Wait, seven? So you're switching between different ones? I always have exactly six on a team, so I don't have to switch. My team:

Typhlosian
Togetic
Ampharos
Lapras
Scizor
Sandslash

I like switching out. Sure, eventually six get used at the Elite Four, but I like having a few others to spice things up with occasionally.

Lemon: Houndoom? Can you get it before going to Kanto now? If that's the case, then hells yes. Houndoom gets great type coverage in the Johto Elite Four (technically Kanto, but whatev).

EDIT: Houndour is able to be captured in the Johto Safari Zone (located after some new routes west of Cianwood), but only after the National Dex is obtained. Major bummer, as after that point I'll probably trade over my Diamond team to continue training and thus not get to use it.

My team ends up being five with an HM slave at the end of the Elite Four in most games. I don't like adding a lot of Pokemon too early, since it takes longer to grind which is usually necessary since the movepool is so low near the beginning of the game. Not sure what I'm gonna end up grabbing this time; I'm positive that my starter will be Chikorita, though. I'm not big on fire-types and as far as water goes, Feraligatr is a cheap knock-off of Gyarados. Besides, only a true master picks the starter that doesn't get a single type advantage in any of the gym battles. icon_razz.gif

I've heard that you can also choose a Kanto and Hoenn starter in these games, so I'll also get a Swampert for my competitive team pool. icon_biggrin.gif Unfortunately not very many starters are competitive; the only ones that I can think of are Swampert, Empoleon, and Infernape.

Ya, once you beat all sixteen gyms, Oak will give you a Kanto starter, and Steven Stone will give you a Hoenn starter. My friends and I are all getting different ones, then having the lay eggs and swap them so we end up with all the starters. I think I'm getting a Treeko and a Squirtle so I have a starter from each of the three types.

Interestingly enough, I already have all the starters on Platinum. icon_razz.gif Oh, well. I'll probably snatch a Bulbasaur and Torchic to go with Totodile. We'll see. As for my team goes, I plan to include a Politoad in there somewhere, as it's my all-time favorite Pokemon. As for the rest, I think I'll just play it by ear. It's more interesting that way. icon_wink.gif

I'm going to trade over eggs for all the guys I can't get right away. I've already played Gold/Silver/Crystal probably 5+ times, so I'm trying to play it with a team of guys I've never used before. Am in the process of producing some eggs of these guys tonight, actually.

Only 5? Man, my Diamond game gave me like, 15 at the end. 4 of which were powerhouses, but the other 11 weren't too far behind. I mean, the games pretty much over with after the Elite Four in most of these games (not counting G/S/C of course).

I already have ideas for my Party when I get Heart Gold.

I know I'm gonna choose Chikorita because Meganium is a tank and has a better moveset than Typhlosion and Feraligatr. (Typhlosion has all Fire Moves and Feraligatr has terrible Special Attack for moves like Surf). I would definitely have an Arcanine as a fire type. I would probably have an Espeon as a psyshic type. I've been thinking if I should trade over a Dratini from Platnium to have a Dragonite as a flying type. Then I need a good water pokemon (I'm not using the Red Gyrados). After beating the game, I sill have one more slot. I'm probably gonna save it for Snorlax.

Umbreon

I can't wait. I'm going to take all the time in the world with Heartgold and re-experience my childhood icon_razz.gif

I hope you know that you can only get Vulpix in SS if you don't plan to trade.

(Typhlosion has all Fire Moves ... )
I'm not sure if they'll change it in HG/SS or not (I hope not), but Typhlosion can actually learn Thunderpunch via TM. It's what I used in the Elite Four since I didn't have an electric type. icon_razz.gif

Chickorita (Not evolving her)

I did that in FireRed; I got Charmander and went through the whole game without evolving him. However, be aware that not evolving a Pokemon keeps it's stats lower. In this case, Chickorita's stats will be around 1/3 (I believe) of what it's stats would be if you evolved it into Meganium. And the fact that Chikorita has no type advantages in the gyms...May God have mercy on your soul...lol

According to that link he can learn it through move tutor dawg.

I feel obliged to play Cynadquil, because I still want to use the name SqueakyHeat.

It's just too adorable and cute for me to evolve it. Reminds me of my min pin icon_razz.gif
I know that Chickorita doesn't have advantages in the first gym, that's why there are other Pokemons i can catch that does. I can beat the first gym with a mareep or a geodude, i can beat the second gym with my pidgey. Also, i can raise it's stats by giving her lots of HP UP and proteins and all that good stuff icon_xd.gif
