came out better than I thought! However, the house looks a little strange without windows, and the little doorstep. I think the forest brush could suffice from the little strands of grass like you did with the mountains.
Beautiful job.

Dammit Shane! You kept me in the dark! xD

I'm sorry!
Yeah, there will be a few more windows for variation. But if you look closer there is a window.
Currently I'm reworking stuff here and there, I'll show the updated version later on.
Thanks!
EDIT: Later on? Like a minute perhaps?

The missing Link... get it?
You get the caption joke... right? D:

The red spots represent solid - Link cannot go to the left.

I like it Shane. Flows movement real nice, the shades of green are perfect. It feels so crisp, refreshing, modern..

Old screenies
I think these came out great! The monotone colors make it stand out, as well as the incredible details. Amazing tileset you've got here! The backgrounds are the best part.

Playing around with Marco's tileset...
