Well I just beat the first Day in the Limelight, which makes it my first Megaman fan game. ... I don't know what to say. There's a lot of pretty awesome ideas in the game that are legitimately really cool, but then sometimes they're executed somewhat... questionably, and then the stage design for a couple levels is just downright bad. I mean, I expected this to just be the Megaman 2 levels with the robot masters from the first game, albeit with some obvious edits where Items 1, 2, and 3 were used, not completely new levels. The remakes of Metal Man's and Crash Man's stages? Terrible. I mean well maybe not terrible in Crash Man's case, it was more the fact that Guts Man was severely ill-suited for the stage, but trying to survive the stage with him was a mess, and Metal Man's stage was just very poorly put-together, which is a shame because I was looking forward to playing as Elec Man. Oh, I failed to mention, this game doesn't let you choose which stage to play as with which robot master, no, you just pick the robot master and it dumps you in a predetermined stage. Also a disappointment.

Also Air Man's stage got on my nerves after a while too.

It was a quick decision to go with infinite lives, or I'd probably have been even more frustrated with this game. Again, there's a lot of really cool ideas and levels in here, but the execution in parts is quite annoying. In the end I guess I did enjoy it, but not as much as I thought I would. I will say, that was one hell of a great final boss though, even if the last phase got me too often. Hopefully 2 is a nice improvement over the first.

Luckily, Day in the Limelight 2 fixes the main problems with the formula. While yes, you're still dumped with a specific Robot Master for each stage, you get to use that Robot Master in the other stages once you beat it, so you're off to a typical, "Use the power that's the next boss's weakness" formula again that the series is known for. I honestly think Limelight 2 feels like a legitimate Mega Man game, albeit with a more disappointing ending than a typical Mega Man game. Luckily, it more than makes up for it in replay-ability.

Speaking of fan games, has anyone tried the Hard Hat series by Damaged Games? They play similar to the classic Mega Man games, but you play as a PO'ed Met named Hard Hat. I had a lot of fun playing them in the past...

They were great fun (the hard hate games) even if the play control was a bit wonky at times which led to quite a few deaths. Sometimes, getting that 'perfect' MM play control is quite tough to do in fan games apparently.

Yeah. I remember when Damaged was working on the fourth game of the series, but then he (understandably) went to the Army and put production on hold for a few years. Eventually it was released, and GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN, it is much harder compared to the other three games.

So you know that robot Master from EddyTheOliveira's latest quest. Darknut Man?

Well, I edited Knight Man's sprite, and surely enough:

If I knew how to make a Mega Man fangame, I would. lol

After that 6 race, I have successfully completed my conquest of the 8-bit Megaman series, no save states. And 6 is solidified at that #3 spot. Design-wise, I think it's better than 3, I just like 3 a little more. However, 6 is still really, really good. Great music, tons of originality and unique ideas, and so much pure fun. It's a breath of fresh air and I am quick to consider it one of the best, very inconsequential and insignificant flaws aside.

Also finished Day in the Limelight 2. Much better than the first, by a mile, wow. I mean it still had its annoying moments, but overall it was designed so much better than the first. Tons of fun was had, the robot masters were all fun to play as, it had several fun ideas, I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the third one, if it ever gets released. Hopefully this one will be even more polished; the first had a ton of obvious moments where it wasn't quite up to snuff with the official series' engine, and the second did much better but it still could use a polish. Hopefully 3 delivers that, and if not... well it's not a big deal, I mean we can play as Magnet Man, what more is there to want? :tard:

That looks so freaking cool XD

If only I could make a Mega Man fangame myself, I would make Mega Man: Link Edition II on there instead of ZC...

The Stage Select portrait needs some work (I'm not complaining though), but other than that, nice.
Sure beats Knight Man having a spiked flail as opposed to a sword. ;)

But Knight Man isn't green; he's blue. :P

From what I've played of Limelight 3's demo, it seems to be that each Robot Master you play as is even more unique due to the fact that each of them all have at least 1 second ability now, making them far more versatile than in Limelight 1. A good example is that Snake Man can climb walls, and Hard Man has a ground pound.

Also, Hard Man doesn't flinch when he gets hurt. HE'S A GAMEBREAKER, I TELL YE.

That said, it's Mega Man 4, pretty much. I'm not as big a fan of the stage design here as I was in Limelight 2. Then again, this is a demo.

So after the Megaman 6 race, I went and played Megaman 4 last night, without save states because why not. In the past, I may have said some things like "4 isn't as good as 1 or 3". I now realize I'm a dirty liar. The atmosphere of the game itself is pretty great (especially the Cossack stages). The lack of respawn points before fortress bosses is annoying, there's some questionable stage design in places, and Bright Man is possibly the worst robot master in the series (seriously, who thought a boss with mandatory damage was a good idea?), but overall, it's a pretty fun game, ranking just behind 5 and 6.

So I've been pondering the idea of making a sequel to Eddy's Mega Man quest (With his okay, of course.).

Instead, however, if I get around to it, I decided I want to make it an actual Mega Man fangame instead of a ZC quest, with the following robot masters (With their weakness order.):

Redead Man --> Zora Man --> Peahat Man --> Leever Man --> Hinox Man --> Dodongo Man --> Stalfos Man (Possibly to be replaced by Lynel Man.) --> Gohma Woman

Thoughts?

I approve of the idea. Also, that's a pretty neat list of robot masters. You should totally have an Aquamentus Man *trollface*

But seriously, I'm curious to see where this will go.
