Yeah, it's a coincidence. It looks nothing like a "dark triforce", much more like a simple stylization in the same vein they used for all of the WW stained glass.

With both WWHD and ALBW in development, I wouldn't be too surprised if this were an easter egg. ![]()
Also, regarding the argument to my theory, who's to say OoX and LA's Link is ALBW's Link? The new artwork to me look like it was intent to make it look like OoX's Link.
OoX's Link artworks make him look childish, yet in aLttP's artwork makes him look like he has matured? Overlook? Maybe the new artwork was considered to patch it up.

In OoX, Onox and Veran mentioned they came from the "Dark Realm" what are the chances of them being in A Link Between Worlds' since this game takes place before then? I know this might be too out there, but It'd be cool.
That's what I was referring to. Nintendo has been very clear that OoX takes place immediately following ALttP, staring the same Link, and that LA happens after that. So, if all of that stars the same Link (which it does, according to Nintendo), then ALBW HAS to be a couple centuries after the events in OoX, and thus star a different Link. Besides, the "dark realm" they mentioned was very likely ALttP's Dark World.
EDIT: And of course, it goes without saying that since Veran and Onox were destroyed in OoX, they CAN'T be in this one.

Yeah, it's not the same Link as in the Oracles and LA. Historia confirmed that he never made it back to Hyrule, although one of his descendants eventually came back, becoming the Link in the first two games. So LBW's Link is neither LA's, nor is he related by blood to him.
I wonder, is this "Historia" something official, by Nintendo? Looks like a fanfic to me.

Nope, "Hyrule Historia" (Holy shit, "Hyrule" is in my spell-checker) is a book published by Dark Horse, and officially licensed by Nintendo, released for the Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary, It includes concept art, a forward by Shigeru Miyamoto, the official Nintendo timeline, as well as a prequel comic to Skyward Sword, detailing the original creation of the Master Sword (Filling in some major plot holes between OoT, ALttP and SS), the original battle between Demise and the first Hylians, how and why Hylia was reincarnated as Zelda and how Link's reincarnation cycle was started. The comic, itself, is arguably non-canon (considering all of the other comics by said author are not considered canon, though are based on the various games in the series, and one or two small details that contradict elements in Skyward Sword), but the rest of the stuff comes directly from Nintendo, themselves.

Regarding Link's identity: Let's also not forget that it was confirmed this game takes place a couple hundred years after ALttP, and it's already confirmed that the Link in ALttP, Oracles, and Link's Awakening is the same one. The art similarity is more just a stylistic reference, really; I mean, TP and SS Link look fairly similar, after all.

I still stand by my theory, and if Nintendo made a third timeline split anything is possible with the timeline so I wouldn't take exact word from Nintendo when it comes to the Timeline. They even said TP takes place a few centuries before WW at one point in a live E3 interview.

Also TP and SS are unrelated - but if you look at aLttP's artwork of Link and than OoX's, it looks like he went younger. And with Nintendo changing ALBW's Link artwork I believe they are patching this up.
LttP -> (old Link dies and new Link is born) -> ALBW -> OoX -> LA
If not, oh well - still a good theory.

That's really funny because I have that same book and it did *not* say he never returned. Just that it's not known what became of him. Fact-check?

I'm copying this word for word from the copy of Hyrule Historia that I own (Page 103)
KOHOLINT ISLAND VANISHES
Link successfully gathered the Instruments of the Sirens. Standing before the egg in which the Wind Fish slept, the Hero was forced to make a bitter decision.
The only traces of Koholint Island's existence now remained in Link's memories, and the awakened Wind Fish flew off into the sky.
Though Link the Hero had once rescued Hyrule, it came to pass that he was also responsible for the annihilation of the dream world. He set sail on another voyage, and his further whereabouts are unknown.

Well, ALBW's official release date is November 22nd in North America. (11/22!) It's a Friday too! I hope NoA sticks with the Friday releases.
On another note, the new 3DS Mario Party releases the same day. Oh, and Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze as well! (All for NA)

Excellent. Now I get to wait nearly all of November and keep biting my fingernails until it's out.

hahaha I beat TS to the punch on this one
Anyway, the box art is gorgeous, though I do sort of think that the Master Sword seems...sort of insignificant to the game so far? I mean, it seems to be more focused on the whole Light World and Dark World setting, and the ability to turn into a drawing.
