I've been meaning to try Day in the Limelight. Hopefully soon I shall.
Well after the Megaman 5 race with Russ, which is also a continuation of my efforts to beat the 8-bit Megaman games without save states (that just leaves 6 now), I've decided I hate 5 a little less. Shocking, I know. There's still a ton of issues I have with it, some bad enemies or enemy placement, some bland design and general lack of originality, forgettable music (minus Stone Man, both fortress themes, and the credits), and... Wave Man's stage. But eh, it's more decent than I realized. I don't know how I suddenly came to this conclusion, and, well, it's interesting how playing these games through legitimately changes my perspective on them a little.
With 1, well, I liked it a little better than before somehow. Then again, I was still using the select glitch on Yellow Devil and one of the rematches cuz I was lazy... However, I dunno, maybe I appreciated the tough-but-mostly-fair difficulty and the fact that it brought this wonderful series to life, and I didn't find too many flaws in it, other than the known ones.
2, as mentioned before, I somehow came to like even less... the same issues I had from before still linger, and then I discovered the new one with the inability to defeat Wily in one set of lives if you manage to screw up.
3 showed a couple more chinks, though not too many, but I still have too much love for it. The gameplay issues I find to be pretty minor, with exceptions I just look past. Because it's still a heck of a fun game, with great stage design, bosses, music, etc. But that's just me.
4 I ended up liking a little more, as I usually tend to when I play 4. The gameplay gimmicks are fresh and fun, and the music isn't half-bad. Not up to par with 1-3 or 6, but still not bad. There wasn't much to dislike about it, though I can understand the problems some had with the Wily Capsule.
5 is the weird one. I can see how you can like a game fine with using save states and then less after playing it without save states, but how do you go from not liking it while using save states then liking it a little more when not using them? I just... can't process it. I mean it's not like I like it a ton more, but I dislike it less. Maybe it's just from being more used to Megaman games and not having as much trouble with them as before? I mean design issues still exist as I mentioned above but... I still don't get it, lol.
So my favorites list is a little revised now, and goes like this:
10>3>6>4>9>1>7>5>Bass>2>8
Let's see how the trend continues when I make it to 6.
