The False Princess - Hyrule

Interesting. In its own class its pretty decent, however you'll need to add some spice to the original set (even just minor alter/improvements) in order to make everything mesh together better.

I like the central area its pretty cool and cozy but compared to some of the more open areas and, again the graphics... but still, for its own it works =)

I plan on actually just doing whatever I want. Quests actually get made that way when I do that, it seems.

Don't take this the wrong way, it's just that thinking like that is what might have killed questmaking for me, and it would not be a good idea to push it.

This map is currently under construction, but this closely sums up the mountain region of a classic build quest I was working on.

Why do the waterfalls, stairs, and a few other objects lack shading? Also wouldn't the black mountains up top be exposed to light thus making it illogical to have them really really dark?

Otherwise, I like it. A generic nes overworld with a twist.

Nobody said it was perfect.

Thanks to everybody for the compliments, these screens has made much more of an impact than all my previous work, and makes me feel I should pursue this direction, not only with my own quests, but also other authors quests (granted, if I can buy the time).

You should think about adding some shadowing to your dungeon maps too, NJF. ;)

Damn! Classic style mountains with shadows! No, I don't think it's the normal classic ones... did you make these from scratch or are they edits of the classic mountains? Either way, it looks awesome :).

I wonder if I could make shadows for the normal classic mountains, hm...

I have thought about it, but it's not a priority at this time. I would rather focus dungeons around gameplay. These screens often take 20 to 30 minutes per screen, so I want to focus primarily on designing the overworld this way. Besides, I believe adding this form of detail to dungeons would create a fake unnatural feel. I dunno.

I'll post share a video on how I create mountains this way if you want.

I know, nothing wrong with giving out criticism because of the fact. :)

I really hope that you do that shadow-detail direction video. It looks amazing with the Classic tileset, and I would love to experiment with my own tileset that I'm working on and see if it would work with that.
