Made a change to the Master Sword in AQR. It'll now be referred to as the "Power Sword", reference to Super Adventure Island 2. But unlike where it came from, it WILL be the strongest sword. I recently edited in a new sword beam for it so it looks like a powerful blast of magic instead of a fast flashing sword. And like its source game, it will be purple. Though I might decrease its damage from 8 down to 6 for both sword and beam damage, maybe considering removal of the piercing beam. Essentially, I have one of two ideas;

 

1. Keep the piercing beam and make beams require 100% health

or

2. No piercing beam, but beams can be used with at least 75% health (at least 12 hearts with a maxed life meter)

 

Whether or not I nerf the Power/Master Sword's damage from 8 to 6 is something I have literally no idea whether or not I'll do.

Progress report, this is what I've finished since waking up. Layout's done, now it's just fixing the trees and finishing detailing

Also, the area needs a good music-themed name (It's in the kingdom of Orchestra,after all)

So there won't be a sword that costs 49950 rupees halfway through the game?

It would be possible to get halfway through the game and become a total gamebreaker. That is, IF you're willing to spend months grinding 49,950 Rupees. Oh, and don't forget you have to pay 50 Rupees for a bait, then 5,000 Rupees for a casino membership card, plus be taxed for 75% of your winnings. On top of that, you are only allowed to win up to 2,000 Rupees per day after taxes. Damagewise, the Light Sword would deal 16 damage, enough to one-hit KO almost every single enemy. Furthermore, it would bypass all defense flags on enemies that ignore or block both swords and sword beams. So in theory, you could kill a Mirror Wizzrobe with it (6 hits with base HP). Oh, and the beams would home in on enemies and pierce them. Then ZC will crash due to piercing weapons randomly deciding to crash it.

 

Short answer to sum up the paragraph above: No.

 

Off-topic comment: I never liked that about Super Adventure Island 2 how you could get the Light Sword straight after the 3rd island if you used the casino to your advantage. Makes everything after that waaaaay too easy. After that, you NEVER have to change weapons again, save for using the Shovel in certain places and the Power Sword to get rid of those stones.

 

Speaking of ZC crashes, what exactly makes it crash with piercing weapons and segmented enemies? Because one I shot 4 Red Lanmolas with no problem the moment they spawned shooting to right, yet just a bit ago, I shot 4 segments off a Moldorm and got a crash. Is there a way to fix or prevent said crash or is it there to stay? All I could think of doing is making said enemies ignore piercing weapons, or simply don't make the sword and arrows pierce ever at the expense of making them much weaker. For the record, I had like a 100 segment Moldorm crash my game using a Super Bomb. Is it just safe to say to just stick with things like the candle and regular sword hits for said enemies?

To be honest, that was something I made a while back when the launcher was 2.5.4 in one of the worst RCs of 2.50. I remember it being very bug-ridden, having a lot of glitchy weapon types such as Fire Trail 2 (unimplemented), Ice (unimplemented), and more. I don't do things like a 100 segment Moldorm/Lanmola anymore; that was back when I just screwed around with an older version of 2.5 and didn't even understand how to get anything to work. I couldn't make my own enemies or anything; I just overwrote existing ones.

Created a minimap by shrinking down the exported map then re-importing it, then I had to recolor it from scratch, though, so it doesn't look as good. Anyone know a better (or just easier) way to do this? (original, shrunk down map on the right)

How about Crescendo Cliffs?  Got the idea from the gradually growing heights, and it has that cool alliteration like DKC games have.

As for what I did today.... Here is my whole forest area as it stands right now, though as you see there's alot left to be done, as well as it will  be going into where my mountains currently are (it will be the first change when I revamp the mountain area)

Scripted weapon #2 is done, for the most part anyway. Needs a little more polish and then its golden.

Back to fixing up screens. Added a step on button around level 3 so you can easily get back to that area. Also threw a nice little secret on an otherwise useless screen in the original. Those that observant will find it and get something pretty nice for their troubles (in particular, a well-hidden Heart Container). See if you can see anything suspicious in the picture below. In other news, all I can say is...

 

HOLY CRAP! I made a hole that actually looks decent! (NOTE: It was only placed there for the sake of the screenshot. I'm using it in place of Koten's staircases because in Koten, they look HORRIBLE on the overworld)

@Adam Those hole sprites looks perfect for the tileset. Great job!

 

I've began working on the 4th area of AR3, Mushroom Hill. Before I get into designing the area however, I'll be making the "Symmetry Ruins/Village" area just before it.
